All's well that ends well, but I feel really bad for Kelly getting beaten up by the press because somebody decided to make her, as she put it, a "political pawn."
At the Express it was pointed out that that anti-Kelly website says it was paid for by the ""Virginia Tobacco Settlement Foundation" - your government at work, folks.
This was a failure of oversight of the promoter by Narvel and his people. I wonder, besides Kelly, how many international tours his shop has overseen - it may just not have occurred to him that there could be politically problematic sponsors.
I read all this stuff yesterday, then I stopped at the liquor store last night, and what was on the front door? A big poster of the Black Eyed Peas, announcing that their U.S. tour is sponsored by Bacardi. will.i.am was quoted in the current issue of Rolling Stone saying that his job is to figure out what music appeals to 14 year old girls. Better sell them some rum while you're at it.

This was all so outrageously overblown and unfair to Kelly. Glad it appears to be over, but there is no way this one didn't sting personally.

Ouch at the Newcastle turnout. I'm guessing there will be fewer dates next time she tours Australia.

Cute pics and great ending to the foolish nonsense of the Indonesia "controversy". It actually makes me feel much better about her safety with all the crazies in the world. She turns 28 on April 28th. Here is a better view of the cake: 'If I Can't Have You/Can't Get You Out Of My Head' mashup from Melbourne a few nights ago:

Is it true that 15,000 people are expected for the Jakarta concert?? (btw isn't kelly's birthday on april 24th?) This weekend's Malaysian concert has sold really well, expecting 15,000+ attendees (see the Malaysian article that I posted on page 4 or click here: thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2010/4/22/nation/6103483&sec=nation). I am not sure about the Jakarta, Indonesia concert, which is at Tennis Indoor Senayan. Yes, her 28th b-day with be April 24th.

Kelly Clarkson Perth concert review•Raquel de Brito •From: PerthNow •April 23, 2010 12:23PM THERE were no costume changes, sequins, choreographed dances, or even shoes, but when Kelly Clarkson hit the stage at Challenge Stadium last night, her adoring fans didn't seem to mind. Unlike the plethora of megastars to grace our shores in recent months, Kelly Clarkson came minus the fuss and fanfare. But what she lacked in props she made up for with her incredible vocals and boundless energy. Dressed in a simple black dress and tights, and what appeared to be no shoes, the voluptuous star kicked off the night with a song from her fourth album, All I Ever Wanted. Although it was Clarkson's final leg of the Australian tour, her liveliness was contagious and it wasn't long before the predominantly tween crowd were bopping and singing along to her music. The crowd went wild when she belted out her first major hit, Miss Independent - a song that helped shake off her American Idol tag and be recognised as an artist in her own right. Although it was a seated event, most the fans were off their seats, dancing along to their favourite hits. Clarkson hit all the right notes and treated her throng of admirers to her eclectic taste in music by performing covers from various genres. These included a snippet of Kylie Monogue's Can't Get You Out Of My Head, and a medley of King of Leon's Use Somebody and Alannis Morrisette's I Would Be Good. She also covered Keith Urban's Tonight I Want To Cry. She never forgot the crowd, many of which were out on a school night, and continuously interacted throughout the show. Perhaps an attribute to her ongoing success, Clarkson was incredibly grounded and humble. ``Are y'all having a good time,'' she asked with her southern drawl. When the crowd responded with screams that reverberated through the stadium, she shyly replied, ``thank you, just checking''. She was also a refreshing role model to her young followers, declaring she ``liked a big butt'' when discussing the industry pressure she faced on a daily basis. Highlights included the performance of one of her biggest hits, Breakaway. She handed it over to the crowd to sing the chorus, which they did with gusto. Admitting her penchant for ``depressing music'', she lightened things up with her ``happy song'', I Want You. The catchy pop song was a hit with fans, especially when Clarkson divided the stadium and pitted them against each other to sing the chorus. She slowed the pace with a few ballads, and was keen to please the crowd by playing all of their favourites. There were a few early departures, but that was probably more to do with the time than her performance. One family left soon after their child fell asleep, but it was approaching 11pm by this stage. She played for just over 1.5 hours, and her young fans were still screaming for more when she returned to the stage for her encore, finishing the night off with recent hit, My Life Would Suck Without You. www.perthnow.com.au/entertainment/kelly-clarkson-perth-concert-review/story-e6frg3ic-1225857485214

