Why are some many people referring to the current Katy Perry single in the plural? A number of people around me, on separate occasions this holiday weekend, called it "Fireworks" instead of "Firework." it is rather strange.

I think it's because people typically don't often use Firework in it's singular form. "Let's go buy a firework" "We are gonna shoot and watch a firework". lol And a lot of singular nouns aren't usually mentioned without "a" or "the" or something before it. It's like naming a song "Dog" instead of "A Dog" or "The Dog." It just sounds weird.

WHAT? she barely has fans here. It doesn't take a lot of fans to spam threads and turn people off to her. They can ignore the post if they don't want people to talk about Rihanna. Not to mention it's not just the fans that bring up Rihanna conversation it's also the non-fans and everyone in between. In the most recent case, it was a known troll that was bringing up Rihanna and made more of an issue out of her success than had to be made so it turned the topic into another Rihanna thread.

I think Rihanna's stanning team on Pulse is pretty equivalent or arguably less than most of the pop divas on here. A lot of the discussion right now in regards to her is directly related to the charts biggest stories. Lately, Billboard has been posting articles listing her position on life-time charts compared to other "chart legends". People are gonna to discuss it and fans are naturally going to be excited at this time.

Rihanna = legend :'( Haters stay pressed. No offense, but it's reading things like this that bother me. I know this has already been debated, but it's annoying to hear people call her a "legend" - to me, THAT is over the top. I know she's had chart success, but that doesn't mean she's widely respected by the public or considered a legend. Sorry, not trying to open a can of worms, but that's what I mean when I say fans (or stans) go overboard. And people throw around the term "hater" way too loosely here. It just seems like a fan insecurity or something. I agree with you Adonis that she is on the charts and doing well, so it's expected to be discussed. But the way her stans post about her is SUCH a turn-off. Makes me cringe when I see her or hear her music because her stans taint it for me.

Junkie's post was meant to be over-the-top. You should probably avoid message boards if it gets to you that much - because it happens with all the divas

I have posted on message boards for 10 years and think I will be just fine But if you wonder why there's "so many haters on pulse" - which is what somebody stated earlier in the thread and the stans claim in countless posts - maybe this explains it.

So what if Rilegend has haters. It's not her fault Rilegend is at the tip of Billboard's tongue every week because of her amazing and legendary chart feats. Everytime an artist hits #1 or is close to hitting #1 you are going to have people talking about it. That's never going to change. You just need to get used to it.

It aint that serious g0rl. Billboard is the one putting her among the greats on those lists. If you're the type of person that lets 2 stans control your emotins when you see or hear her.... chile....

Billboard is putting her among the greats on the lists? As we all should know, the lists represent chart stats- has nothing to do with how "great" an act is.
Looking at the total No. 1 hits an act has shows just how the charts and greatness do not go hand and hand. For instance- and I use this kind of example often- Rihanna has 9 No. 1 hits; Aretha Franklin has 2. I don't think anyone would dare mention Rihanna's name in the same breath as the Queen of Soul when talking about great artists. And many of these kinds of contrasts exist. A list of acts with the most No. 1 hits (or any level of hits) is not meant to represent their greatness of anything of the sort. Some acts with a high number of hits are considered among the "greats"; others, not so much.
I do admit that it does great a tad annoying to see some of these posts cponstantly touting this one or that one as "legends," when they're really not- but unlike some who have no problem stating they have an issue with what I post, I don't say anything, as it's a free country and not that serious, right? :) If one wants to add "chart" in front of the word "legend," I would have less issue with it.

Pretty please don't discuss each other in public threads and, once again, if you have a board concern, please PM me or another staff member or use the Report to Mod feature. While we are not around 24/7, we do respond to all concerns as soon as possible.

It really amuses me how some people in here like to have an "objective" measure for everything. It's music, dudes! Some people need to just chill.
What difference does it make if I call Rihanna a legend or not? Just keep her in your own s**t lists and let the rest of us be. It's not like we're trolling other artist's threads, like some other stans do. It's OBVIOUS we're gonna be here celebrating her chart success. Same will happen when any other diva does. Just wait until Mariah, Britney, Bey or Gaga obtain a new hit... this is going to be TRUE mayhem.
And for those who might not be familiar with it, Pulse now offers the "Ignore user" feature. :)
Now please, let's go back to discussing the Hot 100. I really hope P!nk gets it this week! ;)

It's great to see Katy Perry doing so well, no sophomore slump for her. California Girls, Teenage Dream, and now it's looking like Firework will go #1.

California Girls, Teenage Dream, and now it's looking like Firework will go #1. *cough*albums sales*cough* But yeah, the fact that she'll probably have three straight #1 from an album is very impressive. She's had six out of seven singles in her career go top 10, which isn't bad at all.

so, in a week or so Rihanna should be on top, what is even funnier though is that she'll probably be the one who's gonna replace herself with WMN.

The ultimate example is "The Twist" which hit number on two separate chart runs roughly a year or so apart. More recently, I think "Live Your Life" was knocked out of #1 for a month before returning. This is an example of a re-release though. JTWYA is still in its original chart run, and if it returns to #1, it would have had a 6-week interruption. "Live Your Life" had a three-week interruption. (4 weeks total interruption since it rebounded twice.) FEM had a 2-week interruption. Nelly's Dilemma in 2002 had a 2-week interruption. Alicia Keys' Fallin' and J.Lo's I'm Real both had a 3-week interruption in 2001 when they see-sawed all summer at the top. Boyz II Men had a 2-week interruption in 1993 with On Bended Knee. Ace of Base had a 4 week interruption in 1994, when "The Sign" slid behind R. Kelly's "Bump 'N' Grind". It then returned for two more weeks. Oddly, that was the first song to slip from number one then return since Men At Work's "Down Under" in early 1983. Over a decade passed between them! With digital spikes it seems much more common these days.
