Carrie blogged, those who are fanclub members, check it out!
Basically, she's excited about having hosted the CMAs for a third year. She was thrilled for Brad and thought the voters got it right. She also hinted at hosting again by questioning how many more times Brad and her would do it. She's also excited for the whole Narnia project. She commented on how she was on TV so much for the 3 hours of the CMAs. Lastly, she has bittersweet emotions about ending the tour, but looks forward to time off the road.

I really regret listening to those swedes take on 'There's A Place For Us'. Talk about a wrong impression. I'm gonna f**king love this. She sounds amazing. It's the kinda song that really allows for her to show off her gorgeous tone. And, I even think it's pretty interesting lyrically.

I loooove the 5:01 video (the third)! 1:41 to around 2:15 in particular, when she was being shown singing, was AWESOME!!! Love the "broken hands" lyric too. I'm enjoying the religious references. Carrie really does proclaim her faith loudly and proudly. It doesn't always make her popular, but I find it very admirable. When I took my brother to see her show at the Hollywood Bowl, he commented after that it was great to see Carrie being so thankful to God. My brother didn't know anything about Carrie. He just got that from the way she sang "How Great Thou Art" with such reverence.
Back to the song, it's stuck in my head already. I haven't been this excited about a Carrie single release since Play On! Whatever happens with this single, I'm really happy she made a song like this. Never thought I'd say that after my ick thoughts upon seeing/hearing the Swedish boy band version!
In addition to acoustic and classic country albums, I now also want Carrie to make a gospel album. The wish list's getting longer.

^ I totally agree. I ripped the 1 min Narnia commercial into an mp3 and I've listened to that (according to iTunes) 71 times.

I'd be the happiest man on earth if Carrie decided to drop a gospel or christian album!! It'd be like I died and gone to heaven and an angel is singing God's praise, figuratively speaking!!

I'd die, go to Heaven, and return to Earth if she recorded a Vintage Country album along with the Gospel album. One can pray. :)

According to someone on the FC, she sang Mama's Song, Undo It and There's A Place For Us for the Thanksgiving Day Parade. I can confirm that, having been there (thanks anonymous Carrie fan for the PM alert!). Will recap in full a bit later, but it was a fun show. Carrie was mic'd for TV, but we also heard the TV audio playback after she was done performing, and she sounded terrific. The highlight, believe it or not, was probably Carrie's first take on "There's a Place for Us." Mike Fisher was there, and if I had had more presence of mind and a little less self-restraint, I would have yelled out for him to make sure he beats the Flyers tomorrow.

That's great that she sang the Narnia song for the taping! I cannot wait to hear this. Also, I'm excited to see what is shown tonight on ABC, I listened to the Opry during the taping and it was phenomenal....

