"Cry", the single, is actually my favorite single of hers. I think the release of "One" ruined that era. It was more R&B than country. I'd like to have another "Cry" single, along with songs like Breathe. I agree that "Mississippi Girl" was calculated, much like the Shania Twain singles "I Ain't No Quitter" and "Party for Two" were (although those two didn't fare as well). I hope they focus on creating good music, instead of focussing on the genre.

I haven't listened to much of her country stuff, but her AC stuff is really good. I hope she puts out more singles like "Cry", "Breathe", "The Way You Love Me", and "This Kiss". P.S. Fireflies was her 6th studio album, but then she came out with the Christmas album. So is this technically her 8th album, or do Christmas albums not count as part of her regular albums?

I hope her new album is along the same lines as Fireflies, which is easily my favourite album of hers. I really thought that we would have seen a new album in 2010. Hopefully we get one in the first half of 2011.

I love Faith's cover of Loretta's Love Is The Foundation on the Loretta tribute album.

I wonder if she really will have a new album out in 2011. I haven't heard anything new.

I read that she's shown interest in covering Elizabeth Cook's 'Girlfriend Tonight' for the upcoming album over at the 9513. I really hope that comes to fruition. The woman that you thought was good as gone Is just covered up by all life’s little wrongs I still remember how to turn you onFaith would kill this. Carrie would, too. But...she won't sing about sexxx like that.

I've never been much of a Faith fan, aside from the obvious songs. "Breathe" is a masterpiece, as is "Stealing Kisses."
However, the woman is super talented and needs to make a comeback. It'd be just like the early 2000s if her, Shania, and even Lee Ann Womack hit radio again.

Is this that same boss bitch who wrote that song after some random fan tried to touch her husband's junk at a concert: "I don't want your pity; just don't touch what's miiiiine" ??? She's gangster! That song was hot.

That song was hot. I can't tell if you're joking or not, but the song you're talking about is "Cry" which was years before that incident. And the lyrics are "I don't want pity, I just want what is mine."

I'd love it if all four of these ladies came back with nice hits on country radio, along with pop mixes that get success on Adult Contemporary, Hot Adult Contemporary, and maybe even a little CHR too.

Another update, but it's from Wikipedia, so I don't know how reliable it is:
Faith will also be entering the studio with pop producer Brian Kennedy in January 2011 to complete the album.

A new Faith song was played during the closing credits of the movie Life As We Know It.
Supposedly it was pulled from the movie's soundtrack and held for Faith's new album. Another site also claims that it was written and produced by Ryan Tedder. Not sure if that one is true, but it does sound like one of his.

Wow, she must really be going the pop route this time if she's recording with Kennedy and Tedder. I, for one, am not complaining. I think Cry had a lot of spectacular moments, and I hate when good music gets compromised in order to pander to genres.

That song is s**t. Brian Kennedy's bio confirms that he's working with Faith: Among his current projects are Whitney Houston, Rihanna, Leona Lewis, Natasha Bedingfield, Tiffany Evans, Backstreet Boys, Corbin Bleu, Jordin Sparks, Boa, Livvi Frank and current X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, as well as country performers Carrie Underwood and Faith Hill.

That bio is 2-3 years old.He worked with Carrie on Play on.
I wouldn't put much stock in him working with Faith on the new cd.

I don't mind it, but I hope it's not indicitive of what to expect on the album. Pop radio isn't going to play her, and country won't be too happy if her new album is pop leaning like that.

Does anyone know how her crossover singles from the late 90s/early 2000s performed on the CHR chart? Mostly talking about "Breathe", "This Kiss", "The Way You Love Me", and "Cry". Her style is definitely not what is popular on pop radio right now, everything seems to be leaning toward that autotuned-electro-dance style music, and I definitely don't see Faith doing that no matter how "pop" you think her new album will be lol. But maybe she can be the one to bring back some actual music to the CHR format. :)
I don't even care if she gets played on CHR, but it would be nice to hear some new Faith songs on the Adult Contemporary stations, aside from country.

