www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/content_display/charts/chart_alert/e3i2c32caa96388aebb15f7c28bbd526781Discs Drive Lil Wayne's 'Human' 16-1 on Billboard 200 October 20, 2010 Editor: Keith Caulfield; Editorial Director: Silvio Pietroluongo Two weeks after Lil Wayne's "I Am Not a Human Being" bowed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 exclusively from download sales, its CD release pushes it to No. 1 in its third chart week, selling 125,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Darius Rucker arrives in second place with his "Charleston, SC 1966" (and at No. 1 on Country Albums) while Big Time Rush, the Band Perry, Sufjan Stevens and All That Remains also start in the top 10 . . . On Digital Songs, Taylor Swift makes another big entrance as "Back to December" arrives at No. 1 with 241,000 while P!nk's "Raise Your Glass" celebrates a 59-6 second-week leap (129,000; up 392%). FLASH POINTS • The CD release of Lil Wayne's "I Am Not a Human Being"—which bowed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 two weeks ago exclusively from download sales—pushes the set from No. 16 to No. 1 this week with 125,000 sold (up 443%), according to Nielsen SoundScan. • It's the first No. 1 to climb to the top (as opposed to debuting there) since a year ago, when the "Twilight Saga: New Moon" soundtrack moved 2-1 in its second week on the list. • And so, with "Human" making a 16-1 jump on the list, it's the largest leap to the top since the Jan. 19, 2008, chart, when Radiohead's "In Rainbows" zipped 156-1. It debuted a week early on the list because retailers began selling it before its official street date. • Lil Wayne's rise to No. 1 is a bit similar to how Pearl Jam's "Vitalogy" also took an unconventional route to the top back in 1994. The latter was, like "Human," released on one configuration first before hitting retailers in more standard formats two weeks later. "Vitalogy" debuted at No. 55 on Dec. 10, 1994, with 34,000 copies sold exclusively on vinyl LP. It fell to No. 173 in week two and then vaulted to No. 1 with 877,000 thanks to the release of the set on CD and cassette. • Back on this week's Billboard 200: Hootie & the Blowfish frontman-turned-solo country star Darius Rucker arrives at No. 2 with his second country set, "Charleston, SC 1966," selling 101,000. His last release, 2008's "Learn to Live," debuted and peaked at No. 5 with a 60,000-unit start. • Rucker has gone higher, but only if you count his work with Hootie. The band charted a pair of No. 1 albums in 1995 and 1996 with "Cracked Rear View" and "Fairweather Johnson," respectively. • Rucker's set is one of five new arrivals into the top 10 this week; the other four all earn their first top 10. He's joined by the Nickelodeon TV stars Big Time Rush with their debut set, "B.T.R." (No. 3 with 67,000); the Band Perry's self-titled full-length debut (No. 4 with 53,000); Sufjan Stevens' "Age of Adz" (No. 7 with 36,000—his best sales week yet); and rock band All That Remains' "For We Are Many" (No. 10 with a career-high 29,000). • For the Band Perry, its introductory EP missed the big chart, but reached No. 32 on the Country Albums tally. Stevens has reached as high as No. 27 on the Billboard 200—earlier this year, in fact—with the "All Delighted People" EP. All That Remains' previous high-water mark was the No. 16 entry of "Overcome" in 2008 (nearly 29,000). • Last week's Billboard 200 No. 1, Toby Keith's "Bullets in the Gun," drops to No. 9 with 30,000 (down 58%). Eminem's "Recovery" falls one rung to No. 5 (50,000; down 4%), Kenny Chesney's "Hemingway's Whiskey" drops four spots to No. 6 (40,000; down 39%), and Zac Brown Band's "You Get What You Give" slides three to No. 8 (34,000; down 22%). • Over on the Digital Songs chart, Taylor Swift's "Back to December" arrives at No. 1 with 241,000. It's the third pre-release single from her "Speak Now" album, which drops next Monday (Oct. 25). One more track, "Mean," was issued on Oct. 19, so expect another Swift debut on Digital Songs next week. "December" bumps Far*East Movement's "Like a G6" down to No. 2 with 223,000 (but with a 1% gain). Meanwhile, P!nk's "Raise Your Glass" celebrates a 59-6 second-week leap (129,000; up 392%). • Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Oct. 17) totaled 5 million units, up 2% compared with the sum last week (4.9 million) and down 14% compared with the comparable sales week of 2009 (5.9 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 231 million, down 14% compared