I was just trying to be witty. Hopefully i didnt come off as insulting to areyoureadytojump. He's one of the best posters on this forum. I was mainly commenting for the ones who thought i was crazy for saying Eminem had it locked up in the past month or two. Also im not shocked Recovery isnt certified yet. They are probably waiting till it hit's 4,000,000. It's still doing at least 40K a week. As long as it's doing 25K or above a week i think they will wait it out till it hit's 4,000,000. Are you insane? No one thought you were crazy. It was ALWAYS likely that Eminem would end up #1, but there was the possibility that Taylor could have also taken it. Good lord. Yes, Eminem was always the leading candidate. I am not disputing that either. He was saying as early as August that Eminem has it locked. The fact that it is headed that way now does not mean it was locked in August. Taylor Swift could have followed up the million+ week with several weeks above 500K (much like Susan Boyle did last year) then his comments would look rather foolish. Granted it did not happen that way but, that does not mean it was "locked" 2 months or so ago. The possibility always existed that something could have overtaken it. Should just let him gloat & move on. |

It is not a fact that it was locked two months ago.
It is a fact that Recovery was always the leading candidate but things could have happened to tip the scales in a different direction
It didn't but that possibility always existed and was more than just remote since such a scenario has happened before.

True, Whatever is a good way to put it. I couldn't care less. What i care more about is I just want The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show certified Diamond. That won't ever happen but i can hope.

The record labels pay for certifications. For some reason Interscope don't seem to care about it. Unless they just don't want to be audited.

Obviously you care...but more importantly you think they won't ever certify him Diamond. What is the process? I hope they just certify everyone's album correctly. labels have to pay for it. Also jj99$--, I thought about the auditing explanation but they certified Relapse 2X platinum. So that made me disregard that argument. Unless they audit tougher when they certify diamond? I mean Curtain Call has sold over 3 Million and it's still only Certified 2X platinum. Recovery is now over 3 Million and isnt Certified at all. Slim Shady LP and Encore have each sold over 5 Million and they are only certified 4X Platinum Each. MMLP has sold over 10 Million and is only certified 9X Platinum. The Eminem Show has sold over 9.85 Million and is only certified 8X platinum. So labels really don't care about correctly certifying albums. |

I would hope older albums, such as 1999 and older maintain accurate certification levels, since that is the most accurate measure of album sales but, for anything 2000 and newer, "going gold" or "going platinum" is largely irrelevant.

It would be nice to see people getting certified (especially diamond) for their sales, but those certifications being based on shipments dont give a real accurate representation of how popular an album is, especially going gold as its so low.
In 2008 nelly's album brass knuckles was certified gold because of all the hype from his last albums they shipped out 500k copies, but only 223k of those were actually sold, less than half!

Some fans claim A sold more than B, but some artist are really undercertified e.g Eminem and Janet Jackson. Most people look at certification as how much an album sold. Soundscan totals can be hard to find for older albums that aren't charting.

As SoundScan's preciseness has increased through the years, RIAA certs have become less prevalent for labels and even media, as far as newer titles. Why we see SoundScan figures cited for albums- particularly if an album, say, has scanned 1.7 million or more and is certified platinum- much more precise to report the 1.7 million figure than saying "certified for more than 1 million."