Celebrate Kelly Clarkson’s 28th Birthday With Two Classic PerformancesIt’s hard to believe that eight years ago, when Kelly Clarkson turned 20 in April 2002, American Idol’s first season had yet to air. Nevertheless, she would go on to become the very first winner of the brand new reality singing competition less than five months later. Jumping ahead, it’s time to wish Kelly a Happy 28th (her birthday is Saturday, April 24)! In the years since she’s been gone from AI, Clarkson has released four albums, landed two #1 singles, won two Grammys, four American Music Awards and 12 Billboard Music Awards, and she’s appeared on such series as Saturday Night Live, Reba, MADtv and American Dreams. (We’ll kindly leave out any mention of From Justin To Kelly—oh, oops!) After the jump, two of our favorite Kelly Clarkson performances of all time—including one she’d probably rather forget ever happened. Kelly performing “Up To The Mountain” with Jeff Beck on Idol Gives Back in 2007. A completely wasted Kelly (with Yellowcard’s Ryan Key) at Metal Skool on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles (warning: NSFW language) back in 2006. A true classic. idolator.com/5486221/celebrate-kelly-clarksons-28th-birthday-with-two-classic-performances kelly_clarkson: twitpic.com/1hrps0 No one told me there was a Coffee Bean here?! I love you Malaysia!!! kelly_clarkson: Police escorting us from airport-hotel, brings 2 questions to mind. Who do they think is n the car? How upset will they be when I get out?! kelly_clarkson: twitpic.com/1hs1ie Flowers and wine waiting in my hotel room ....it's like the hotel is my stand-in boyfriend haha! :)

Thanks for posting that, Berry. I have actually been watching that UTTM performance a few times the last few days with all the Idol Gives Back talk. It's a truly stunning performance. There's so much going for it, too--beautiful song selection, Jeff Beck on guitar, an orchestra. And then, there's her voice, which was just about as emotional, tender and soulful as she gets. I'm glad this performance still gets some mentions, and I hope it continues to do so because it deserves to be a stand-out.
On the other hand, I love the Metal Skool video haha.

Music Review: Kelly ClarksonARA JANSEN, The West Australian April 23, 2010, 2:01 pm Kelly Clarkson, Eric Hutchinson & Cassie Davis Challenge Stadium April 22 One of the attractive things about American pop singer Kelly Clarkson on stage is that she likes to have a chat. Yes, it means she can run off at the mouth a little but it's endearing and she comes across as natural and real. She's even happy to poke fun at herself, making mention of the media roasting about her weight. In a definitely more G-rated night than Lady Gaga's recent Perth escapades, up first was Cassie Davis, the local girl returned home. She's got some great moves on stage and Like It Loud, her first single, was still the one that drew the best crowd response. If Beck had a not-so-out-there brother, American singer-songwriter Eric Hutchinson would be it. His often-staccato pop songs infused with soul are catchy. Pulling songs from his fun and witty Sounds Like This album, Hutchinson knows how to genuinely work a room and shift between guitar and piano. Rock & Roll, made known here on Packed to the Rafters, was an instant hit with the crowd, but You Don't Have to Believe Me, All Over Now and Food Chain and Oh! were just as joyful and soulful. No question though, the crowd were there to see Clarkson and she put on a world-class arena show. Dressed in black leggings and a cinched top, she looked great, dancing barefoot and constantly twirling around, almost like a princess who just can't believe her luck. She bounced and danced around on a simple stage brought to life by an amazing light dance. The band were on fire and like the perky little Texan, swapped from heart-tugging ballads to all out rockers without a hiccup. While the audience - mainly tweens, their mums and a few dads - went spare at the hits like Miss Independent and the uplifting chick anthem Breakaway, it was the stripped-back moments that were simply stunning. During Behind Hazel Eyes and Low, the singer didn't compete with the volume, which meant the beauty and clarity of her notes rang forth rather than just being belted out. Clarkson admitted she couldn't record the other kinds of music she loves and so indulged that love by swapping genres on stage. "I'm just a big fan of music…so instead of telling you what I love, I can just perform it," she said before opting for Alanis Morissette's That I Would Be Good, an eerie and bluesy Lies, by the Black Keys, and an achingly sweet ballad, Keith Urban's Tonight I Wanna Cry, her treatment turning it into Wind Beneath My Wings. The singer-songwriter's new album, All I Ever Wanted, got a good working over with I Do Not Hook Up, Impossible and a disco-electro If I Can't Have You, which included a sexy interlude of Kylie's Can't Get You Out of my Head. They were followed hotly by the equally high-energy Never Again and later her "happy song" I Want You. It would surprise many to know that Clarkson has plenty more in her than belting out Top 40 pop hits. She's got a voice and an attitude which stretch equally well into rock, country and the blues. The audience got a satisfying taste of her many facets. Let's hope she's going to be gutsy enough to explore them more on record. au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/entertainment/a/-/entertainment/7102695/music-review-kelly-clarkson/