with the same total at this point last year (267.1 million). • Digital track sales this past week totaled 19.7 million downloads, up 1% compared with last week (19.6 million) and up 3% stacked next to the comparable week of 2009 (19.2 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 899.7 million, down 1% compared with the same total at this point last year (904.8 million). MARKET WATCH • Album units, current chart week: 5 million units • Up 1% from last week's charts: 4.9 million units • Down 14% from the comparable week in 2009: 5.9 million units • This week: The top two albums each sell more than 100,000 copies. • This week last year on the Billboard 200: Michael Buble's "Crazy Love" held at No. 1 with 203,000 (up 55%) after debuting a week earlier with only three days of sales under its belt. The "Twilight: New Moon" soundtrack arrived in second place with 115,000. A LOOK AHEAD • Among the albums released this week, due on next week's charts: Sugarland's "The Incredible Machine," Kings of Leon's "Come Around Sundown," Rod Stewart's "Fly Me to the Moon . . . The Great American Songbook Volume V," the soundtrack to "Glee: The Music, the Rocky Horror Glee Show" Shakira's "Sale el Sol," Third Day's "Move" and the soundtrack to "Hannah Montana Forever." • Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2009 when: The "Twilight: New Moon" soundtrack climbed one spot to No. 1 with 153,000 (up 33%) in its second week, bumping the previous week's topper, Michael Buble's "Crazy Love," down to No. 3 with 102,000 (down 50%). Tim McGraw's "Southern Voice" bowed in the runner-up slot with 137,000.

new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart_watch/67706/week-ending-oct-17-2010-1-and-behind-bars/;_ylt=ApaAPUwK_fj0HZMg.SBEwFYPwiUv It's customary when artists hit #1 for them to receive congratulatory gift baskets from friends and associates. The baskets must be lining up at Rikers Island, where Lil Wayne is finishing a sentence for a weapons violation. The rapper's I Am Not A Human Being surges from #16 to #1 in its third week on the Billboard 200 in the wake of the belated release of the CD. The album had debuted at #2 two weeks ago just on the strength of digital sales. The album sold 125,000 copies this week, which is a little more than the 110,000 it sold two weeks ago when it was brand new. In 1969, Johnny Cash hit #1 with Live At San Quentin. But I'd never thought we'd see the day that an artist in prison, not just performing in one, would have a #1 album. This is Wayne's second #1 album, following 2008's Tha Carter III. The CD includes three extra tracks that weren't on the 10-song digital edition. I Am Not A Human Being is the first album to shoot from outside the top 15 to #1 since Radiohead's In Rainbows vaulted from #156 to #1 in January 2008. It was forced onto the chart a week early because some retailers jumped the gun and sold it before it official release date. I Am Not A Human Being is also the first album to debut in the top 10, fall out of the top 10 and then come back to reach #1 for the first time since Daughtry's Daughtry four years ago. That album debuted high originally because of the strong impression that Chris Daughtry had made on American Idol. It came back strong because of the popularity of the single "It's Not Over." Billboard's Keith Caulfield notes that a closer analogy to the current scenario is Pearl Jam's Vitalogy, which debuted at #55 in November 1994 purely on the sale of vinyl LPs. It fell to #173 in its second week and then vaulted to #1 in its third week when the CD and cassette were finally released. Lil Wayne is 28. Will he ever be too old to have "Lil" as part of his name? I guess that hasn't exactly been his biggest concern lately. Taylor Swift's "Back To December" enters Hot Digital Songs at #1, with first-week sales of 242,000 copies. It's Swift's third #1 on this chart so far this year. "Today Was A Fairytale" debuted at #1 in January. "Mine" debuted at #1 in August. Swift is the first artist to top the digital chart three times in 2010. Eminem, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Rihanna and will.i.am have each done it twice (combining lead and featured credits). The last artist to land three #1 digital hits in a calendar year was Lady Gaga last year. "Mine" and "Back To December" will appear on Swift's Speak Now album, which will be released next week (and will chart in two weeks). Another Swift song, "Mean," was released yesterday and will undoubtedly debut high on next week's chart. Could