^ FAIL. 3 of your "top 5" songs (that you JUST posted) are Tedder songs... ROFLMAO. Interesting. I remember there being a tweet from someone associated with Tedder saying that Kelly wrote to one of his tracks, maybe this was what he was referring to. DBAGAI is one of my faves, I'd love for it to make it on the album. It has a lot of potential.

Someone on spillitnow.com posted this about the duet with Jason Aldean: It's really good and they'll be performing it at this year's CMA's in a couple weeks. The song is a bit high for her, but overall a beautiful song. I can't wait to get my hands on it, so I can listen on repeat!Someone else asked if it is confirmed and since when and this is what that person said: It's the word from his management team. It's easier for Kelly to sing something that stretches the high end of her range if she's only going to be performing it for promo events and not doing it on tour. In that sense, it's a perfect choice for a duet. But I didn't get the vibe from the demo that it was really that high. We'll see. A CMA performance would be great. It's the kind of awards show exposure she so rarely gets.

Awesome! Kelly's gonna be at the CMA's.
"The song is a bit high for her" -- I wonder what they mean by that considering Kelly is pretty good at tackling high notes.

^ FAIL. 3 of your "top 5" songs (that you JUST posted) are Tedder songs... This is mean, but I love it. People are quick to assume that Tedder is a total bastard for what allegedly happened and as such, the quality of his music has to be poor. Unfair assumption. I believe his work was the most standout on the album after MLWSWY, and would have likely seen better success had Halo never happened: Already Gone If I Can't Have You Save You Impossible Tip of My Tongue Someone on spillitnow.com posted this about the duet with Jason Aldean: It's really good and they'll be performing it at this year's CMA's in a couple weeks. It's the kind of awards show exposure she so rarely gets. I believe the song was not intended as a duet, and I'm sure she may choose to sing it alone. I also believe the demo for SUBG did not go as high as it turned out to be--which was all Kelly's doing. I, for one, love it when she shows off her range. The climaxes from SUBG, BTHE, and BOY were truly epic. Nonetheless, I can't wait to see what they mean by "too high for her." It doesn't get much higher than she can do, unless you're talking Mariah's whistle.

I doubt they'd have gone to the time and trouble to record it in a key that was too high for her. Maybe the person that heard it doesn't like high singing and just thought her part was too high.

Great that she'll be on the CMAs this year. It's been a while since we've had an awards show performance.

Call Me has to be on the new album. It's becoming one of my favorite Kelly songs, I can't stop listening to it, and I can't love a song that's not on any album this much.

As much as I like it, it's only the second or third best ballad from the preshows, behind I Wish I Could Be Lonely Instead and possibly I'm Not The Only One (I think if pushed I'd rate it #2).

Only now I'm listening to the pre-show songs, LOL. I know, so late. I'll check those two out in a bit. :)

So the song is high. Maybe this is why they went with Kelly over Carrie.

Maybe this is why they went with Kelly over Carrie. #Justkiddingbutnotreally All digs aside, it's not untrue that Kelly's comfort zone sits a little higher than Carrie's, so if they already had the female duet harmony (or even melody, depending on how they worked with it) figured out before they made their selections, that would be a reason to go to Kelly first.

Call me is my favorite song from the preshows and the "studio version" is even better. I really want it on the album and would love to see kelly performing it on tour. So happy that kelly's going to be at the CMA's!!!

If the key on the finished duet is in is similar to that demo to 'Don't You Wanna Stay', it is really not all that high, however the harmonies have the potential to be very high. I do not know enough about Jason's voice- does he usually sing in a higher key ? While I am completely guessing here, I would think that the reason Jason chose Kelly over Carrie for the duet lies in the thought that there would be more "hype" or "excitement" in choosing a non-country female artist over a very popular country artist. Kelly is still a pretty safe artist for Jason as she is a familiar name in the country world because of her tour and duet with Reba. I do not think Carrie would have any trouble with the key of the demo as it is, but I do not know how the harmonies will sound. Jason also mentioned that he wanted a very soulful voice for the track, which is probably another reason for the selection of Kelly. I am uber-excited to watch the CMAs if the rumour is true: Not only is Carrie is co-hosting, but the Kelly/Jason duet would certainly be a highly hyped and anticipated showcase for the show.

Jason was also clear that he wanted Carrie for the song, Kelly was just his first choice. Anyway, what matters is how it turns out.

Compare Katy Perry's IDNHU to KC's IDNHU. The bridge appears to be all Kelly's doing, as the song was not originally intended to be that high. Most songs nowadays are not intended to show off range. I remember when Christina needed to be able to hit an E-flat 5 for My Reflection before being considered for the song. So, I think KC may have chosen to make it higher.

at the song being too high for Kelegend. Whatevs! That person is either lying or doesn't like songs in a high key. I am curious if he will perform this duet on the CMA's. It would make a lot more sense to perform his lead single but maybe they think this will garner more attention and interest in the album as a whole. I've also been wondering if they may perform on the AMA's. That show is known for tons of performances and Aldean is nominated. It would be a perfect time to perform the duet, IMO.

The good thing about this being performed on the CMA's is that it seems likely this will be a single (hopefully soon).

Oh, and "Call Me" is officially one of my favorite Kelly tracks ever, much less from the new stuff! Everything about it is just great. The lyrics, her vocals (duh!), the verses pull me in while the choruses rip my heart out and it has a really strong bridge. It is an amazing track.

I agree, as stellar as the lyrics and melody are, the method by which she emotes on this song during the choruses, especially the final chorus, is on another level. It is so captivating, IMO- it's almost as if she is ready to cry as she is singing. This is yet another reason why I consider Kelly to be one of the most vocally descriptive (of the lyrics), emotional, and soulful mainstream vocalists today.

I loved the minute and a half clip we first got of 'Call Me' but the rest was kind of a let down. I expected a huge mind-blowing bridge and it fell short for me. Maybe with the right production... But So Far Apart is my favorite of the ones we most recently got. it.

Call Me and the song that Reba's poem inspired "So Far Apart" are probably my favorite pre-show songs. I'd love to see either of them on the new album.

There's barely a pop(ular) song released in the last five years that is "too high" for Kelly Clarkson, so I can't imagine this one being.

I feel like Already Gone's arch-nemesis 'Halo' was too high for Kelly, but I'm not good with notes & such. Can anyone confirm?
And this is not an opportunity to bash Ryan or Beyonce, so for all you random posters that only post when it's time to do just that, kindly sit back down. :)

In chest voice, I believe the highest note is one of the "Halo"s during the chorus only at D5, which is far below Kelly's chest upper limit (which is somewhere from B5-C6 at her limit or G#5-A5 on a regular basis at her nightly concerts). In head voice during the bridge, the highest note I believe is one of the "ooo"s, which is F#5, far below Kelly's head voice upper limit, which is well into the six octave.
