www.billboard.com/#/news/adele-returns-to-no-1-on-billboard-200-rise-1005086632.storyAdele Returns to No. 1 on Billboard 200, Rise Against Bows At No. 2by Keith Caulfield, L.A. | March 23, 2011 11:00 EDT Adele's "21" heads back the top slot (2-1) on the Billboard 200 albums chart for a third non-consecutive week, selling 98,000 (down 26%) according to Nielsen SoundScan. She bumps last week's champ, Lupe Fiasco's "Lasers," down to No. 3 (47,000; down 77%). Debuting at No. 2 is rock band Rise Against with its sixth studio album "Endgame," shifting 85,000. It easily marks the act's best sales week and chart high. It surpasses its previous record frame, when its last set, 2008's "Appeal to Reason," debuted and peaked at No. 2 off a 65,000 start. One other new album arrives in the top 10, as blink-182 drummer Travis Barker sees his (mostly) hip-hop collaborations set "Give the Drummer Some" enter at No. 9 with 28,000. On Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, it bows in the No. 2 slot. The set boasts a cavalcade of hip-hop heavyweights like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, RZA, Fiasco, Snoop Dogg and Ludacris. Just outside the top 10, Celtic Thunder's "Heritage" takes a St. Patrick's Day-propelled 82-position leap to No. 11 (26,000; up 356%). It gives the ensemble its highest charting album yet and best sales frame. Back in the top 10, the fifth volume of the "Glee" soundtrack series falls one slot to No. 4 (43,000; down 52%), Mumford & Sons' "Sigh No More" climbs two to No. 5 (41,000; down 10%) and Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never: the Remixes" rises three to No. 6 (34,000; down 15%). Avril Lavigne's "Goodbye Lullaby" descends three to No. 7 (32,000; down 64%), the "Now 37" set is up two to No. 8 (30,000; down 7%) and Marsha Ambrosius' "Late Nights & Early Mornings" dips two to No. 10 (28,000; down 33%). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending March 20) totaled 5.71 million units, down 8% compared to the sum last week (6.22 million) and up 1% compared to the comparable sales week of 2010 (5.67 million). Year to date album sales stand at 64.72 million, down 6% compared to the same total at this point last year (69.08 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2010 when: Justin Bieber's "My World 2.0" bowed at No. 1 with 283,000, Monica's "Still Standing" started at No. 2 (184,000) and the "Now 33" compilation debuted at No. 3 (135,000). The previous week's No. 1, Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now," fell to No. 4 with 78,000 (down 16%).

And- yet another year-to-year increase (albeit 1%). For the 5th straight week! Let's see how long this can keep up. Expected drop for Avril as well.

^Is she planning on promoting on American Idol this season? It somewhat helped Lee DeWyze sales. I think she might be able to gain more sales if she performs on there soon.

I think Lee DeWyze needs a huge push by the label. I feel like no one but his die hard fans (me) know that he has an album out. They need to keep the momentum from last week's American Idol appearance.

Mumford & Sons are turning out be quite the success story. With barely little to no radio support, no Grammys or major music awards in the US, they've managed to sell over 1 million copies and STILL hang around in the top 10 long after their performance at the Grammys. They've certainly built a following.

They're THE college band right now. You don't get to have the same level of popularity as Dispatch, Guster, or O.A.R. with typical promotion strategies. This is largely word of mouth.

While Idol has helped propel Jenny From the Block's latest single to a degree, I'm, guessing it has not boosted her albums catalog all that notably?

I can't find the article, but Billboard mentioned right after Lauren Alaina propelled Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" back into the digital rock charts, that surprisingly, J.Lo's catalog had DECREASED in sales the following week. VERY random!

Haha Yeah, both Billboard and I are, Blaise. :)
I think Billboard mentioned that her digital sales declined- not sure about album sales.

I am surprised Bowersux actually sold as many albums as she did. She is creepily awful. Although I am thrilled for Adele. Glad to see some talent on the top of the charts.

