Oh, the spelling and grammatical errors. Anyway, SWV signed that contract with that company and they are going to have to uphold it. Of course that company could let them out of it, but you know these record labels can be petty even when it comes to a group that's been in the business over 20 years coming off a flop album with no promo. I hope there is 2nd season of this show to see what happens.

I think they'll get a second season. The ratings were on par with or better than Braxton Family Values, their lead-in.
LOL @ Coko's tweets. Lord. Hopefully she's been recording that gospel album during this time. Let's get the focus back to SWV. :)

I think the fur coat thing could've been cute if they took a harder, more bossed up route with it. The three of them grinning like it was for an awkward family picture was just weird and corny. Back at the time I didn't notice the fur coat thing one way or another. In hindsight, that's a problem in its own right. I think their biggest problem (from an image perspective) was that their videos did not stand out one bit. When they came back with the second album, they were following up a triple (quadruple?) platinum debut album. Their debut album actually sold more than TLC's debut. It was time to step up the game and the budget. TLC shot two other "Creep" videos before eventually hit it right- and look how that paid off. Nineteen years later and the "Creep" video is both memorable and iconic. WTF was the "You're the One" video? I barely remember it but I think it had to do with them watching surveillance footage on a TV?

Weren't they also on motorcycles in the "You're The One" video? It was a crappy video.

Their only video I remember well is "Right Here/Human Nature". Their team never gave them much of an image like TLC or En Vogue. That's why the success of their reality show is so surprising to me, but I'm all for it!!

That's why the success of their reality show is so surprising to me, but I'm all for it!! The majority of that lies with that crazy manager they had. She sounds like a total trainwreck. People loved SWV's music, though, so I guess that's why they're watching. Kind of like rooting for the underdog, I guess.

That's why the success of their reality show is so surprising to me, but I'm all for it!! LOL, agreed. I remember "Weak" because of the boxing ring ( strong? as Coko asked) and "Rain" because it was so ridiculous that they were chillin' in the snow when the song was about a different form of precipitation. I also remember "Anything" because of Coko digging her nine inch nails under that ball player's towel. SWV always seemed more successful to me than En Vogue despite the lack of image. Hell, even Xscape and Total had more imaging than SWV.

^True. Their success on the show shouldn't really be that surprising because people still remember those great songs from the 90s and are still curious to where they are at now.

The show was sooo good! I'll be shocked if they don't get a second season. It's easy to see why these girls didn't stay together. They're totally dysfunctional. They don't trust each other. Coko is a selfish cunt who mindfucks people into taking her side/empathizing with her. And they have really learned nothing about how to conduct themselves as businesswomen after all that ranting about being screwed over in past contracts and business relationships.
I liked both of Coko's gospel albums, but she needs to accept (or "except") that she will never be Cece Winans. Make your gospel music because it makes you happy...not because you think you can get an extra coin from it. SWV is obviously where they bread and butter is. And as a fan, I don't want to see them in concert doing a three song medley because Coko is too holy to sing the hits. I want DOWNTOWN. I want CAN WE. The entire RELEASE SOME TENSION album was about sex. It's totally selfish to neglect the people who gave you your success because you are concerned with your "image." And after her portrayal on the show, she might as well sing the songs, because she looked like a total ungodly bitch anyway.

Yeah I don't really get Coko's issue with their material about sex. They are all grown, with children and two of them (including her, the lead singer) are married. Don't act like grown, married, God-fearing Christians aren't going Downtown in the privacy of their bedrooms.

...none of their singles about sex are even raunchy by today's standards.
And they had many moments on the show where they [Coko included] talked about what whores they were in the 90s...and how they currently put it down in the bedroom. If you can own that part of your past (and present), how can you not own the part that made you successful; if for nothing else, for the people who still bother to care enough about you to pay money to see you?! 0_o

It irks me that "Can We" is a forgotten part of their legacy despite how massive it was due to Billboard's chart policy at the time completely burying it. It's never mentioned in articles about them now despite probably being the third biggest smash of their career, I remember hearing Can We on the radio just as much as Weak, So Into You, Right Here etc;

I've been listening to their Best of SWV compilation and realized how strong their catalog is despite their lack of commercial success. They really do have a strong fan base.

despite their lack of commercial success. Say what? They were pretty major back in the day. They may not have been branded as celebrities in the same way that TLC was, but they had many hit singles and sold plenty of albums in their prime. They're currently the #11 best selling girl group in the world of all time, including all genres and all countries.

No I see what he is saying. They were successful but for 90s standards, they were not a major sales force. They all said on the show they considered "Release Some Tension" a huge flop even though it went Gold. I would say they were probably the biggest 90s girl group after TLC, Destiny's Child and maybe En Vogue but even then (like it was discussed in the death of R&B groups thread) they weren't a commercial gold mine.

Thanks for the clarification. My intent was not to minimize their commercial success but stacked against their contemporaries they were definitely lacking in that department. But I agree they had more success with their songs.

Finally got a chance to listen I Missed Us. It might actually be my favorite album after Release Some Tension.
Does anyone know if they have gotten new management? It feels like they must have someone getting them all this promo, random as it may be.