"Cry" came close to charting, but I'm pretty sure that it stalled in the 50s on CHR.
I have her CHR peaks being 12, 8, 19 and 22, but that's probably R&R vs. Billboard.

www.cmt.com/news/country-music/1657264/faith-hill-talks-about-crossroads-the-pretenders-and-her-next-album.jhtmlThe Pretenders' "I'll Stand by You" may be the perfect song for CMT Crossroads: The Pretenders and Faith Hill Live From Pepsi Super Bowl Fan Jam. The episode, which teams the pioneering rock band with soulful country superstar Faith Hill, will premiere live from Grand Prairie, Texas, on Saturday (Feb. 5) at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Just a few days prior to the performance, the self-proclaimed "Mississippi Girl" talked with CMT Insider producer Tim Hardiman about singing with rock legend Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders, working on a new album and making sure she's keeping it real.
CMT: Why was it compelling for you to join forces with Chrissie and the Pretenders on CMT Crossroads? Did they have a big impact on you when you were growing up?
Hill: I definitely listened to the Pretenders when I was growing up. "Brass in Pocket," my gosh, when I was in high school, that was like the big anthem. I think that's such great music. She has such a distinctive voice and is a stylist. Her writing is similar to country music writing, in a way. If you get down into the lyrics of these songs, it's really kind of a little reminiscent of Johnny Cash in some parts. ... She has a great energy and a nice edge, but yet has a real appreciation for country music. I mean, she's from Akron, Ohio (laughs), which she sings proudly about in one of her songs. It's gonna be fun. I'm looking forward to it.
How do you go about picking that set list? Have you already hammered that out?
We have. We have hammered the set list out. I won't reveal all of it right now, but the two for sure are "Brass in Pocket" and "I'll Stand by You," which I think is one of the greatest songs ever written. I'm really excited to sing that song, as well.
Are you still working on your next album?
Yes. Right in the middle of it. Smack dab in the middle. We haven't made it to the studio yet, but it's coming.
What was it like to get back in that process of picking songs to record? It's been six years since the last album, so what was it like kind of re-entering that world?
I've actually been in the studio a couple of times in the last six years. I'm just trying to find that spark, that thing that's exciting for me ... and that feels inspired and true and honest, from an honest place. It's been a creative journey. I actually have been in the studio, but no one's really heard anything. (laughs) But that's going to be the nice part -- to actually get it finished and get it out there for people to hear.
Are you anxious for people to hear what you've been working on?
I'm not anxious yet, because it's not finished yet. (laughs) But when it comes closer to the time, I will definitely be. ... I'm ready to be onstage. To do this show on Saturday night just gives me the bug again. I've never lost that part of it.
Why was it important for you to take that time off in between albums?
I didn't really intend to take this much time off in between albums. Like I say, I have actually recorded possibly a couple of albums in the six years. But it's important for it to be the right thing for me musically. It's just the process. It's like a rediscovery. And in the midst of rediscovery, it just takes time. I didn't even realize it had been that long, to be honest with you, until someone told me that. And I even argued with them. At the time it was five years, and I said, "It's not been five years since I had a record!" "Yeah, it has been." (laughing). But that's OK. I want it to be really good and represent me. I want it to be real.

"I have actually recorded possibly a couple of albums in the six years." Since we know it's not her voice, which I think is golden, the material must've been awful or different. (Perhaps, the GH's extra are an indication.) It's unfortunate that artists of Faith's stature can't take chances and see what happens. I happened to find quite a few songs on Cry quite good, but it's viewed as a disappointment -- probably because it followed Breathe and was so obviously pop.

