Carrie showing us again she can make a mediocre song sound really good. While I think the lyrics are really soppy/cheesy, I have to remind myself that they are meant to be inspirational lyrics to a song from a fantasy movie targeted towards children.
While I don't care for the song's lyrics or main melody, I absolutely love the production and strings on this song, which brilliantly augment Carrie's vocals on this track. Did not Mark Bright produce this ? If so, I am pleasantly surprised, because, IMO, Carrie's golden vocals sound so pure and unadulterated by over-processing, something sadly overpresent on her records. I love her effortless transition from chest to head voice (example: "exactly" at 1:06 and "there's" at 1:11.). She carries the verses and choruses very strongly and delivers another great vocal.
The subdued ending of the bridge "There's a place for us" at 2:50 followed by the dramatic violins at 2:55 brilliantly serves as the denouement of the song. I wish more songs on radio today were constructed in such a fashion. Following such a near-climax, I find the ending to be quite disappointing, as the final verse ends rather abruptly, leaving me hanging... :(

What a world of difference there is between listening to TAPFU over computer speakers vs. Sennheiser headphones... WOW!!! Have I mentioned how much I love orchestras? Loooove the orchestra here... such dramatic instrumentation! I love it! Btw, TAPFU is now #32 overall on iTunes

I think that pic is from the Play On era photo shoot. She's wearing the same thing in some of the Play On tour book pictures.

Looks like Carrie is the cover story for InStyle... This looks like Carrie back in the Idol days minus a few lbs!! Gorgeous, nonetheless!! I'm in awe with how great TAPFU is!! I completely fell in love with Carrie's vocals and emotions!! I love that kind of song (inspirational soundtrack) and Carrie did it like it was supposed to be done!! Really proud of her!!

The songwriting session from Hillary Lindsey's perspective: Country WeeklyLet me just say that it's 2am where I'm at; I have an early meeting tomorrow; and I can't sleep because I'm listening to TAPFU over and over and over again! And it's now #26 on iTunes.

Do you guys think there will even be a 5th single?
I hope it's SWISLY or "Quitter", if there is one.

I do think there will be a fifth single, which will serve as the final single from this era. "Mama's Song" will peak in February at the absolute latest (but I think it will be more like late December/early January). Assuming the next album will see a fall release, the lead single will likely debut in August. I don't think Carrie's team would go 6 months without a single on the radio. 2-3 months at the most.
If they're going with an upbeat single for the fifth one, I'd like to see "This Time" or "Quitter" released, but I'm still holding out hope for SWISLY or WCIS (although the second is unlikely, seeing as it's already been submitted for the 2011 Grammys).

I am in love with "There's A Place For Us". I love when Carrie puts her Christian views into her writing, in that sense I believe it makes her music personal and I find it inspiring.
So the article Vinman posted says:
"International cover versions of Underwood’s song will be recorded overseas in a small number of select countries, broadening the impact of this worldwide release."
Does this mean Carrie's version will not get a worldwide release? Does

But Carrie is a co-writer, so she will still get some recognition at least. :)

Does It will probably be released, but I understand that in some non english speaking countries, the version they promote will be the one sang by local artists. When Carrie released Ever Ever After, here in Spain we got the spanish version sang by Gisela. She was a contestant in an American Idol kind of show, but lately she survives doing this kind of things for Disney. Maybe they chose her again to cover TAPFU.

From the looks of it you're utilizing Cheryl to disagree with my statement. Right? Well...in that case..."There's A Place For Us" is better than any of that inspirational fodder found on your queen's debut. That's all. Anyways, I stand by my statement. Carrie sells this stuff unlike anyone else. You can tell she truly believes in the subject matter of her inspirational material. And, no Cheryl Cole gif is going to change my view on that.

Well...in that case..."There's A Place For Us" is better than any of that inspirational fodder found on your queen's debut. That's all. Does "your queen" refer to Kelly Clarkson ? If so, what does she have to do with this ? I simply was disagreeing with your blanket statement that " Nobody does inspirational better than Carrie". There are several folks whose music is more inspirational to me than Carrie (or Kelly for that matter). I never mentioned Kelly or anyone in my post, so please don't use me to incite any Idol fanwars in this thread....

Well, my badddd. How am I supposed to respond to a Cheryl Cole gif? LOL. Nvm. You don't have to answer that. I'll just get back to ignoring you.

^ouch they ripped on billy currington badly! And I'm not too fond of the reviewer's comparison of Carrie and taylor... I think Carrie is a fantastic performer...I never saw taylor live, so I can't compare the two, but they are completely different artists...

I think Carrie is a fantastic performer...I never saw taylor live, so I can't compare the two, but they are completely different artists... I agree- the reviewer took the obvious choice of comparison, another very successful country music superstar. At her shows, Carrie's biggest highlight is her vocals, since dance/acrobatics, playing instruments, pure singer-songwriter vibe, and faux-theatre dramatics/storylines are not significant components of her shows. Therefore, I feel if any comparison to Carrie is to be made, it should be to another primarily vocal-based performer. That's my take at least, but I place such a high emphasis on live vocals when I attend a show......

Weird, the same author posted another review for the Newark show:
____________________________________________________________
Carrie Underwood, Play On (12,000, +14%, 1.798 million total) (#52 Billboard 200)
Loretta Lynn and Friends, Coal Miner's Daughter: A Tribute to Loretta Lynn (feat. Carrie Underwood's You're Lookin' at Country) (14,000, debut, 14,000) (#46 BB200)
Carrie Underwood's Do You Hear What I Hear) (5,000, +152%, 320,000) (#130 BB200)

^ I'm not sure if that reviewer was really paying attention to the show. One fan who was there commented on another forum that Carrie never apologized for having to take a breath - she tripped when she was in the truck or something like that, and commented on that on her way to the stage from the truck. I also doubt she would have apologized for singing a song she co-wrote - that would be very strange. Methinks this reviewer is twisting things around quite a bit.
I also disagree with him on Carrie not challenging herself. The material on Play On and the chances she took with her singing, along with challenging herself more in the writers room, prove to me that Carrie is one of few artists who is not afraid of taking chances artistically. Entertainer-wise, the Play On tour is full of many surprises and such, and is a big step up from her previous concert tours. That wouldn't have happened if she weren't willing to take chances and try new things.

She's the only solo female on that list. Pretty rad.
