Interesting- she used to be a great writer but then she dried up for some reason- she blamed it on the anti-depressants she was taking at one point.

At 62, her writing is probably not the only thing that's dried up. ;)
There was a Fleetwood Mac album in 2003, "Say You Will". She had 9 songs on it.
These older acts make more money from touring, so she hasn't exactly been sitting on her ass, she's just been away from a recording studio for a while.

Tom Petty just came back with a #2 album, so I think she can easily have a top 10 debut. We also saw how well Sade and Maxwell did. Artists with strong fanbases are almost assured a healthy debut.
Her most recent Billboard debuts (studio albums):
Stevie's album "Trouble in Shangri-La" debuted at #5 in 2001. The #1 album that week was Destiny's Child with "Survivor".
Fleetwood Mac's album "Say You Will" was a #3 debut in 2003. Kelly Clarkson was #1 that week with "Thankful".

Let me clarify. Tom is a veteran rocker like Stevie. They still have an audience that comes to shows and supports (new) albums.

www.independent.com/news/2010/jul/26/stevie-nicks-looking-back-charging-forward-new-alb/Part of new article on Stevie's upcoming album/concerts: After these shows, what comes next? Can you tell me anything about the album?I think it will go down in history as my greatest work. I have written nine songs with [The Eurythmics’] Dave [Stewart], and I feel like I’m part of a writing team—like Lennon and McCartney or something. I have always been so closed to the idea of writing with anybody, and my eyes have been so opened now. Stylistically, how would you describe the stuff you’ve done so far? It’s very diverse. There’s really, really rock ’n’ roll things, then there’s a song called “Italian Summer” that’s just a beautiful, beautiful love song I wrote when I was in Italy last year. It wasn’t even about anybody. It’s just the feeling you get when you go to Italy is just so romantic, so I wrote this song about this country that I just so fell in love with. Then there are the suffering Stevie songs. [Laughs.] How did you and Dave team up?I had met Dave a long time ago, and a couple years ago, he did a pilot for an interview show with Jimmy Iovine. So he kind of interviewed me, then we went to the piano. We sat down and I played “Rhiannon,” and he got his guitar out—because he’s never without it—and he sat down next to me and started playing along, and we did like a 15-minute rendition of “Rhiannon,” and it was so spectacular that I said to myself, “Okay, the next time I do a record, I’m going to ask Dave Stewart to produce it.” He’s very similar in a lot of ways to Lindsey [Buckingham] in the way he plays. He’s like a peer of Lindsey’s; he’s one of those great guitarists. … The girl always gets all the attention—Annie Lennox got all the attention—but the fact is, after spending four months writing with him, I know how important Dave was to all those Eurythmics records. They wrote those songs together, and that’s why they were so fantastic.

Apparently Mick Fleetwood's involved also.
Curious to hear how this is going to turn out. I always find Stevie's solo stuff to lack a little compared to her contributions with Fleetwood Mac and I think that's because I really enjoy her work produced by Lindsey Buckingham ("Everybody Finds Out" on Say You Will is one of her strongest tracks post-Tusk).

More info on the new album from Stevie: (14 songs)
"Anyway, it has nine Dave-and-Stevie songs and five Stevie songs. So we have the suffering Stevie songs, I call them, and the amazing songs that Dave and I wrote. I have to say, I feel like Rodgers and Hammerstein or Lennon and McCartney. I'm starting to understand, after this four months of having so much fun and working with such an amazing person, He can play that guitar like you wouldn't believe. He's very much a peer of Lindsey and Eric Clapton and all the other great guitarists of the world. He is also incredibly amazing as an arranger and as somebody who can just bring the best out of you".
"I think the world is going to be very surprised and very pleased. It's really fun to have a partner to do this with. It's really much more fun than sitting at the piano by yourself, crying. It beats it to hell, to be able to do something that is this much fun and be working with somebody who wants you to be your creative, miserable self, but still wants you to come up out of that also".

Stevie will be on "Ellen" tomorrow, 1/13. Rod Stewart is also on.
I hope she talks about the new album, they are each performing a classic hit.
New tweets from David Wild from Rolling Stone magazine.

WILD SONG OF THE NIGHT: "In Your Dreams" by Stevie Nicks. Reminds me of her pal Tom Petty -- think "Full Moon Stevie."

Don't mean to frustrate any Stevie fans. I'd describe the album as deeply romantic, cinematic, personal, poetic and dreamy.

Listening to Stevie's new album right now. Congrats to her and @davestewart. "For What It's Worth" I think it's her best solo album .

ROD STEWART and STEVIE NICKS announced on The Ellen DeGeneres Show airing today, Thursday, January 13, (check local listings) that they have joined forces for one of the most anticipated musical events of the year, THE HEART & SOUL TOUR. Launching March 20, 2011 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the tour will unite two of music’s most legendary forces for a series of arena concerts throughout North America - with performances already confirmed in New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Tampa, Montreal and more. Fans can tune-in to the show on Thursday, January 13 and log-on to watch their exclusive interview and performances. The tour will feature both artists performing all rock & roll sets from their incomparable catalogs of hits and backed by an incredible band of musicians and stage production. Tickets go on sale beginning Friday, January 21, visit rodstewartfanclub.com for details.
Said Rod Stewart: “We haven’t yet begun rehearsals but I can already tell you this, with Stevie on board our audiences are in store for an evening of pure rock & roll music. I’m already thinking about which of my old favourites to bring back and vocally, I think we’ve both begun thinking about which songs might be great fun and well-suited for a duet or two.”
In a career spanning five decades, with an estimated 250 million album and single sales, Rod Stewart is a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and indisputably one of the most successful performers of all time. He finished 2010 at the top of both the touring and album charts - highlighted by his critically-heralded, sold-out first run of concerts at The Colosseum in Las Vegas, a “Boxscore,” chart-topping, 33-date European summer tour which included 4 sold-out dates at London’s O2 Arena. Throughout his prolific career, he’s garnered16-Grammy nominations, including his current for “Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album," and sales of more than one million albums for his 2010 album FLY ME TO THE MOON…THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK, VOLUME V.
Stevie Nicks, Rock and Roll's reigning queen, will be releasing her highly anticipated new CD “IN: YOUR DREAMS” on May 3, 2011. The new album, her first album of new material in a decade, was co-produced by former Eurythmic Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard. The new album is now available for fans to pre order at stevienicks.warnerreprise.com. Fans who pre-order the CD will receive an instant download of the record's first single, the Nicks’ penned "Secret Love”. The official release date of the single is February 3rd.