A little more detail on today's CBS taping:
The audience coordinator told us that this was their highest attended pre-tape and that they were pleasantly surprised to see that as many people who signed up actually showed up. I believe the space officially holds around 200 people, or so the e-mail from the organizers said. To give credit to the people running the show, the staff was pleasant, we were allowed in on time and the taping more or less started and ended on time. The crowd in attendance was pretty diverse in age and gender; skewed female and late teens/early 20s but had a good age range represented. There were at least two older men there, and each of them wore a Santa hat representing their respective favorite football teams (in this case, the Colts and the Eagles; I'm not a football fan, but that Eagles fan was asking for trouble wearing gear in the city).
Maggie Rodriguez of The Early Show emceed, and the audience got some pre-Carrie entertainment as the hair & make-up people fussed over her for a really long time. At one point, a guy yelled out, "You look fine," and Rodriguez appeared shocked that anyone had been watching her. We got a pretty good laugh out of that.
It was a good, enthusiastic crowd that greeted Carrie's band with a prolonged cheer, and then, of course, Carrie. She was wearing a slate gray vest as a top with a maroon necktie, and matching slate gray slacks. Great outfit, I loved it. Carrie looked out in the crowd, and you could tell, I think, that she wanted to engage with the whole crowd but that she had no idea what to say. I know that sounds odd, but it was a glimpse into how shy she really is. In any event, within a few moments she started singling out and waving to/chatting with different members of the audience who stood out in some way. For instance, she applauded the Santa hats (the two older men weren't the only ones with them on -- the audience had been told to dress "festively") and asked if the show had handed them out. Carrie seemed happy to find out that no, people had brought them on their own.
In any case, Rodriguez introduced Carrie as a five-time Grammy winner with three nominations at the upcoming People's Choice Awards, set to sing her current single, "Mama's Song." As I said in a previous post, Carrie and the band were mic'd for TV, so we sort of got a hollower sound live. She was hitting her notes (no sharpness this time, and her vocal was pleasingly relaxed) and seemed to glance over and smile to her right several times during the song. The only part of the song that was less than seamless was the "leave" part -- she stopped to breathe before it each time. It doesn't sound bad, but it is a break in the phrasing to handle a transition into quieter volume. "Mama's Song" is a deceptively tough song to sing because of the control it requires. Anyway, the crowd responded well to the first take, a producer came over to Carrie to say they were going to do a second, Carrie asked the crowd if we would be OK to hear it again, she got a big cheer, and she ran through "Mama's Song" once more. Carrie sings "Mama's Song" with more of a melismatic drawl live, and I think that helps to lend some character to the song.
Next, Rodriguez went through another intro (something about it being exciting in New York City, but this being the place to be) and said that Carrie would now be singing her smash hit, "Undo It." The crowd launched into a big cheer of surprise at that, and started clapping along with the guitar intro. The thing about audience clapalongs is that they tend to go off beat quickly, and this one did, quickly. No matter, Carrie ran through this song twice too, with the invited audience singalong. She just seems to know how to perform this song, and I think the small setting really worked for Carrie because she didn't feel like she had to reach all the way back to the rafters. It made for a stronger vocal, and Carrie threw in a laugh on one of the lyrics that really worked. Naturally, I can't remember the exact lyric, only that I thought it was a nice touch. Ah well. I should note that in cueing up the second take, Rodriguez wanted us to cheer like we did the first time the crowd realized Carrie was singing "Undo It," but she knew it was less likely to happen because the surprise factor wasn't there.
I think that it was after the second "Undo It" take that Carrie interacted with the audience a bit more. Not sure. In any event, someone from the crowd gave her something and she said that this person had given her snacks, which she would now hand off to her lovely co-host. At this point, the sound was a little muffled, but as far as I can tell, there was some coaxing to bring said co-host out, to no avail. But then part of the crowd (the part that knew what was going on, I guess) started chanting, "Mike! Mike! Mike!" Judging from the cheer that followed, I'm guessing that he quickly poked his head out from the side curtain. I didn't see him at that point, but I think Carrie giggled and said that he had turned bright red. By the way, Mike was standing off to Carrie's right, so her glances to that side during "Mama's Song" now made more sense.
Next up, Carrie said that she would be singing a song that she had never sung before in front of an audience and that she hoped that she would remember the words. Rodriguez introduced the song as the theme song from the new Narnia movie, and Carrie launched into "There's a Place for Us." So here's the thing. I still think there are some lyrics in the song that take the cheeseballing and triteness too far and the line "it's written in the stars that shine above" is an inefficient lyric that makes me ask, "Well, what else would the stars being doing, and where? Playing hopscotch on a NYC sidewalk?" But Carrie sold that song in all its inspirational glory in that first take, and, without the benefit of a single Narnia scene in the background, made me think that the song was perfect for the film. It was a combination of her physicality, expression and interpretation, and she really nailed it. She did a second take, and while the vocal was as perfect as the first, the physicality and expression weren't anywhere near as powerful. I hope that CBS ends up using the first take, because Carrie's performance in that one was a good deal better.
I agree with Cowboy Casanova that the song is catchy. I was surprised, because that Swedish boy band made me think that the melody was incredibly dreary. I'm still in the camp of people who wants Carrie to sing more lyrics that make her rise to the interpretive challenge, but I will grudgingly concede that she made it easy to get into "There a Place for Us" today.
That was it for the performances. Then Carrie got to show off her teleprompter skills by reading off several teases that will be used going into commercial break. She almost got the first one on the first try, but apologized in her own little way for adding words. Probably the funniest moment of the afternoon came when she asked the crowd if she had been talking too fast. Naturally, many in the crowd (who had intermittently been shouting things like "I love you, Carrie!" "You're beautiful, Carrie!") told her that she was perfect. But then a producer came over and whispered something in her ear. Carrie informed the audience that she had, indeed, been talking too fast, and mock accusingly said, "You're wrooooooooong." She got a good laugh from that. The producer over the intercom also piped in to ask her to slow down and Carrie said that she talks fast when she gets excited. She really hadn't been talking that fast, but she is at this point accustomed enough to these TV gigs to know what they expect. In any case, she got the next tease in one take, messed up the third with a series of "bleh bleh bleh"s before getting it on the second try, and then got the fourth on the first try, as well. Next, she was instructed to wave, so she hammed it up with some pageant queen waves (more laughs) before doing some more normal ones.
And I think that was it. Someone from the crowd yelled out that she would see Carrie tomorrow, which prompted Carrie to ask who else would be there, which got her some cheers, and made her cheer, as well. Mike Fisher (wearing a black, long-sleeve and form-fitting crew shirt, I think, and jeans) came out on stage to give Carrie some water; he grinned sheepishly at the cheers without acknowledging them directly. He really seemed to have no interest in the spotlight when he's not in it for his own professional reasons, and strikes me as being cut from the same cloth as Carrie in that regard. In any case, Carrie spent a little time thanking the crowd and making a motion toward her heart to convey how much the response meant to her, she picked up a couple of stuffed animal gifts from fans, waved to a few more people, spent a few minutes hamming it up and posing for pictures for the crowd, said thank you again, and exited stage right.
After that, the producers informed us that they would be giving us audio playback of Carrie's performances but this time focusing the cameras on the crowd. They told us to pay attention to the guy on stage for directions on what to do. It was an odd way of going about it, because the crowd was obviously going to be at its most enthusiastic when Carrie was actually performing in front of us. But in any case, the guy on the stage apparently was happy with the crowd singalongs and clapalongs during playback, because he pretty much stood there and watched us the whole time. I had feared that they would try to turn us into a sea of swayers for "There's a Place for Us," but thankfully, they didn't dare. My only interest at this point was in how Carrie sounded on the TV feed audio, and as I said before, she sounded terrific, the TV feed having captured the richness and resonance of her voice.
So, all in all, good times. Should be a good show when it airs on CBS on Thanksgiving Day.
P.S. Carrie's engagement ring is very sparkly.
Edited because "signing" is not the same thing as "singing." Sheesh.
