Counting Crows - "Mr. Jones" Are you serious? You don't like any other Crows songs?

Counting Crows - "Mr. Jones" Are you serious? You don't like any other Crows songs? I haven't heard their whole back catalogue, obviously, but from what I've heard, yes. I found "Einstein" & "Round Here" pretty average, even though that album went platinum a gazillion times. I haven't heard anything other than material from their debut, actually. And I'm not even that keen on "Mr. Jones" tbh. Kinda weird I guess, considering Matchbox 20 & Sister Hazel are 2 of my favs.

Can't agree with that. Matchbox pummel them when it comes to album sales. Far stronger material for me, but we'll have to disagree on that one.

You haven't listened to the majority of the Crows' output and sales numbers are meaningless in a debate of quality. Listen to their albums post debut and see if you still feel the same, although I love the debut too.

Sales are meaningless in that aspect yes, but both bands came out at around the time and both were on Universal I think. I'd have "Push" & "3 AM" over "Mr. Jones" any day.

At least I know that "Champagne High" had much more of an impact on me than any of the other two bands' songs.

To me, Counting Crows is much more whiny/depressing than Matchbox 20 - I know Rob Thomas isn't usually upbeat, but he doesn't seem trapped in his own misery to the extent that Adam Duritz does (especially during songs like Round Here)
Also think Matchbox 20 has much more of a pop edge to them than C Crows
IMO Sister Hazel isn't in the same league as the other two - to me, they're like a poppier version of Blues Traveler

This was actually more difficult of a project than I was expecting.
Default - "Deny" Drowning Pool - "Bodies" Jet - "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" M.I.A. - "Paper Planes" The Maroon 5 - "This Love" P.O.D. - "Boom", Satellite" Sevendust - "Praise", "Live Again" (I guess if "Angel's Son" counts, they're out, but that will always be a Strait Up song to me.) The Spice Girls - "Say You'll Be There" Switchfoot - "The Sound" Three Days Grace - "I Hate Everything About You", "Never Too Late" Trapt - "Headstrong"

You really only like one song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers? Wow. And a lack of love for "Losing My Religion" is surprising to me too. Thanks for the reminder on Jason Mraz though. Add him to my list with his two gems "Absolutely Zero" and "Mr. Curiosity" with nothing else that I really like much. Vampire Weekend might make my list with "Giving Up The Gun" and "Oxford Comma" but I haven't heard enough of their songs for that to be fair, and I'm also not sure if I actually like those two songs or if I'm just surprised that I tolerate them relative to "A-Punk".

I at least want to make a dent in this. Most of it is actually inspired by those who've already posted.
Cassidy "I'm a Hustla" Chingy "Right Thurr" Cobra Starship "Good Girls Go Bad" Default "Deny" Earshot "Wait" Jet "Look What You've Done" LFO "Every Other Time" New Boyz "You're a Jerk" Omarion feat. Timbaland "Ice Box" Plies feat. T-Pain "Shawty" Puddle of Mudd "Blurry" Pussycat Dolls feat. Bigg Snoop Dogg "Buttons" Saving Abel "18 Days" Will Smith "Miami" (like Kirk, at least among the solo songs.) Tonic "If You Could Only See"
Too tired to add any more tonight.

This is tough because even if it's a one-hit wonder, their album has to pretty much suck, or at least not appeal to you in order for this to be true. A couple off the top of my head....
Filter- Take a Picture New Radicals- Get What you Give Bad Ronald- Let's Begin The Darkness- I believe in a Thing Called Love OMD- How Bizarre
I'm sure there are more if I do some careful research. There are a number of bands that I think have one good album, wherein they may be one-hit wonders to some degree but the album was awesome too. Trapt comes to mind for me, I can't list them here because that entire album was great.

Hm. I don't even consider that to be one of their best songs. Do they have any good songs? I saw them in concert one time opening up for someone else, and I didn't care for them, and I didn't care for their hit on radio at the time either. Of course, that was back in 2002, so they could have done a lot since then.

I actually considered putting up Earshot, except with "Someone". But I don't even remember "Wait" (or it being a hit), and I vaguely remember "Get Away" (just the refrain and who they were trying to copy). But even with three songs, I didn't figure that to be enough to bother including on this list.

I don't see Earshot as any more of a Tool knockoff than Chevelle or 10 Years.

I like Breaking Benjamin, some Chevelle etc, I just never really liked Earshot.

I find some of these quite funny. Switchfoot - "The Sound"? ??? "Meant to Live" was SO much better imo. And yes Earshot have better songs. "Get Away" would be hard pushed. I don't see Earshot as any more of a Tool knockoff than Chevelle or 10 Years. Wonder when that tour is gonna happen ;)

Of course, that song being my first exposure to the band, that association is what sticks in the head. And that we all used to call them 'Æarshot' just for that.

I find some of these quite funny. Switchfoot - "The Sound"? ??? "Meant to Live" was SO much better imo. I'm not a Switchfoot fan by any means; their songs have never excited me, and especially not the two mega-hits early on in their mainstream career. I didn't even like "The Sound" until it was basically recurrent, but it's all because of its rhythmic similarities to Kasabian's "Club Foot", which drew my attention. Then numerous bits and pieces of the song actually became funny to me in a way I can't even begin to try and explain, but before too long, it had me thinking "Holy crap, I actually enjoy listening to this!" So basically, "The Sound" is one of the strangest guilty pleasures I've ever encountered.

Interesting. I actually can't stand that Kasabian song, but love "The Sound". That being said, "Meant to Live" had such a bigger, more anthemic sound. Guess it's all personal when it comes to music. I mean I only like 1 song by The Bravery & Blink-182, so there we go.

Really? I loved "Club Foot". I had never noticed the similarities between it and "The Sound" before. I'm gonna have to investigate and see if I agree.
