Wait. You mean I still could have been voting for "Nightmare" all this time, just because I don't pay attention to what goes recurrent on the Active and Rock charts?? That song (my #1 for 2010) has been in my Top 10 ever since we've been doing these composite charts, and I guarantee you it's always been higher than whatever song I put down in here for #5 each week.

Dude, why don't you pay attention to active? Your two favorite bands do way better on active rock than on alternative (especially with non-lead singles), and your local alternative station is essentially an active rock station in disguise. Well maybe not quite, but it certainly functions dually as St. Louis's alt/active station, as it should given it's a big market with only one radio station playing current rock music given the recent demise of your other lesser-known alt station.

I look over the charts each week, but I don't keep track of those two or notice when songs go recurrent. There's way too much mediocre, simpler hard rock on the format that soaks up the bulk of the airplay for me to put up with it. And as much as I love the airtime that my local station gives to Avenged (and to a lesser extent, all the Tool hits I rarely want the radio to play for me anymore), as well as very specific bands/songs that I'm guessing most Alt stations would never touch during the day, I hate that they play so much "Active Rock" at the expense of "Alternative" acts/songs I'd much rather be hearing like Paramore, Coldplay, and MGMT, to name three, whose most recent hits were ignored.

And that's why I loved my "secondary" Alt station so much, whenever I could get the signal (usually only in the car). They played everything (very light on the heavier bands, usually) and for the most part, the recurrents and golds weren't stale. They went under last year, but I heard them come back under a new name and frequency when I was traveling around Christmas. Can't get the signal at home, though, once again.

With "My Best Theory" not going recurrent last week like it should have, it looks like my window for putting The National's "Terrible Love" into the Top 5 is closing. I'm sorry, I can't ignore the numbers on my personal chart just to throw an underdog on here. "You've Seen the Butcher" and "Tighten Up" both leapfrogged it this week. And those are healthily (imaginary) bulleted songs on my chart, so even if I pounded High Violet into my brain this next week, I'm not sure that would even help. :(
