Nelly Furtado has had what...4 or 5 hits? That may be why this isn't selling. The price of a full disk or 2 for the deluxe edition is a lot of money for 4 songs. Quoting this again for those who didn't read all my posts Charging for the price of a full disk (STANDARD EDITION) or two CDs for the DELUXE EDITION is a lot for 4 or 5 hits This may be why it is not selling

The definition of a "hit" is different to everyone. Either way, the disc (not disk...) is full of "hits". It really is no different than many other people who have released this. They are also paying for 3 brand new songs.

A "hit" for the purposes of this discussion would be a song that charts on the Hot 100. Since this forum is based on that, that would seem to be a good place to start. I count six tracks on the "greatest hits album" that charted at all Promiscuous, Nelly Furtado Featuring Timbaland 1 Say It Right, Nelly Furtado 1 Turn Off The Light, Nelly Furtado 5 I'm Like A Bird, Nelly Furtado 9 Maneater, Nelly Furtado 16 All Good Things (Come To An End), Nelly Furtado 86 Including "All Good Things" which charted at #86 There are 17 songs on the standard edition 11 songs of filler, 6 hits (really 5) Maybe that is why this album is not charting? In my opinion, a "greatest hits" album should have "hits" on it, if it is expected to sell. There are not enough recognizable songs to likely attract people in large numbers to spend 12 dollars (or whatever) on a "greatest hits" album Obviously something happened, it moved less than 2000 copies opening week, where other "hits" albums charted much higher. Just a theory..... If I "don't know what I am talking about" Got another explanation?

It's not a greatest hits. It's a best of. It sounds stupid but there is a difference. She's not claiming to have had a lot of hits - you could release a best of without having released any singles at all. Best of implies they are her best songs quality wise, not success wise.

Mark this one down I don't usually agree with one of your posts ;) Still doesn't change my point though One possible reason why this isn't selling well enough to chart is that there is a lack of recognizable songs on it. For a "best of" or a "greatest hits" the ones that sell well are loaded with recognizable songs.

WOW, that's pretty low for someone who had a huge era with 'Loose' but it's no surprise either, since she has yet to promote something in the US since 'All Good Things'.

It's true a GH/Best of would need recognizable songs to sell, but I think the more important lesson here is that the "nobody cares about XY artist, but their fans buy everything s/he releases" notion is not as strong as some imply for other acts. I know it's a very different situation but I think last year Tina Turner's live album debuted with less than 3,000 copies sold, despite the successful tour and her legend status (which implies a bigger fanbase). Anyway, it's out today in the UK, we'll see if it cracks the top 100 (that would be ~2,000+ copies sold as well).

Her biggest problem is that it's been over three years since her previous appearance on a big hit (Give It to Me).
No recent success -> people have forgotten her (except the fans obviously)
