^Not bad for an album that initially entered the chart at No. 127. :) It's a case of a fresh act taking the ol' slow-but-sure climb to the upper reaches of the chart.

exploremusic.com/new-releases/weekly-cd-sales-report-52/Weekly CD Sales Report 8 hours ago by Alan Cross | February 16, 2011 7:43 am For the first time in a while, things don’t suck that bad. The Grammy hype worked, bringing more people into the CD department and pushing sales higher by 14% over last week. The bad news? It’s 10% worse than the same week last year and pacing is 8% below 2010. The Now 17 compilation ended up at #1 this week, moving 8,000 copies across the country. Two Francophone albums, Seul Au Piano from Pierre Lapointe (#2, 7,700 copies) and Michael Louvain’s Je N’ai Pas Change (#9, 3,600) are have the biggest debuts. And for Lemmy fans, Motorhead pops in at #24 with just under 2,000 copies of The World Is Yours. As for digital singles, it’s all female pop with Lady Gaga’s new single, “Born This Way” at #1 (44,000 paid downloads) followed by Rihanna’s “S&M” (17,000) and P!nk’s “F**kin’ Perfect” (13,000.) This means individual track sales are up 4% week-on-week and 25% higher from a week ago. In the US, Now 37 (how did they get twenty volumes ahead of us?) debuts at #1 with just under 151,000 copies. The Grammys wored their magic on Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More, vaulting it 11-2 and seeing sales increase from 25,000 to just under 50,000. And keep in mind that most of that increase came after the awards were telecast on Sunday night. (They also go a bump in Canada, selling 3,800 records compared to last week’s 2,400). The Avett Brothers, who shared the stage with M&S Sunday night, saw sales of I and Love and You triple. That sounds good, but it still means less than 10,000 units. Bieber is back in the top three in America and Nicki Minaj rolls in at #4 with another 47,000 copies to go along with last week’s 45,000. (Nicki is an interesting story in Canada. We’re just not buying what’s she’s selling. Compare her US success to Canada where Pink Friday is at #21, unable to sell even 2,000 units across the country for the second week in a row.) What about the Arcade Fire? After winning Album of the Year at the Grammys, The Suburbs vaulted 77-50 with sales doubling (6,000 to 12,000). As for US digital sales, it’s all Gaga with nearly 448,000 downloads of “Born This Way” followed by the Black Eyed Peas’ “The Time” with 152,000.