tasteofcountry.com/faith-hill-new-album-2011/Faith Hill seems close to finally ending her six-year absence from record store bins this year, as she is currently “smack dab in the middle” of working on a new album that she hopes to release in 2011.
The singer first tells CMT “we haven’t made it to the studio yet, but it’s coming,” only to quickly correct herself. “I actually have been in the studio, but no one’s really heard anything. That’s going to be the nice part — to actually get it finished and get it out there for people to hear.”
Hill also reports she is ”ready to be onstage” again as well. She seemed inspired by the prospect of this weekend’s (now-aired) ‘CMT: Crossroads’ live televised performance with Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders: “To do this show on Saturday night just gives me the bug again. I’ve never lost that part of it.”
Working on the new record has been a bit of a journey for Hill, who says, ”I’m just trying to find that spark, that thing that’s exciting for me … and that feels inspired and true and honest, from an honest place. It’s been a creative journey.”
As for why it’s been six years since we had a studio record from her, Hill says, ”I didn’t really intend to take this much time off in between albums. But it’s important for it to be the right thing for me musically. It’s just the process. It’s like a rediscovery. And in the midst of rediscovery, it just takes time. I want it to be really good and represent me. I want it to be real.”
She further explained the long break in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal. “I’m the mother of three daughters, and a wife, and that’s what my priority is. I work on records when I can.” As for when we will finally be able to hear that new music, Hill says, “I hope this year.”
To date, Hill has notched eight No. 1 singles, three No. 1 country albums and has sold over 40 million records worldwide.

The concert with the Pretenders was a mess. Chrissie Hynde kept screwing up and forgetting the lyrics to Faith's songs, and they just didn't sound that good together.
I am interested to hear new music from Faith! I'm assuming it'll have a pretty Country sound.

I think the second part is the correct one. It's just her sense of humor. lol I really honestly don't think she meant it. I know these posts are a few months old but I still can't believe that people actually thought (and still think) she was serious. She did the EXACT same reaction at an award show like a year earlier when she and Tim were nominated for the same award and he won. She did the whole 'feigned shock' thing and pretended to be pissed at him. Then in some post-show interview that Tim was doing, she was pretending to cuss him out in the background. Whether people find it funny or not, it's definitely just her joking.

Whether people find it funny or not, it's definitely just her joking. Yes, but Tim is her husband so her joking with him like that is understandable. At the time of the CMA incident, I don't think Faith and Carrie were friends, or even knew each other. So to have that kind of reaction toward someone you don't even know, wouldn't come across as a joke. For example, if Carrie had that reaction to Brad Paisley winning an award over her, it would make sense because they are friends and everyone would know she is kidding. Faith and Carrie were not friends at the time. I'm pretty sure Faith let her emotions inside get the best of her, and then tried to play it off as a joke after seeing how she embarrassed herself and how people were upset with her. I like Faith, and I understand that everyone has their bad moments, so I'm over it since it is kind of old news now. But yeah, I don't think she was kidding when she did it.

This is the most recent news I could find. We might not be getting the lead single for a while, it seems: www.reuters.com/article/2011/02/12/us-faithhill-idUSTRE71B0BT20110212Faith Hill returning to studio in March
By Gary Graff Fri Feb 11, 2011 11:34pm EST DETROIT (Billboard) - Faith Hill is making "steady" progress toward her next album and plans to return to the studio in March for another round of recording. But don't expect to hear anything until it meets some pretty high standards.
"I would like to have a record out," Hill told Billboard.com, "but it hasn't been the right thing yet. I don't want it to be just another record. It's a lot of work to support a record, so I just want it to be... really great. I want it to represent where I am as a woman. I don't want it to be fake. I want it to be authentic and real."
Hill's last album of all new material, the double-platinum "Fireflies," debuted atop the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums chart in 2005. She followed it with "The Hits" in 2007 and the holiday set "Joy to the World" in 2008.
Hill acknowledged that "the pendulum has shifted a bit in my priorities... since the birth of my children," and job number one now is raising her three daughters with Tim McGraw -- Gracie, 13, Maggie, 12, and Audrey, nine.
"It's changed how I do my business and everything," Hill explained. "I feel very blessed I'm able to stay home with my kids. My husband works really hard and I'm a wife and that's the path that I've chosen. The other things that I do really have to fit in around that. I've been working (on an album) for awhile, but it just takes a little bit longer. And that's okay."
With that in mind, Hill is tight-lipped regarding details about her recording sessions.
