I love Heart's vocals! I'm not familiar enough with them to distinguish between the two, but when There's the Girl came on during my random ipod shuffle yesterday I was delighted once again by the clarity and strength of the vocals.

Nelly Furtado. She gets a great deal of flack for being nasally but she has some great vocal moments and a unique voice.

Jessica Simpson. I think she has a good voice unlike her annoying sister...

I recently got the Donna Summer boxset and I've been diving through her discography more than I ever have. And damn, that woman could sing her ass off. She really should be mentioned alongside the greats. The power, control, clarity and versatility of her voice is criminally underrated.

Agree about Donna. You hardly ever hear people mentioning her alongside Aretha Franklin or Barbra Streisand (listing her contemporaries).
Another one I would choose is Gladys Knight. That woman's voice is so evocative, so gut-wrenching AND she has the range and power to back the emotion up. Lenny Kravitz said it best:
"I don’t want to say she was underrated because it’s not like she’s not thought of, because she completely is. But I think she’s underrated in terms of how people might rate her in the history of vocalists. She has the most incredible, sultry, velvety and soulful voice and still does."

Do not get me started on Gladys. One of the most undersung soul singers of all time IMO. That tone, along with the earthiness and grit of her voice. She's one of those once in a lifetime kind of voices for me. And what really amazes me about her, is that she's been singing for over 60 years and her voice has held up so well. And let's be honest, most of her contemporaries can't claim the same.

Her voice was still in nearly perfect form when she passed away. Her voice did change as it definitely can as one ages and stuff, but the power and range of it was still there. She took such great care of her voice. When I see how some singers far younger than her experiencing deterioration to their vocal abilities so early, I just wonder what they are doing because so many who are older than them still sound great.

I was listening to the VH1 Live album today from 1999 and her voice was soooo well preserved. To sound that great over 30 years into a singing career really is a feat. Her control was just insane.
