So I've been thinking a bit about this question... on the one hand, all the promotion of Mariah's new Christmas album will remind people that the first one is out there. Plus Sony are likely to send extra copies or heavily discount the album to cash in on all the free promo they'll be getting. In fact, the album's already been lowered to $7.99 on Itunes and $5 on Amazon mp3.
However, you could also argue that people who may have decided to buy the first one will just go for the new one instead, especially since it contains a nearly identical version of AIWFCIY.
And on the other hand, it might not make any difference at all. Thoughts?

I think so, I think it will actually help it.
Customers who didn't know she had a first one will probably purchase it.

Yes it will affect sales of the first and it will also not sell as much as the first

If the singles chart is any indication the new album won't make much of a difference

Yes it will affect sales of the first and it will also not sell as much as the first I can't imagine that MCIIU will ever sell as much as the first, but during this holiday season I'd say MCIIU will definitely outsell the first. It would only have to do 100-200k which should be easy.

They should go up, but probably not by a significant amount...

It'll probably go down a bit, as some people who were originally gonna purchase the first one will go for the second, newer one instead.

For this year, I think sales of the original will go up. Over time, I think the original will sell less than it would have otherwise.

I think it'll help the first album. I don't expect Merry Christmas II You to sell very much, unfortunately.