The RIAA website still has not updated that MMLP is Diamond. Ugh. They are slow. Since it was certified like two weeks ago.

new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart_watch/74344/week-ending-march-20-2011-albums-a-21-gun-salute/ Week Ending March 20, 2011: Albums: A "21" Gun Salute Posted Wed Mar 23, 2011 11:48am PDT by Paul Grein in Chart Watch Adele's 21 logs its third week at #1 in the U.S. and its eighth week at #1 in the U.K. It's the first album to spend three of its first four weeks at #1 in the U.S. since Susan Boyle's The Gift. Both artists appeal primarily to an adult audience. Three of 10 best-selling albums of 2010 had strong adult appeal: Lady Antebellum's Need You Now, The Gift and Sade's Soldier Of Love. 21 is the first album to spend eight weeks at #1 in the U.K. since Leona Lewis' Spirit. It's the first album to spend eight consecutive weeks at #1 in the U.K. since James Blunt's Back To Bedlam in 2005. The Lewis and Blunt albums both spawned #1 hits on the Hot 100, "Bleeding Love" and "You're Beautiful," respectively. "Rolling In The Deep," the lead single from Adele's album, hasn't been as big a hit in the U.S. It peaked at #13 three weeks ago and last week dropped to #25. Mumford & Sons' Sigh No More winds up one full year on The Billboard 200 by rebounding from #7 to #5. The album has sold 1,161,000 copies, but it has definitely done it the hard way. The album first entered the chart in the week ending Feb. 21, 2010. It opened at a lowly #127, with first-week sales of 5K. It dropped off the chart for four weeks in the early going, and even when it returned to the chart, it took time to build. The album first sold 10K copies in one week in the week ending Aug. 1. It first sold 25K copies in one week in the week that included Thanksgiving. It first sold 50K copies in one week in the week that included Christmas. Justin Bieber's Never Say Never-The Remixes rebounds from #9 to #6. Over the weekend, Bieber's movie Never Say Never topped Michael Jackson's This Is It as the top-grossing concert movie in the U.S. Bieber's movie has grossed $72,209,000, a little more than Jackson's 2009 movie, which took in $72,091,000. (These are domestic box-office figures. Jackson's movie is still the champ worldwide.) Boxofficemojo.com maintains a list of top-grossing concert movies since 1984. Thirteen concert movies have grossed more than $1 million in that period. I posted a Chart Watch Extra yesterday in which I count down them down. If you missed it, here's a link. Avril Lavigne's Goodbye Lullaby drops from #4 to #7 in its second week. That's disappointing, given Lavigne's track record. Lavigne's 2002 debut album, Let Go, logged 37 weeks in the top 10. Her last two albums, Under My Skin and The Best Damn Thing, remained in the top 10 for 11 and seven weeks, respectively. Travis Barker's Give The Drummer Some bows at #9. It's the first solo album by the drummer for Blink-182, which amassed five straight top 10 albums from 1999 to 2005. The new album features such hip-hop stars as Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, The Game and Rick Ross. All these collabos enabled the album to enter Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums at #2, just behind Lupe Fiasco's Lasers, which holds tight at #1. Marsha Ambrosius' Late Nights & Early Mornings logs its third week in the top 10. It's Ambrosius' first album to spend multiple weeks in the top 10. Floetry's Flo'Ology spent a single frame in the top 10 in 2005. "E.T." by Katy Perry featuring Kanye West holds at #1 on Hot Digital Songs for the second week. Two Glee songs ("Loser Like Me" and "Get It Right") vault into the top 10. The Black Eyed Peas' "Just Can't Get Enough" leaps from #18 to #3. What will all this mean when the Hot 100 is compiled today? You'll just have to wait until we post Chart Watch: Songs later today. Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 albums. 1. Adele, 21, 98,000. The album logs its third week at #1. Three songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Rolling In The Deep," which drops from #15 to #19. 2. Rise Against, Endgame, 85,000. This new entry is the band's third top 10 (and highest-charting) album. Most of these copies (47K) were sold digitally, which puts it at #1 on the Digital Albums chart. "Help Is On The Way," written about Hurricane Katrina, enters Hot Digital Songs at #177. 3. Lupe Fiasco, Lasers, 47,000. The former #1 album drops to #3 in its second week. Two songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs. "The Show Goes On" jumps from #29 to #23. "Beautiful Lasers (2 Ways)" (featuring MDMA) drops from #46 to #112. 4. Glee Cast, Glee, The Music, Season Two, Volume 5, 43,000. The album dips from #3 to #4 in its second week. It's the #1 soundtrack for the second week. Four songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Loser Like Me," which vaults from #119 to #2. 