www.billboard.com/#/news/now-37-livens-up-billboard-200-at-no-1-1005037432.story'Now 37' Livens Up Billboard 200 at No. 1, Mumford Climb to No. 2 he "Now That's What I Call Music 37" compilation shakes up the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart as it debuts at No. 1 with 151,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's the first time the top slot has seen a figure larger than 100,000 since the tracking week that ended Dec. 26, 2010, when Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" sold 276,000. "Now 37's" launch is the biggest week for any "Now" album since "Now 31" started at No. 1 with 169,000 on the chart dated July 18, 2009. Since then, we've seen more middling arrivals from the series. The 32nd through 36th volumes opened, respectively, with 102,000; 135,000; 88,000; 105,000 and 89,000. Of "Now 37's" 20 songs, seven of them reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100: Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" (featuring Rihanna), Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are," Katy Perry's "Firework," P!nk's "Raise Your Glass," Ke$ha's "We R Who We R," Rihanna's "Only Girl in the World" and Far*East Movement's "Like a G6" (featuring Cataracs and Dev). Racing up the chart nine spots to No. 2 is Mumford & Sons' "Sigh No More" with 49,000 (up 99%). It's a new chart peak and the set's second-best sales week. Not bad for an album that came out exactly a year ago today (Feb. 16, 2010). The majority of "Sigh's" gain can be attributed to a surge in digital sales on Sunday night (13), thanks to the quartet's performance on the Grammy Awards. The Glassnote Records act was also nominated for best new artist, which was presented during the broadcast. The act that Mumford lost to for new artist, jazz singer/bassist Esperanza Spalding, sees her "Chamber Music Society" album returns to No. 1 on our Contemporary Jazz Albums chart with a gain of 243%. The set sold 3,000 this past week -- not enough to allow a re-entry on the Billboard 200. Clearly basking in the glow of his hit film "Never Say Never" -- in addition to multiple Grammy nominations and a performance slot on the show -- Justin Bieber shakes up the chart's top 40. His "My World 2.0" vaults 17-3 (48,000; up 145%), "My Worlds Acoustic" jumps 47-10 (35,000; up 240%) and "My World" rises 100-39 (14,000; up 162%). Next week we'll see the Bieb's "Never Say Never: the Remixes" set, which was released on Monday, bow on the chart. Last week's No. 1, Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday," falls to No. 4 with 47,000, despite a 3% gain in sales. We failed to mention this last week, but Minaj was the first female rapper to top the Billboard 200 since way back on Oct. 2, 1999, when Eve bowed atop the list with "Let There Be Eve." P!nk's "Greatest Hits... So Far!!!" hits a new peak, climbing four spots to No. 5 with 41,000 (up 61%). Believe it or not, but it's now the diva's second-highest charting album. Of her five earlier albums, only her "Funhouse" set has been higher, when it debuted and peaked at No. 2 (Nov. 15, 2008). Though it's up by 24%, Bruno Mars' "Doo Wops & Hooligans" is pushed down two spots to No. 6 thanks to all the busy action ahead of it on the list. Eminem's "Recovery," which won best rap album at the Grammys, zips 10-7 (38,000; up 51%). Rihanna's "Loud" falls three to No. 8 with 37,000 -- but like Mars, is pushed back with a gain (up 24%). Jason Aldean's "My Kinda Party" is also squeezed, slipping 7-9 (35,000; up 30%). Just outside the top 10, the "Grammy Nominees 2011" compilation rises 15-11 (33,000; up 52%) while the Black Eyed Peas' "The Beginning" takes a Super Bowl-fueled jump, moving 20-14 (31,000; up 62%). Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now," which took home the album of the year trophy at the Grammys, climbs 23-17 (28,000; up 60%). We'll see further gains next week on the charts, once a full week's worth of impact is felt from the Grammy Awards. Moving to the Digital Songs chart, Lady Gaga is the big news, as her new "Born This Way" debuts at No. 1 with 448,000 downloads. A staggering number, considering the song was only released to digital retailers on Friday, Feb. 11, so its bow on the chart comes from only three days of sales -- as the tracking week ended on Sunday night (13). "Born's" 448,000 start is the biggest debut sales week for any song by a woman, and the third-largest among all acts. The two bigger debuts? Flo Rida's "Right Round" (636,000 on Feb. 28, 2009) and the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" (465,000 on April 18, 2009). Katy Perry's "Firework" rises 7-2 (170,000; up 40%) -- a gain aided by its tribute on last week's episode of "Glee" -- while P!nk's "F**kin' Perfect" holds at No. 3 (153,000; down 18%). The Black Eyed Peas' "The Time (Dirty Bit)" bumps 11-4 (153,000; up 46%), Wiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow" falls 2-5 (153,000; down 23%) and Cee Lo Green's "F**k You (Forget You)" jumps 12-6 following its Grammy Awards performance (148,000; up 55%). Rihanna's "S&M" whips up the tally 20-7 (145,000; up a whopping 93%) while Mars' "Grenade" slides 5-8 (143,000; up 1%). Two more debuts populate the top 10 on Digital Songs this week: Jay Sean's "Hit the Lights" (featuring Lil Wayne) opens at No. 9 (135,000) and Colbie Caillat's "I Do" bows at No. 10 (130,000). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Feb. 13) totaled 6.4 million units, up 17% compared to the sum last week (5.5 million) and down 18% compared to the comparable sales week of 2010 (7.8 million). Year to date album sales stand at 32.8 million, down 15% compared to the same total at this point last year (38.5 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 26.8 million downloads, up 9% compared to last week (24.6 million) and up 6% stacked next to the comparable week of 2010 (25.2 million). Year to date track sales are at 159.7 million, up 4% compared to the same total at this point last year (153.3 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2010 when: Sade's "Soldier of Love" spent a second week at No. 1 (190,000; down 62%) while the list's top debut came in at No. 42 from Story of the Year's "Constant" (14,000).

NOW 31 was #1 on BB200 dated 7/18/09 but was not the best selling album. Michael Jackson had two titles ahead of it.
So the previous best selling album of the week coming from that series was 30 in April 2009.

But, this article is about the Billboard 200, on which MJ's albums were not eligible at the time- so, writing that Now 31 debuted at No. 1 is completely accurate.

Overall album sales down 15% vs. last year- hopefully the year-to-year decline won't approach 20%.

Oh dear, with the Never Say Never soundtrack (which includes remixes of old songs), that'll 4 different albums that are all basically based off the MY WORLDS era. They're really milking it, time to move on!
On another note, I'm happy to see that digital tracks will most likely increase for at least another year :) And even though they're down compared to last year, this is the 3rd or 4th week with overall album sales increases I think?

