Will Smith went from "funny dude on Fresh Prince" to "obnoxious parent trying to shove his kids down everyone's throat."
If this hits, it'll probably be contained to the Urban audience, thankfully.

People are really annoying here, wow ! Not usually the type of song I usually like but I mean common, she's 9 years old and she puts some artists who are still trying to stay relevant (I won't same names) to shame ! I see a successful career for her !

Clearly they don't need the money. That's not why people have a problem. The issue is that she's not psychologically prepared to be famous. I'm sure she wants to do it. Everybody wants to be a pop star when they're nine. It doesn't make it a good idea.

Im sure she's doing this cuz she wants to i highly doubt Will & Jada are making her do it Please. Every 9 year old in the world wants to be a star like their favorite artists but it's clearly not a logical thought, it's a CHILD thought. Children think of a lot of crazy ideas in general. Parents should still have the common sense to instill value and whatnot in them....tossing her out to the industry this early is really sad especially hearing her talk in the Ryan Seacrest interview this morning about how the kids her age are way ahead of her in school. The whole point is that she's being robbed of a normal childhood which every child should get and it's something you never get back and saying "it's what she wants to do" is pointless because she's a 9 year old. This is the same reason why so many child stars have so many problems.

Oddly; this is currently showing up on real-time twice; as just Willow, and then again as Willow Smith. One is registering 6 spins for the day, the other is registering 5 spins. Provided one is not actually an error and the two will be merged under whatever name they decide, that would give it 11 spins for the day on POP.

For someone who is only nine years old, I am impressed. She has a lot of potential in the future...though I am not diggin this song at the moment. Not surprised that KIIS added this so early.

I find it funny that people are suddenly shocked now when she started doing movies back in 2007 and has done like 4 movies already according to Wiki. So it's okay for a 7 years old to have a movie career but not okay for a 9 years old to have a music career? She already doesn't and probably never had a normal childhood, so what's the difference now?

She already doesn't and probably never had a normal childhood, so what's the difference now? She was obviously never going to have a normal childhood, but there are plenty of celebrities who at least try to give their kids that. Maybe the reason people are just talking about it now is because this is a music board and we're not going to start threads for actors up in the Pop section, that's if we follow movies at all? And it's hardly like she's going to get the same scrutiny being a bit player in children's animations as she is doing music. Especially as it's already been mentioned that if she was doing the musical equivalent of Madagascar rather than songs like "Whip My Hair" it wouldn't be as worrying. This is as dysfunctional as any Black Eyed Peas song ... I can see it being a hit. I don't think you know what dysfunctional means.

She was in that film for about two minutes. It's completely not comparable.

That's easy...one size doesn't fit all. Not everyone is the same. Sure someone not being a child star may have changed some bad things that happened later down the line for some but it might not have and for others it may have kept them in the straight and narrow path. It's impossible to say with any kind of certainly. So just give up now.

She already doesn't and probably never had a normal childhood, so what's the difference now? People make movies with a story that require roles for children. There are tons of child actors. How many other children are there that are getting adds by the #2 chr/pop market in the country for a song about whippin' hair? Is she actually a protege with talent that should be taken seriously as a future star-in-the-making (with this song...no), or is she just the daughter of Jay-Z's two famous friends that he can make some money off of who also sucks at multiplication (gee, I wonder why)? Maybe someone can write a song for her about the trials and tribulations of grade school and send it to a format with a demographic that actually cares.

LMFAO. And how could we not when faced with your typical unassailable logic and consistency, right? As Rurry said, if you want a good reason why she shouldn't be doing this just take a look at, oh I don't know, every former child star ever? And nobody's even saying she shouldn't be dabbling in music. They're saying that the kind of music Willow is doing is both inappropriate and exposes her to a lot of pressure and scrutiny that no nine year old (arguably nobody full stop) is equipped to deal with.

Is the argument that no nine-year-old should pursue stardom, or is the argument that "Whip My Hair" is not age-appropriate material? If it's the former, I disagree. If it's the latter, I agree, but if Ms. Smith is looking for a lasting career in this field, it's unfortunate that she doesn't have the option of having kiddy material as the world's first impression of her. People just don't respect you when you try to shed the wholesome image (Miley Cyrus's Can't Be Tamed, Charlotte Church's Tissues and Issues...)
Is it possible that this will keep her from developing healthily? Yes, but that's not guaranteed, nor is it guaranteed that keeping her out of the spotlight would make her a happy "normal" person. So, if she's got the drive, the passion, and the talent, I wish her the best and hope she's also got a strong support network in place to help her deal with any stressors that may arise.