5. Mumford & Sons, Sigh No More, 41,000. The album rebounds from #7 to #5 in its 52nd week. Two songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs. "The Cave" drops from #51 to #54. "Little Lion Man" drops from #64 to #69. 6. Justin Bieber, Never Say Never-The Remixes, 34,000. The former #1 album rebounds from #9 to #6 in its fifth week. Three songs from the EP are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Never Say Never" (featuring Jaden Smith), which drops from #28 to #40. 7. Avril Lavigne, Goodbye Lullaby, 32,000. The album drops from #4 to #7 in its second week. "What The Hell" drops from #13 to #21 on Hot Digital Songs. 8. Various Artists, Now 37, 30,000. The former #1 album rebounds from #10 to #7 in its sixth week. The album has sold a healthy 410K copies in six weeks. 9. Travis Barker, Give The Drummer Some, 28,000. This new entry is Barker's sixth top 10 album (counting five albums he recorded with Blink-182). Two songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs. "Let's Go" (featuring Yelawolf, Twista, Busta Rhymes and Lil Jon) enters at #123. "Cool Head" (featuring Kid Cudi) enters at #194. 10. Marsha Ambrosius, Late Nights & Early Mornings, 28,000. The album drops from #8 to #10 in its third week. It has been in the top 10 the entire time. It has sold 165K copies to date. Two albums drop out of the top 10 this week. R.E.M.'s Collapse Into Now drops from #5 to #21. Sara Evans' Stronger drops from #6 to #17. All but two of R.E.M.'s studio albums since 1987 have made the top 10, but most of the recent ones haven't stayed there long. 1998's Up, 2001's Reveal and now Collapse Into You have all gotten the boot after just one week. Evans' album is #1 on Top Country Albums for the second week, a personal best for the singer. Celtic Thunder's Heritage vaults from #93 to #11 in its fourth week, in the wake of St. Patrick's Day. This is the highest-charting album to date for the group, which was formed in Northern Ireland. In addition, the group's Heritage music video returns to #1 on the Top Music Videos chart for a second week. It sold 3K copies this week, bringing its four-week total to 19K. Miranda Cosgrove's High Maintenance bows at #34. It's the second EP by the star of iCarly, which is in its fourth season on Nickelodeon. It made sense to put out an EP on an artist with young fans, but the EP got off to a slower start than Cosgrove's one full-length album, Sparks Fly, which debuted at #8 in May...The Burlesque soundtrack drops from #27 to #32. It's the top-ranking soundtrack to a theatrically-released movie for the fifth week....Adele's 19 slips from #37 to #40. It's #1 on the Catalog Albums chart for the fifth straight week. Steve Martin's second bluegrass album, Rare Bird Alert, debuts at #43. This beats his first album in the genre, The Crow/New Songs For The Five-String Banjo, which peaked at #93 in May 2009. That album has sold a healthy 107K copies. It won a Grammy as Best Bluegrass Album. The new album, which gives co-billing to the Steep Canyon Rangers, features vocal contributions by Paul McCartney and Dixie Chicks. This is the highest that Martin has appeared on The Billboard 200 since his 1979 album Comedy Is Not Pretty peaked at #25. Three albums in Columbia Records' long-running Essential series re-enter The Billboard 200 this week. The Essential Michael Jackson bows at #123 (total sales to date: 1,793,000). The Essential Billy Joel bows at #170 (1,481,000). The Essential Neil Diamond bows at #200 (971,000). American Idol: 10th Anniversary-The Hits, Volume 1 bows at a tepid #136. It sold just 4K copies, which is remarkable given the TV show's consistent #1 rating. (It sold fewer copies this week than Live It Up by Season 9 champ Lee DeWyze, which re-enters at #96 in the wake of his return to the Idol stage.) The 10th Anniversary album features one track by the winner from each of the series' first nine seasons, as well as by three of its most successful "losers": Clay Aiken, Daughtry and Adam Lambert. Limitless was #1 at the box-office over the weekend. There is no soundtrack album. Coming Attractions: Chris Brown's F.A.M.E. will debut at #1 next week, with sales in the 275K range. I understand that Brown has been making some TV appearances to promote the album. I hope they're going well. Jennifer Hudson's I Remember Me will bow at #2, with sales in the 165K range. Four more albums are expected to debut in the top 10: The Strokes' Angles, Kirk Franklin's Hello Fear, Panic! At The Disco's Vices & Virtues and Bobby V's Fly On The Wall. Also due: Yellowcard's When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes, Green Day's CD/DVD combo Awesome As F**k and Gucci Mane's The Return Of Mr. Zone 6
