Rihanna tried to get the luck like Britney had with "3" when entered at No-1. But she & IDJ didn't count the numbers well... They thought that was too easy, but hopefully B.Mars is at No-1. By the way i have a good feeling about "Oh Santa" for being No-1 around Christmas. And after 4-5 weeks at No-1 for ..."like a G6"

Also, the last time a Christmas song topped the Hot 100 at Christmas time, was Christmas 1958, when The Chipmunks ruled the roost with "The Chipmunk Song." So to say the least, it's not a very regular occurrence.

2. i really thought mama's song would make it this week I did too. :( It has been gaining a lot of airplay (over 20 mil) and was up to 6,000 in digital sales, so I thought it would. But as long as she continues to gain airplay and sales, she should debut next week :) She's gotta be really close now.

The rollercoaster high-debut > quick fall > rise back up chart trajectory is quite common.
Only Girl might not hit #1 but there's no reason to say it won't climb back up as airplay climbs.

Nobody has said it won't move back up after more airplay kicks in. We're just commenting on how sure certain posters were that it would automatically become Rihanna's 8th #1.

Not only that it was mentioned many times that this was already Rihanna's 8th #1, not that it could be if it went that far.
People got a little too excited about it being #1 on itunes

TD didnt drop like that? it dropped from 7 to 9 lol. And ESOM is a bad example because when it shot to no.5 it was because of the VMA performance. And when it shot back to no.1 it was because of the world series. That song is truly in a league of its own lol.

There are always those ardent devotees who claim their favorite's latest single is going to #1 shortly after its debut/premiere (see Mariah's "Oh Santa" release for instance); this is nothing new. Anyone with even the slightest familiarity with iTunes popularity bars knew (after tracking "Only Girl (In The World)" within its first five or so days of release) that it wouldn't be securing that #1 spot. The digital gap wasn't widened enough and the airplay difference was insurmountable. I think its chances of hitting the top are now slim. However, I wouldn't say it's completely out of the realm of possibility (perhaps when the video is released it will provide a nice digital boost and the airplay will be sufficient enough to give Rihanna another #1).

I agree but I am not seeing the competition to say she has a slim chance to hit #1. She promotes and that is very important. The song is played on multiformats...she will promote it around the time it peaks on airplay with a sales boost to add to it. The songs out now are either peaking and or will peak before her song begins to peak. She could very well hit #1 based on the timing of year. Either way, she will be a top 10 mainstay regardless so...

Update on the 2010 Billboard year inverse-point rakings after 45 weeks:
01 3770 Need You Now Lady Antebellum 02 3731 Hey, Soul Sister Train 03 2832 TiK ToK Ke$ha 04 2692 Breakeven The Script 05 2656 Bad Romance Lady Gaga 06 2630 In My Head Jason Derülo 07 2591 Telephone Lady Gaga FT. Beyoncé 08 2507 Break Your Heart Taio Cruz FT. Ludacris 09 2406 I Gotta Feeling The Black Eyed Peas 10 2375 OMG Usher FT. will.i.am
Again, this is not the system that will be used by Billboard. There's no way Breakeven will be that hight (weak digital sales). Although it's possible NYN or HSS will steal the no.1 from TT if they stay on the chart for the remaining 7 weeks.
Here's the same system, but for artists:
Without features: 01 8236 Lady Gaga 02 7256 Usher 03 6939 Ke$ha 04 6634 The Black Eyed Peas 05 5769 Drake 06 5763 Jason Derülo 07 5624 B.o.B. 08 5339 Lady Antebellum 09 4449 Train 10 4347 Jay-Z
With features: 01 9459 Ludacris 02 8816 Drake 03 8617 Lil Wayne 04 8454 Usher 05 8236 Lady Gaga 06 8127 Ke$ha 07 6989 Jason Derülo 08 6634 The Black Eyed Peas 09 6196 Taylor Swift 10 6126 Rihanna

I think Rihanna would have hit #1 had they held it off for another week. We'll see if the vid has a significant impact.
