Thanks for the chart, Cerebro. I used to be so into charts, but didn't bother the last few years. I woke up to listen to AT40 only to realize it was only 40 songs. All the local stations' own year-end charts are also 40 songs too. I used to enjoy the part of the bottom half of the chart way more, since I'm so sick of the songs at the top. It was even more cool when Casey Kasem had top 60 of the year for AC.

I agree about "Taking Chances" as an album, though I really liked the title song. It's a shame that a song like that would have gotten airplay on Hot AC if anyone else sang it but her. Initially, I thought the first single from this new album by Sia was really bland, but it has grown on me. I listened to the full preview of the album and I do like more songs on it than the last album. I'm also glad she is no longer including recycled songs on her albums, which she did much of the 2000's.

I just heard "Odds Are". Is that their second single? I agree... this new material isn't too interesting. I wonder if that one member leaving affected their songwriting. I don't really remember what "Boomerang" sounds like. It seems like every time I turn to the AC channel, the new music are the overplayed recurrents from pop, so I never stick around long enough to hear actual new music from Canadian artists.

I thought this song was really bland when I first heard it, but I've been playing it on my current playlist and it has grown on me.
It is unfortunate. I always liked switching over to AC to listen to some of the older artists' new singles. Now, it's just a glacially paced version of Hot AC of songs that have already been played to death on CHR/Pop.

The song sounds a bit bland on first listen, but maybe it'll grow on me. It's strange how they keep trying to put out albums in the 2000's moreso than the other former boy bands. Maybe it's because none of their solo careers took off.

Most so-called "one hit wonders" have their follow-up single (usually from the same album) doing quite well too, but after that, they find it difficult to chart and/or can't get another mega-hit. I personally liked "Better in Time" more than "Bleeding Love" though.

Is there a certain remix that pop stations are playing? My station is playing one with drums superimposed, I'm guessing. Although I usually prepare straight-up ballads, I actually prefer that in this song.

Yep, I have it. Ahh, the good old ol' days when I used to save charts. :'( I guessed I stopped when Billboard took over and Mediabase no longer allowed entry. I guess now it's available again partially? Maybe I should start up again, but I'm missing a couple of years' data now.

Thanks for posting AT40's replies to why they are sticking with just the top 40. I used to be really psyched listening to Part 1 of the Yearend show back when Casey Kasem did the top 100 for Pop, and even moreso for Part 1 of the AC and HAC shows because of the more obscure songs at the bottom of those charts. I'm usually just so burned out on the former top 5's. The main interest in Part 2 for me were the interesting chart stats and trivia which are lacking nowadays.

Partly, it's due to the catalyst for his success, which was YouTube. He was one of the first musical artists to get a record deal and then hit it big that way, so a lot of people felt it was undeserved.
Hatred for him grew from that point due to a couple of reasons...
1. He was easy to make fun of, especially with his earliest singles, because of his high voice which sounded like a girl and the juvenile sounding songs which made him seem completely undeserving of any attention
2. Yet he was everywhere on social media, radio, magazines, TV shows, books movies, almost to the point of overkill...
3. As his mainly pre-teen girl following grew, contempt escalated from boys sick of hearing the girls go crazy over him, and thus venomous immature comments on Youtube attacking his masculinity and abilities. This just spiralled into everyone making disparaging remarks about him.
He's not the greatest singer, but I do think he has some talent. I agree with one of the above posters who said he is on par or more talented than some of the acts in pop music right now. I remember being annoyed when I heard he would be on the new "We Are the World" recording, but I actually don't mind him anymore.

I heard this on the radio six times today, though I do flip between two different pop stations. The first time I heard the song, it was about halfway through, and I thought it sounded very bland. The second time I was able to hear it the whole way through and it's a bit better, but it was still rather unremarkable and disappointing. Hopefully, it's the time of song that really grows on you, esp. since I expect to hear it more than once a day on the radio for the next few months.

I didn't know the original Enrique title either until someone told me. It taints the song for me a little since I'm not a fan of expletives in songs... and it totally sucks when you get the CD especially for rap artists I like and it's the swearing versions.

I think for a break-out artist with a huge album with multiple singles, a year is good, but during that year, nothing should be released, not even collaborations. It annoys me when there's a re-release of the album, or a short extended play, which can drag out the era. And if that's the case, they should still wait a full year after the last single on their extended play or re-release.

This song sounds way too country. And I actually listen to country stations too. I also don't like this song.

It was hard to pick 5 from this list. I would definitely put Beyonce and Lady GaGa in the top 5.
As for the rest, Britney is hit and miss, Rhianna's songs can be catchy but they can also be repetitive and annoying (eg. "What's My Name?"). Same with Taylor Swift (eg. "Mine"). I did end up choosing these three though.
Kesha seems pretty talentless judging solely from the singles. Katy's Perry's songs are generic and cookie cutter boring. I actually expected more from Susan Boyle's album, based on the performance that made her famous.

I'll go with Lady GaGa. Though I like all of these albums except for Katy Perry's.

I'm going with Eminem for this one too... I think he has more hype right now. The Lady Antebellum song feels old now, though I wouldn't mind if it won. It was my favorite song for a while.

I think Eminem will win this one. I agree with erfrank about the other country song cutting into votes for "Need You Now".

The only song on the album I didn't like was "Runaway Baby". I'll go with "Marry Me" too.

These people always come back. It just goes in cycles. I've never been a huge fan but I usually like about one song from each of her albums.

I found "Bleeding Love" boring and uninspired. I would change the channel whenever it came on, which was very often. Though I actually like it now when it comes on once in a while. So I'll go with "No Air"... I like duets.

The lyrics of both are banal. I just took a listen to "The Harold Song" and I think I like the tune a little bit more than "Teenage Dream" but the performance is stop and start.

I can't say I liked Long Distance Dedications either. The main thing I wanted him to add were song clips like Rick Dees did. He did tons of extras on AT20, but I usually lost my patience when they strayed away from the countdown, unless it was for new music.

I'm always sick of recurrents, because they've already been played to death. I didn't know that's his theory, but I would have thought he would want listeners exposed to more new music, giving more artists a chance. But it is the safe way, and most radio stations do tend to repeat the same songs every two hours or so... they're afraid people will turn away when they hear a song they don't recognize.
What I miss most about Casey Kasem, which is missing with Ryan Seacrest, are the numbers, stats and chart connections (risers and droppers, weeks on, previous record holders, how many songs by female artists vs. bands this week, etc.) I don't mind interviews and breakouts. I wish AT40 would do some of the Rick Dees stuff, like playing song clips based on themes (eg. other songs that mention "Girl" or "Dream" in the title that have charted in the past), which allows some nostalgia while keeping it focused on current songs. Combine all that, and it would be the ideal countdown structure for me.

I didn't like her songs a few years back, when they constantly played her here in Canada. But I actually like "Ghost" and this one.

This song is growing on me. It sounded like a particularly boring love ballad the first few times I heard it. The video isn't very exciting, though.
