But I guess that would be a plus in the context of a Britney tribute. Messy... but yeah I hope that this line up isn't true but the closer to the awards show I'm starting to believe it. I wish they could just do one song from each album Baby one more time, Oops...I did it again, Slave, Toxic, Gimme more, Circus, and TTWE. Looks like that won't happen. |

^There have been odd cases of a similar nature before. For instance, Will Smith's "Wild Wild West" was nominated for Video of the Year, but lost the movie video category to "Beautiful Stranger"- which was not nominated in the VOTY category. Not sure if other scenarios like that happened with the VMAs- it has at the Grammys (i.e. Joni Mitchell, who was not nominated for Album of the Year, won the Pop Album categoy over Mimi Carey, whose album was in the AOTY category).
So, what was the case with this year's VMAs, anyway? Is MTV picking the winners, or did fans have the opportunity to vote again?

The fan-voted thing. Single Ladies won VOTY but lost Pop Video to Womanizer and Female Video to You Belong With Me.
Gaga isn't contending for VOTY...if she was and MTV sticks to fan-voting, I think she'd win. Same w/ Britney in Pop Video.

So, did fans vote for any categories this year? If not, that would be a step in the right direction in fixing the process. And, I may have missed a reply. Since the odd 2007 year, has MTV chosen the winners of any of the non-technical categories? I know fans determined nominees in 2008 and, I believe, voted on, the winners in the non-technical categories.

Jay-Z and Kanye West to Perform at VMAs The MTV Video Music Awards are getting a dose of rap royalty. Jay-Z and Kanye West will bless the stage at Sunday’s show.
E! Online reports that the dynamic duo has been added to the already star-studded lineup. Details surrounding their performance are so secretive that even MTV’s crew doesn’t know exactly when Jay and ‘Ye will appear or what song(s) off their No. 1 album Watch the Throne they will perform. Will Beyoncé join them for “Lift Off” and/or will we see the television debut of “Otis”?
Jay’s other half will be performing her own set in addition to opener Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Adele, Bruno Mars, and Pitbull featuring Ne-Yo. Tony Bennett will lead the tribute to the late Amy Winehouse and surprise artists will salute Britney Spears.