Wow - kind of amazing that Rihanna has a song with top ten airplay that's ranked only at #48 in sales.

Wow - kind of amazing that Rihanna has a song with top ten airplay that's ranked only at #48 in sales. unfortunately, Taylor's been having the same problem with "Back To December": currently Top 10 on airplay, but only No. 50 on iTunes. any rate, back to Rihanna, Grein neglected to mention "S&M", which Billboard confirmed is at No. 7 on Hot Digital Songs this week. EDIT: just checked Grein's page, the Loud description has to fixed to relfect "S&M"'s sales. Source

new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart_watch/74330/week-ending-feb-13-2011-albums-biebers-big-weekend/;_ylt=A0SO2_ruL1xNu_4ArqUPwiUvWeek Ending Feb. 13, 2011: Albums: Bieber's Big Weekend Posted Wed Feb 16, 2011 11:55am PST by Paul Grein in Chart Watch Justin Bieber has two albums in the top 10 on this week's Billboard 200. My World 2.0 jumps from #17 to #3, its highest ranking since June. My Worlds Acoustic vaults from #47 to #10, its highest ranking since it debuted at #7 in November. Bieber had a rather eventful weekend. His movie, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, grossed $29,514,000 at the box-office in its opening weekend. Bieber also performed on the Grammys, where he was nominated for two awards. Only one concert movie has ever had a bigger opening weekend than Bieber's. Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus' Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour grossed $31,118,000 in February 2008. Never Say Never ranks ahead of Michael Jackson's This Is It, which grossed $23,234,000 in October 2009, and Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience, which grossed $12,510,000 in February 2009. A companion EP to Bieber's movie, Never Say Never: The Remixes, is expected to be next week's top new entry. Seven of the albums in this week's top 10 got a boost of some kind from this year's Grammys, which were presented on Sunday, the last day of the sales tracking week. Mumford & Sons' Sigh No More leaps from #11 to #2. Eminem's Recovery jumps from #10 to #7. Both acts performed on the show. Eminem also won two awards, though he didn't win Album of the Year, as was widely expected. We'll need another week to gauge the full impact of the show on the evening's key winners. Here are the early results. Lady Antebellum's Need You Now, which took five Grammys, including Record and Song of the Year, jumps from #23 to #17. Arcade Fire's The Suburbs, which was the surprise winner for Album of the Year, jumps from #80 to #52. Esperanza Spalding's Chamber Music Society more than tripled its sales compared to the previous week, though it still fell short of The Billboard 200. (It will come on next week.) The album initially peaked at #107 in August. The jazz singer and bassist was the upset winner for Best New Artist. Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," which she also performed on the Grammys, enters the Hot 100 at #1. It's the 1000th #1 single since Billboard introduced this chart in August 1958. "Born This Way" sold 448,000 copies, which is the third fattest first-week total in digital history. (And it sold all those copies in just three days.) The only songs that sold more copies in their first weeks are Flo Rida's "Right Round," which moved 636K in its first week in February 2009, and the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow," which sold 465K in its first week in April 2009. I'll have all the details on this when we post Chart Watch: Songs later today. Now 37 enters The Billboard 200 at #1. It's the 15th installment in the Now series to reach #1; the first to do so since Now 31 in July 2009. The album sold 151,000 copies in its first week, which constitutes the biggest first-week sales tally for a Now volume since Now 31 started with sales of 169K. Now 37 is the first album of any kind to sell 100K in any one week in 2011. This is the sixth chart week of 2011, and yes, this is the latest in the year that we've had to wait to see the first 100K seller in the Nielsen SoundScan era. In 2007, we had to wait four weeks for Pretty Ricky's Late Night Special (which sold 132K). In 2009, we had to wait five weeks for Bruce Springsteen's Working On A Dream (which sold 224K). By jumping from #11 to #2, Mumford & Sons' Sigh No More finally breaks into the top five in its 47th week on the chart. That's the longest that any album has taken to crack the top five since Taylor Swift's Taylor Swift finally muscled into the top five in its 63rd week in January 2008. Both acts were nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys. Both acts went home empty-handed. Swift lost to Amy Winehouse. (It hasn't seemed to hold her back too much.) Sigh No More sold 34,000 digital copies this week, which allows the album to reach #1 on the weekly Digital Albums chart for the first time. The album has sold 459,000 digital copies, which puts it at #10 on