Rihanna: 'Madonna is my biggest inspiration' Rihanna performed a cover of "Vogue" at Fashion Rocks a couple of years ago. That was pretty good, actually. T4P!

Rihanna: 'Madonna is my biggest inspiration'Thursday, July 21 2011By Lewis Corner, Music Reporter Rihanna has named Madonna as the pop icon who has inspired her the most. The 'California King Bed' star praised the 52-year-old singer for being able to continually reinvent herself successfully after three decades in the industry. When asked about her inspirations, Rihanna told We Love Pop: "I think that Madonna was a great inspiration for me, especially on my earlier later work." www.digitalspy.com/music/news/a330967/rihanna-madonna-is-my-biggest-inspiration.html Fixed. ^I agree. Unless Madonna had everything written and planned out already and now all she has to do is record. I just cannot wait for some new music and her movie.

I wonder why box-office mojo has W.E. listed as a romantic comedy??? I read the script and it's an enthralling drama.

She entered the studio 7/4, didn't she? Did she take time off in between then and now?

Reports: David Cronenberg, Roman Polanski and Madonna Heading To Venice Film Festivalby Peter Knegt While the official announcement won’t occur until Thursday, Variety is reporting what appears to be the majority of the lineup for the 2011 Venice Film Festival, including new works from David Cronenberg, Steven Soderbergh, Roman Polanski, Todd Solondz, Jonathan Demme, Alexander Sokurov, Mary Harron, William Friedkin and Madonna. They come in addition to the already announced “The Ides of March,” George Clooney’s political drama that will open the festival. The article also suggested that new films Walter Salles, Wong Kar Wai, Luc Besson, Brillante Mendoza and Fatih Akin will not be ready for the festival. Below is the full list of films the article notes (not listed is Soderbergh’s film, which isn’t explicitly noted in the Variety story though one can probably assume it’s “Contagion” and not “Haywire”). Read Variety‘s story here, and check back with indieWIRE Thursday when we’ll have the officially announced lineup. In Competition: “Alps,” directed by Yorgos Lanthimos “A Burning Hot Summer,” directed by Philippe Garrel “Carnage,” directed by Roman Polanski “A Dangerous Method,” directed by David Cronenberg “Dark Horse,” directed by Todd Solondz “The Exchange,” directed by Eran Kolirin “Faust,” directed by Alexander Sokurov “Himizu,” directed by Sion Sono “Killer Joe,” directed by William Friedkin “The Ides of March,” directed by George Clooney (Opening Night) “Last Day on Earth,” directed by Abel Ferrara “The Moth Diaries,” directed by Mary Harron “Poulet aux prunes,” directed by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud “Quando la notte,” directed by Cristina Comencini “Seediq Bale,” directed by Wei Te-sheng “Shame,” directed by Steve McQueen “Terraferma,” directed by Emanuele Crialese “Texas Killing Fields” directed by Ami Canaan Mann “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy,” directed by Tomas Alfredson “L’ultimo terrestre,” directed by Gipi “W.E.,” directed by Madonna“Wuthering Heights,” directed by Andrea Arnold Out of Competition: “La folie Almayer,” directed by Chantal Akerman Horizons section: “I’m Carolyn Parker: The Good, the Mad and the Beautiful,” directed by Jonathan Demme “Sal,” directed by James Franco www.indiewire.com/article/reports_david_cronenberg_roman_polanski_and_madonna_heading_venice_film_fes/Wow! I am so happy for Madonna!

I want new music just as much as everyone else, but can't help feel like it's being rushed. I'm also surprised she would want to push an album, during promotion of her movie. Then again, she'll have an excuse to not promote the new album.

Anything we hear is pure rumor. Guy O. said this is her second week in the studio, after starting July 4- so, it doesn't seem like she's in THAT much of a rush. I just hope she is writing for the album, and not just doing "Revolver"-type recordings= that would not be a good thing.
As a director, how much will she promote the movie? I mean, we see directors doing interviews and such that run on different outlets, but not really making the rounds like movie stars do.

She'll probably do a couple high profile interviews but then leave the typical promotional rounds to Abbie.