it become Swift's fourth #1 digital hit of 2010? Stay tuned. Darius Rucker's Charleston SC 1966 enters The Billboard 200 #2. It's one of five country albums in this week's top 10. The title refers to the city, state and year in which Rucker was born. The album sold 101,000 copies this week, which is a big improvement over the first-week tally of Rucker's 2008 country debut album, Learn To Live. That album started with sales of 60,000. It has sold 1,495,000 to date. Charleston is Rucker's highest-charting album since Hootie & the Blowfish topped the chart with Fairweather Johnson in May 1996. That was Hootie's second #1 album in a row, following 1995's monster hit Cracked Rear View. Rucker's album is his second in a row to debut at #1 on the Top Country Albums chart. Learn To Live spent its first two weeks at #1 in September 2008. Rucker has thus equaled Hootie's achievement of landing back-to-back #1 albums, albeit on different charts. It's not easy to build a second career in a different format. You probably know that Rucker has achieved greater success in the country market than any African American artist since Charley Pride. But Pride never cracked the top 10 on the Billboard 200. His highest-charting album was Just Plain Charley, which hit #22 in 1970. Rucker's first-week tally includes 32,000 digital copies. That makes it #1 on this week's Digital Albums chart. It's only the second country album to top that chart this year, following a Johnny Cash album in February. Big Time Rush's debut album BTR enters the chart at #3. The teen-dream quartet stars in the comedy TV series of the same name, which debuted on Nickelodeon in November 2009. This is the second time this year that the star of a Nickelodeon TV show has made the top 10 with their first album. Miranda Cosgrove's Sparks Fly bowed (and peaked) at #8 in May. (Cosgrove starred in iCarly, which debuted on the channel in 2007.) BTR is the week's #1 soundtrack, according to Nielsen/SoundScan. The top soundtrack to a theatrically-released movie is The Social Network, which rebounds from #109 to #70 in its third week. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross composed the music. Eminem's Recovery dips to #5 in its 17th week in the top 10. That's a nice birthday present from Eminem's fans to the rap star, who turned 38 on the last day of the tracking period. Taio Cruz's "Dynamite" this week tops the 3 million mark in paid downloads. The song has sold 3,087,000 digital copies, which is even more than Cruz's first hit, "Break Your Heart" (featuring Ludacris), which has sold 3,049,000. This must be especially gratifying to Cruz because this time he did it without a superstar assist. Both songs are featured on Cruz's album Rokstarr, which has sold a disappointing 128,000 copies. "Like A G6" by Far*East Movement featuring The Cataracs & Dev dips to #2 on Hot Digital Songs. The song sold 223,000 downloads this week, bringing its 17-week total to 1,397,000. The Asian-American act's album, Free Wired, enters the Billboard 200 this week at a mediocre #24. It sold just 17,000 copies. (That's two items in a row about acts with massive singles and modest-selling albums. Yikes). Thirteen songs from Glee are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by a version of "Lucky" by Chord Overstreet and Dianna Agron which debuts at #13. The original version by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat re-enters the chart at #75. It has sold 1,642,000 copies to date. It won a Grammy in February as Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals. Shameless Plug: The Glee version of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" tops the 1 million mark in paid downloads this week. It's the first Glee recording to reach that plateau. On Friday, I'll have a Chart Watch Extra in which I count down the top 20 Glee songs with the most paid downloads. Gleeks of the world, let your Gleek flag fly. Check it out on Friday. Here's the rest of the top 10 on Hot Digital Songs. Nelly's "Just A Dream" rebounds from #5 to #3 (170K). Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are" dips from #3 to #4 (165K). Rihanna's "Only Girl (In The World)" jumps from #6 to #5 (157K). P!nk's "Raise Your Glass" vaults from #59 to #6 (129K). Flo Rida featuring David Guetta's "Club Can't Handle Me" holds at #7 for the third week (119K). Usher featuring Pitbull's "DJ Got Us Falling In Love" holds at #8 for the second week (109K). Trey Songz featuring Nicki Minaj's "Bottom Up" jumps from #11 to #9 (107K). Taio Cruz's "Dynamite" holds at #10 for the second week (105K). Cee-Lo Green's "F**k You (Forget You)" holds at #1 in the U.K. for the second week. It holds at #12 on Hot Digital Songs. Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 albums. 1. Lil Wayne, I Am Not A Human Being, 125,000. The album rebounds from #16 to #1 in its third week. Eight songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Right Above It" (featuring Drake), which holds at #28. 2. Darius Rucker, Charleston, SC 1966, 101,000. This new entry is Rucker's fifth top 10 album (counting three ‘90s releases with Hootie & the Blowfish). Three songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "This," which debuts at #48. 3. Big Time Rush, BTR, 67,000. This new entry is the teen quartet's debut album. Two songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs. "Til I Forget About You" jumps rom #109 to #79. "Boyfriend" debuts at #157. 4. The Band Perry, The Band Perry, 53,000. This new entry is the country family trio's first full-length album. The act consists of sister Kimberly and brothers Reid and Neil. "If I Die Young" jumps from #24 to #18 in its 17th week on Hot Digital Songs. 5. Eminem, Recovery, 50,000. The former #1 album dips from #4 to #5 in its 17th week. Three songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Love The Way You Lie" (featuring Rihanna), which dips from #13 to #14. 6. Kenny Chesney, Hemingway's Whiskey, 40,000. The former #1 album drops from #2 to #6 in its third week. "Boys Of Fall" drops from #55 to #68 in its 11th week on Hot Digital Songs. 7. Sufjan Stevens, The Age Of Adz, 36,000. This new entry is Stevens' first top 10 album. His previous highest-charting title, the All Delighted People EP, reached #27 earlier this year. 8. Zac Brown Band, You Get What You Give, 34,000. The former #1 album drops from #5 to #8 in its fourth week. Two songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs. "As She's Walking Away" (featuring Alan Jackson) jumps from #65 to #64. "Free" drops from #152 to #169. 9. Toby Keith, Bullets In The Gun, 30,000. The former #1 album drops from #1 to #9 in its second week. 10. All That Remains, ...For We Are Many, 29,000. This new entry is the metal band's first top 10 album. Overcome peaked at #16 in 2008. Six albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Bruno Mars' Doo-Wops & Hooligans drops from #3 to #12, Waka Flocka Flame's Flockaveli drops from #6 to #21, Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns drops from #7 to #11, Katy Perry's Teenage Dream drops from #8 to #16, Trey Songz' Passion, Pain & Pleasure drops from #9 to #13, and Selena Gomez & the Scene's A Year Without Rain drops from #10 to #14. Belle & Sebastian's Write About Love debuts at #15. It's the veteran Scottish band's highest-charting album to date. Its previous highest-charting album was 2006's The Life Pursuit, which peaked at #65. Lady Antebellum's A Merry Little Christmas bows at #23. The set is very likely to become the trio's third top five album. (Linda Ronstadt had a chart album with the same title in 2000.)...Michael W. Smith's It's A Wonderful Christmas vaults from #179 to #54. The 2009 album is #1 on this week's Catalog Albums chart. These are the week's top two holiday albums. Robbie Williams this week lands his 12th #1 album in the U.K. (counting three with the boy band Take That). Williams achieves the feat with his new compilation In And Out Of Consciousness, Greatest Hits 1990-2010. Williams hasn't had nearly as much success in the U.S. His highest-charting solo album (Escapology) peaked at #43. The pop charts in the U.S. and the U.K. often agree, but they diverge on this 36-year old Englishman. Jackass 3-D was #1 at the box-office over the weekend. The movie grossed $50,354,000, nearly twice as much as the second installment in the series, Jackass: Number Two, which bowed at #1 in September 2006. The soundtrack sold fewer than 1,000 copies this week, too few to make The Billboard 200. Coming Attractions: Next week, Sugarland's The Incredible Machine and Kings of Leon's Come Around Sundown will duke it out for #1. Both acts sold more than 2 million copies of their last studio albums. Two TV soundtracks will also do battle: Glee: The Rocky Horror Glee Show and Miley Cyrus' Hannah Montana Forever. Also due: Rod Stewart's Fly Me To The Moon: The Great American Songbook, Vol. 5, Elton John/Leon Russell's The Union, Bob Dylan's Witmark Demo: 1962-1966 (Bootleg Series Vol. 9), Shakira's Sale El Sol and Third Day's Move.
