I have to say Usher's "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love" has held up remarkably well, considering the amount of additional singles he has charting simultaneously and the lackluster sales for "Versus". Bruno Mars may be falling short of the total audience record, but there's no doubt he would be breaking it had the single started moving up AC radio sooner. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus im not sure id consider versus sales lackluster. you cant really follow gagas example for the new ep situation, maybe that was a fluke. versus could be doing just fine and maybe most eps like this will have similar results. it should cross 200k not too bad i guess. my opinion on rihanna. im fine with OG and WMN both on radio right now, but LTWYL couldve waited at least another 2 weeks, for when the album came out. they shouldnt have leaked it (or shoulda kept it safer, if it wasnt suppose to be leaked) . i think 3 songs gaining is a little much. OG, LTWYL, WMN all getting great airplay. LTWYL 2 is starting and kanyes new single features rihanna. add all her older songs/features. too much i just think Part 2 shoudlve waited till album release aka only girl peaking/falling For an artist of his scope and stature, regardless, I think "Versus" is clearly underperforming considering it has spawned this big hit, along with the decent-sized hit "Hot Tottie". EP or not, Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus were able to elevate their EP releases to great commercial successes, so Usher really lacks an excuse here. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus I actually don't think it's under performing honestly. I guess I didn't have the same expectations for it that I did for other artists. Considering how shaky the start of the Versus era was.

Aren't the new Usher tracks also available on the reissue of Raymond vs. Raymond? How has Versus performed in comparison to the prior album? That album hasn't done too badly in comparison to his prior album. Obviously Usher's not going to see anything close to Confessions-like success again.

I agree with you, but it makes me sad 'cause he's Usher - two albums ago he sold diamond, had monsterous hits, he was considered the king of RnB! even if Here I Stand wasn't successful, Love In This Club was and to me still is great. This era around he's had many hits, yet his album sales are identical to his previous album, in spite of the hits. What went wrong? is it the general industry state, or Usher has lost it? I think that radio wise - he's still in control. Something's putting off the buyers. I hope it's the current trend of Dance/Auto-tune and after that he'll get back to selling bucket-loads.

The problem (i had) with Raymond vs Raymond is that it has a lot of great songs but just doesn't work as an album. I cant sit and listen to all the songs at once. its not very consistent.

Usher's reaching a nice point in his career. He was getting better and better (commercially) until 'Confessions.' Now he's on the backside of his peak. That was his 'Purple Rain,' 'Thriller,' 'Born in The USA' moment and he will likely never re-capture that. But the fact that he's still commercially viable at all 6 years later is a good sign.
He will probably have ups and downs and reach a point in the next decade (as he hits his 40s) where he can't get mainstream pop airplay at all. But at this point he will always be well-known and be able to tour off of his mammoth catalog of hits. It's a normal career trajectory for someone of his stature, and something he and his fans should feel really happy about.

When I do homework I pop a CD in and listen to it while I'm doing my work. *jamming to Miranda Lambert's Revolution right now* And your way of thinking is why album sales are so low now. Albums use to tell a story, people listened to every track, now a days you like 3-4 songs and the rest are usually garbage and you end up just buying the songs you like.

I forgot there isn't supposed to be a cohesive aspect to an album at all. Just skipping.

People have other competing entertainment interests as well. So if you spend all of your time listening to albums you have to cut off those. News flash albums always only had three good tracks on them....if that. That's nothing new. Most albums don't even have that.

Whoever said that Rihanna's "Only Girl" was peaking is crazy.. the song still has potential to climb. I really wish it would be #1 on the Hot 100 and not that crap "What's My Name?" garbage. I'm disappointed that it will probably peak higher than OG.

I'm disappointed that it will probably peak higher than OG. At first I preferred WMN over OG, but I've burned out on it. OG has a slower burn rate for me and I feel will have more longevity in the long run. Speaking of Usher, I don't see how RvR underperformed? The only big hit of his singles was OMG. The other ones HDLF, and TGMB were just moderate hits. 1M+ for the album is OK but I don't think it generated enough interest for the people to buy the deluxe or EP like say The Fame or GGGB. As much as a hit DGUFIL was, it was nowhere near a good lead single should be and it felt like it was just carrying on OMG's sound

I find music most enjoyable when listening to a full length albums. For example while driving, working on the computer or just to have in the background when doing something. The first thing i do when i get an album is play it in its entirety. Yes you might not like a few songs to begin with but they might incidentally grow on you with more listens.

It's OK to say "albums have only three good tracks on them"
People who say that generally judge the quality of an album by the # of pop hits rather than personal taste.
It is unfortunate to think that way though I think, because you are then letting others dictate to you what you like and don't like.

Unless you just have no life at all why would you ever sit and listen to every song on an album at once? Lots of reasons - first thing that comes to mind is you are driving somewhere that takes longer than the length of the CD? How often are people really doing that unless they are truck drivers or traveling sales people?
