"I Am Woman" was used on Dancing with the Stars tonight, and it sounds even better backed by choreography!

I think Jordin can sing R&B. Whoever is the A&R rep for this album needs to be fired though. Most female singers suffer from this issue.

What Ariana is doing is what Jordin should be doing...something similar. Rhythmic AirPlay focus

Ironically, "The Way" which she co-wrote, would have been perfect for her.

Jordin never would say exactly what happened because she's classy like that, but we know that "The Way" was going to be her comeback single in January of that year. I highly suspect "The Way" got snatched from her, thus giving RCA yet another reason to push her release back.
That said, I also have a strong suspicion that Jordin would not have gotten half the positive reaction that Ariana did with TW, and that has nothing to do with the song or how Jordin would have sounded on it.

Yeah, the one interview I saw her talk about it, she said she doesn't know how Ariana got it but she is happy every time she hears Ariana singing it, lol. I would be too! I know she has her hands full just trying to get her own career semi-going again, but I wish she'd get into trying to write for other people. If The Way is any indication she could do very well in that area.

Republic petty for taking Jordin's only chance for another hit, and giving it to Grande Supreme.

It's not about pettiness LOL. It's about being sound business people. Why would they give a guaranteed hit to someone whose last album sold like 200k? At least Jordin got paid for the song and is able to stay off SNAP.

At least Jordin got paid for the song and is able to stay off SNAP. Why take a song someone co-wrote though? Jordin helped make that 'guaranteed' hit herself so arguably it isn't so sound to let someone else have her opportunity, and the fact that she didn't get a say in the matter is foul. Not to mention that at the time, Ariana was still unknown to the public. While I think Jordin was down in the pits more, let's not act like she was completely damaged goods yet, or like Ari was a known quantity to anyone besides ten year olds watching Nickelodeon at that point. And especially not with a throwback '90s song before throwback '90s became the fashionable thing to do. Ariana hit the jackpot. That said it obviously isn't petty on Republic's part. It's petty on RCA's part that they let it happen. It mainly comes down to having people who are actually looking out for you. Ariana has that, while all of Jordin's lookouts (aka her entire label) got fired while she was in the middle of working on her third album. So yeah...those are the guys who are probably on SNAP right now.

I think the label took one look at Ariana, heard that she can hit whistle notes, took note of the Mariah comparisons and bet on the horse that they thought would win. Apparently, their bet paid off. Sucks for Jordin but, as Drake so wisely said in the Versace remix: "Business is business...strictly financial."

Ariana was not unknown. Her fanbase was somewhat established from Victorious and Sam & Cat.

For real. Why else would she have opened so strongly? Let's not discount that tween purchasing power.
Annnnyway, back to Jordin. I'm tired of double tappin that ho. Any word on a follow-up?

I wasn't aware Ariana had opened strongly yet. I definitely see it as pettiness, considering even Jordin's flop album delivered a hit single ("Battlefield"). Ariana is only just now getting her first solo hit.

Ariana is only just now getting her first solo hit. Meh. I don't see it as a personal thing when artists let go of songs they wrote and give them to other artists. There are plenty of examples of artists giving their songs to others, and it ends up working out better in the end. Personally, I'd love to see Jordin go back to the pure Pop sound, but since she's been struggling, I can't fault her for wanting to try something else.

Sucks for Jordin but, as Drake so wisely said in the Versace remix: "Business is business...strictly financial." But Ariana and Jordin weren't signed to the same label, so there was no horse betting here. Like I said, it wasn't Republic who was petty; Jordin was RCA's responsibility and that's what I (and toomuchboy, I think) are getting at. An artist on Republic has NO business magically ending up with a song intended for/already secured by an artist on RCA - they're not even sister labels and the song was not being shopped around - and the only reason that could have possibly happened is active malice, negligence, or sheer ineptitude. My problem with the situation is not that Ariana got the song but that someone decided for Jordin that the song would be better off with someone else, and what decent reason does RCA have to look out for another label's interests? That isn't sound business at all. Dropping Jordin because they planned on not working with her would have been sound (cut your losses) but they didn't do that, either. In fact Jordin said that Salaam had to wait for the right time to offer to take Jordin off RCA's hands. I need to do a double check but off the top of my head I think she was the only Jive carryover who never did get an album release while signed to them. It was almost a JoJo like hostage situation and it was hard to understand. Still is...folding all those Jive/J/Arista singers into a basement-dwelling 'urban' division on RCA might be the worst thing to happen to the r&b genre since electro-pop. Ariana had her tween fanbase, that isn't what I'm discounting; but I could have bet on Victoria Justice and had the same odds of winning or losing tbh. Breaking someone from the Disney/Nick shell to mainstream success is iffy, and at the time Nick hadn't done it yet. I have vague memories of iCarly making an attempt but it didn't happen.

^yeah, I do think there was some shady business involved. How that song ended up in Ari's hands is...weird. But for some reason I just can't picture Jordin singing The Way. I think the whole R&B thing doesn't really fit her as an artist. One can see that she is having a lot of fun with Double Tap but...she sounded more real singing country song A Broken Wing on AI than here.

Sounds like something Tamia would have been singing 15 years ago but I still really like it. I'll definitely be looking out for her album if Double Tap/this song are the standard.

I just saw her video last night for Double Tap and I gotta say I was not impressed. Not sure why she is trying so hard to change her image but I'm not digging it at all.
Not saying she has to be all buttoned up but there is sexy and then there is trying too hard to be sexy and I think she overshot and landed in the trying to hard section of the music industry.
I hope she figures herself out because I love her music.

OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! This was the song I said I needed to hear the whole thing to see what direction it went in. That percussion knocks and the strings at the end are lush. I hope the delay in release was b/c she was getting her coins together for promo. She has an uphill battle so she needs all the push she can get.
