After giving their album a listen, I believe they should definitely go for pop success, not country. Their album has a very pop/rock feel, with very little country.
This single in particular, is it actually being sent to country radio? Or AC/HAC/Pop? It's a great song, but it definitely belongs more on Pop stations rather than country, even with the pop-flavored country that exists on country radio today.

I've never got the impression that they were looking to be a Country act.

Bold statement: this song has no place on country radio. True. But then someone like, say, Taylor Swift has songs that don't sound Country at all and she still gets radio support (But then again, she's been established as a 'Country' artist, so it doesn't really matter what her songs like, she'll get support regardless.) Anyways, back to SoS. They originally started as a Country band, so maybe that will help them on Country radio. Plus, being endorsed by Carrie Underwood can't harm them ;)

Considering they performed on Idol, they should get HAC, AC and a few pop stations to pick this song up. Mainly AC and HAC.

i am listening the song again.well i gotta say my opinion is that this song isnt sounding like a traditional country song.however for me the instrument beat and a bitsy of the singer voice makes this a country sound.like most of you guys said, the pop and the rock sound is there too.this is like a country pop rock song with some europe sound in it.
come on guys,we are in 2010,if this is a new sound,i am happy to embrace it.i wanna hear some new sound created.good music.
maybe i am wrong here because i know less about country but i do like this kind of sound and music.they do can really sing.i want to see them successful.

I appreciate your openness for music. And I do find the song a decent listen, but I'm going to have to agree with most others here: hardly country at all. If Taylor, Carrie, Lady A, and Sugarland are accused of being "genre-benders", than I don't know what you would call this. What would be the point of having genres? I'm perfectly fine with people loving all kinds of music, but each genre has its own deep heritage, and, while the times are changing, this song belongs much more on an AC format than in a country format (again, I personally don't think it is country in the slightest). But of course, we all have different opinions...

There is no point in having genres. That was the point to my post.

There is no point in having genres. That was the point to my post. I'll have to disagree. Whether or not the song actually sounds country, pop, rock, whatever genre it's in, genres make music so much easier to find. I highly doubt that if there weren't any genres and all music was just jumbled up into one bunch, masterpieces like "The House That Built Me" and acts like Chris Young would be nearly as appreciated or noticed. So genres are beneficial to not only the industry but the listener.

Whether or not the song actually sounds country, pop, rock, whatever genre it's in, genres make music so much easier to find. I think in the future, country will be split up into many genres -- similar to what rock has done. (pop-country, classic-country, alternative-country, etc...)

While this song, band and album are not country at all, I gotta say I love love love the album. It's like a mix of OneRepublic, U2 and Keane. The album is great.

I think it is early to say that the song has flopped (especially looking at the AC chart) I think it is continues to gain spins (even it it is slow) the song should do fine. I think it is an amazing single and I hope it does well
