^Pretty tight spread between #8 and #19, huh? Should be an interesting couple of weeks as shift around, especially as we get new Gaga and Beyonce that should smash instantly.

Awesome for Ke$ha. And I am going to be sooo pissed if S&M misses the top next week by a few points. Hopefully the label does something else to promote it just to ensure it gets there. Maybe have Ryan make a special announcement on Idol that she worked with Britney for her smash hit single or something, kinda like what they did with On the Floor. Maybe even cut the price of the original to $.99 and leave the remix at regular price to generate extra sales.

I'm betting 60/40 odds on Katy holding off Rihanna this week. I am betting the Ri/Brit remix is going to decline fairly quickly on iTunes.
(Now that I've said this aloud, I'll probably be proven wrong.)

If S&M reaches #1 it might be her third single in a row to only spend 1 week at the top, right? That has to be some sort of record...

Shes had an amazing airplay record, but her digital sales never match up which makes several weeks at #1 harder for her. Wasn't WMN only in the top 5 of itunes when it hit #1?

No. "In the same week, it entered the US Hot Digital Songs chart at number one with first week sales of 235,000."

So will S&M's Billboard entry credit Britney whatever the placing this coming week? I mean obviously up until this week it has een Rihanna's song. I'm guessing it will change next week?

It needs to reach a certain percentage for Britney to be credited, but most likely she will. S&M remix is just selling like crazy. If it is, easy #1 for Britney lols

is it FOR SURE a percentage? I would think it would be if the remix was the sole reason why the original got to #1. Because in that case, i would say YES, Britney should get credit. The original would not have made it. Same with E.T. Kanye gets credit because the original would not have made #1 on it's own (tho we'll never know because the remix came out right away).
but if it is a percentage, i'd like to know the actual number for future reference. ;)

I won't consider S&M a #1 for Britney, up unitl now it has always been Rihanna's song, Britney was only added to a different version at the last minute, the original song has only Rihanna. Besides, if they add the remix's sales to the original, then it will only be Rihanna's #1 I believe.

I'm sure it is nothing but label politics in this matter.

That's exactly how I felt about ET. The song was Katy's own credit, then the "remix" sold and now it's credited as Katy Perry & Kanye.
The same goes for S&M. It was Rihanna's song, no matter how long she may have spent at #2, but the Britney remix may propel it to number one. But whatever the position next week, the song credit on the Billboard chart should change to Rihanna ft Britney Spears no?

Well either way you look at it, it wouldn't have been #1 if it wasn't for Britney being added to it. So for that alone I think Britney ought to be credited appropriately.

So if Britney gets credited next week, what if the sales for that "remix" fall the following week and the single goes back to #2... does Britney get taken off the credit?

I'm curious, what do people think of Jason Mraz' I'm Yours having a Lil Wayne remix that helped it get some longevity it wouldn't have had otherwise. I specifically remember Billboard mentioning that the remix helped the song stabilize instead of falling and could have very well fallen off without the remix getting those extra digital sales and late game rhythmic play for all we know. Should Lil Wayne get credit for aiding in the longest chart run on billboard?

I've never seen a comparison on how well the original E.T. is being played (audience-wise) vs. the remix. I think an impression is an impression, much like an album version vs. a radio edit. It's all tracked the same. I hope Britney gets it. If it wasn't for her, it wouldn't be #1. Simple as that. She should get the credit. and yes, Kanye has gotten credit for E.T.

I didn't think Britney would get credited? I thought the version that had the most airplay was the one that got the credit on the Hot 100.

When "E.T." first charted for a week, it was credited with Katy only. Then, when it re-entered, it was "Featuring Kanye West." Plus, West is in the video, so that's the version that has received the lion's share of the promo push.
"S&M" has been charting for 13 weeks now, would be odd to all of a sudden add Spears' name to the credit- but, odder things have happened. And if the label requests it, Billboard probably will oblige. Does airplay have anything to do with it? Because, obviously, the mix isn't getting the airplay that the original is getting.

By the next week, the remix with Kanye was released and since then he's gotten credited With the S&M remix now, I'm not sure if radio stations are playing the remix more, but they should, and should drop the original. 13 weeks will be credited to Rihanna and the next remaining weeks with Britney. Why can't it be as simple as that

Well imo, when S&M goes number 1 Britney will get credit. And then the TTWE remix (which im assuming will be Rihanna because i'm sure the labels did this for both artists to get quick number 1s) will credit Rihanna.