Toronto too? :)
Toronto Film Festival Lineup: Madonna, Clooney, Fassbender, and More 7/26/11 at 12:15 PM
Most of the lineup was just released for the 2011 Toronto Film Festival, and it's a barnburner. We've got Madonna's potentially awards-friendly directorial effort W.E., we've got George Clooney in Alexander Payne's The Descendants and in his own movie The Ides of March, and we've got Michael Fassbender in two sex dramas: David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method and Steve McQueen's Shame. The festival will also premiere highly anticipated movies like the Glenn Close gender-bender Albert Nobbs, the Brad Pitt sports flick Moneyball, Sarah Polley's Take This Waltz, the Kristen Wiig–Jon Hamm comedy Friends With Kids ... really, we could go on and on here. So much good stuff! But instead, we'll let you take a look at the promising lineup to draw your own conclusions.
.W.E. (Madonna) W.E. is a romantic exploration of the mysterious connection across decades between two women confronting the consequences of desire. Caught in a loveless Manhattan marriage, abused and frustrated Wally (Abbie Cornish) obsesses over Wallis Simpson (Andrea Riseborough), the stylish American divorcee who captured the heart of Edward the VIII (James D‟Arcy) who abdicated the throne as King of England. As the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis spends the rest of her life in the glare of celebrity exile. Inspired by the Duchess‟ determination to pursue love in the face of social exile, Wally escapes into the arms of another man (Oscar Isaac) whose love sets her free. Madonna and a world class team of collaborators present a passionate tale of the search for love and the meaning of happiness. W.E. (for Wallis and Edward, forever entwined in the love story of the 20th century) is a rich, cinematic portrayal of two strong women resolved to find romance.

Then again, she'll have an excuse to not promote the new album. What is rushed? Madonna nor her camp have said anything about a release date. You know how her fans love passing around rumors. It's all part of the new era, weeding through the truth and rumors. The only thing we do know is she is recording an album. Her direction or release date has not been revealed.

George Clooney, Brad Pitt & Madonna Set for Star-Studded Toronto Film Festivalby Gregory Imler Think film festivals are all about obscure indie dramas and oddball directors trying to stir up controversy? Think again. The lineup for this year's Toronto Film Festival is out and it's a veritable who's who of big-name, Hollywood star power. With summer beginning to wind down, it's time to start looking forward to fall, and from the looks of it, 2011 is not going to disappoint. So who should we be ready to feast our eyes on? First up, hope you like your George Clooney (who doesn't?), because he's starring in two films: The Ides of March, a drama that peeks behind the curtain of big-time politics costarring Ryan Gosling, and The Descendants, the story of a husband and father who must grapple with difficult life questions after his wife is involved in a boating accident. Looks like the guy really is gunning for that Best Actor Oscar. Not to be left out is George's close pal, Brad Pitt, headlining in Moneyball with Jonah Hill, the real-life story of Billy Beane, who transformed the Oakland A's baseball team into winners on a shoe-string budget. Think Friday Night Lights in the world of the big leagues...with Brad as Coach! And while she may not be appearing in front of the camera, Madonna is showing off her directing chops with W.E., a film about a young woman (Abby Cornish) who finds the courage to escape her own loveless relationship by drawing inspiration from Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII's headline-grabbing romance. Also making appearances are X-Men's Michael Fassbender, Michelle Williams, Blake Lively, Keira Knightley and Jude Law, just to name a few. If you're done with the summer blockbusters and are anxious to see your favorite A-listers doing what they do best up on the big screen, look no further. Tell us! Are you ready for a fall full of the hottest names in Hollywood? www.eonline.com/uberblog/b254538_george_clooney_brad_pitt_madonna_set.html?cmpid=rss-000000-rssfeed-365-topstories&utm_source=eonline&utm_medium=rssfeeds&utm_campaign=rss_topstoriesIt is so exciting!

According to wikipedia, Cher was 52 when Believe hit #1 on the Hot 100, making her the oldest female artist to do this.
Can M tie this record with the first single from the new album?

Cher was never as successful as Madonna, so "Believe" was a huge deal for her. Plus, it was such a worldwide success; so was "Hung Up," yet it "only" managed No. 7 in the USA. On top of that, U.S. radio has become even more ageist since "Believe." And to hit No. 1, Madonna would need a certain level of airplay, to go along with pretty decent sales.

There would be no "tying" as the older one would the get the record. You can't just look at 52, you have to consider how many weeks/months past 52 they both are/were. Madonna turns 53 on August 16, and she's not dropping a single before then. Thus if she ever gets another Hot 100 #1 she will break Cher's record. The overall record regardless of gender belongs to Louis Armstrong, and he will likely keep that record forever. He was 63 when "Hello, Dolly!" hit #1 on the Hot 100 in 1964.

And this isn't the potential record/achievement people should be talking about. If Madonna were to get another Hot 100 #1 she would become the first artist in the history of the Billboard charts to get a #1 single on their main singles chart in 4 different decades --- 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s.

i can't believe all the positive buzz her movie is getting. I haven't heard a single negative thing about it. Who would've thought? I'm happy for her. She'll be in the spotlight once again.