Nielsen SoundScan's running list of the best-selling digital albums of all time. Sigh No More is the only album in the top 10 on that list that has sold more digital copies than CDs. It has sold 56% of its copies in the digital sphere. (Of the albums in the top 10 on that chart, Kings Of Leon's Only By The Night is second in terms of its digital percentage. It has sold 31% of its copies digitally.) P!ink's Greatest Hits...So Far!!! jumps from #9 to #5 in its 13th week.. It's the highest-charting greatest hits compilation since Bon Jovi's Greatest Hits debuted at #5 in November. Unlike that album, P!nk's collection had to really work its way to major-hit status. It took 12 weeks to crack the top 10. The success of P!nk's album is a real achievement. Greatest hits albums don't mean as much as they did prior to the opening of the iTunes store in 2003, which allowed fans to easily create their own compilations. Rihanna's Loud logs its 10th week in the top 10. That's the longest that any Rihanna album has remained in the winner's circle. Her 2007 album Good Girl Gone Bad logged nine weeks in the top 10. Jason Aldean's My Kinda Party entered both The Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums at #2 in November, behind Taylor Swift's Speak Now, which was in its second week in the top spot on both charts. Aldean pulled ahead of Swift in weekly sales last week and remains ahead this week. My Kinda Party is the first album by a male solo artist to log two weeks at #1 on Top Country Albums since Brad Paisley's American Saturday Night scored in July 2009. Taylor Swift's Speak Now drops from #8 to #12, ending (for now at least) a 15-week run in the top 10. Three other albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Red's Until We Have Faces plummets from #2 to #29. Ricky Martin's Musica + Alma + Sexo dives from #3 to #31. Kidz Bop Kids' Kidz Bop 19 drops from #6 to #16. Thompson Square's eponymous debut album bows at #15 (and at #3 on Top Country Albums). The Nashville-based husband-and-wife duo consists of Keifer and Shawna Thompson. The album includes "Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not" which drops from #37 to #51 on Hot Digital Songs.. The Black Eyed Peas' The E.N.D. jumps from #41 to #20 on The Billboard 200 in the wake of the group's half-time performance at the Super Bowl. It's the #1 Catalog Album for the third week. The album has sold 40K copies in the past three weeks, which is nice, though a bit below the size of the Super Bowl audience. Glee, The Music: Season Two: Volume 4 jumps from #36 to #24. It's the #1 soundtrack for the second straight week. Country Strong falls from #38 to #57. It's the #1 soundtrack to a theatrically-released movie for the fifth straight week. The Beatles' Love, which was released to accompany the group's long-running Cirque de Soleil show in Las Vegas, re-enters The Billboard 200 at #37. The album became available digitally for the first time this week. It sold 12,000 digital copies. The album has sold 2,184,000 total copies since its release in November 2006. Journey's Greatest Hits re-enters the chart at #145. Nielsen SoundScan combined the sales of two editions of this album this week, which allows it to vault from #86 to #45 on the tracking firm's running list of the best-selling albums in its history. The album has sold 7,746,000 copies since its release in 1988.. Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy tops the 1 million mark in sales this week. It took 12 weeks to ring the bell. Rascal Flatts' Greatest Hits Volume 1 hit the 1 million mark last week. The album was released in October 2008. Adele's 21 holds at #1 on the Official U.K. chart for the third straight week. The album is tied with Rihanna's Loud for the longest run at #1 on the U.K. chart so far in 2011. Adele's album will be released in the U.S. next week. Just Go With It was #1 at the box-office over the weekend. It grossed $1 million more than Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Coming Attractions: Justin Bieber's Never Say Never: The Remixes won't be next week's only high debut. Also due: Bright Eyes' The People's Key, Ginuwine's Elgin and PJ Harvey's Let England Shake.

Bieber has sold 4,677,000 copies between his 3 albums. Since he's in the same league with these other recent teen sensations, does anyone know approx. how many albums The Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus have shifted in the US to date?

If you count the Hannah Montana stuff Miley has sold more than Bieber.
Even without those she is close. Meet Miley Cyrus is 3X platinum (3.2 Sold). Breakout is Platinum (1.5 Sold). Recent is like (302K). Don't know what those total to though. But i would also count the Hannah Stuff. It's still her. LOL. A lot of it's crap but at least she has a little talent, unlike Beiber or Jonas.
And Jonas isnt even close. They have 3 platinum albums but not combine to 4,000,000. Jonas Brothers suck as much as Bieber.
