Apparently, it's a "fire" Carrie has known been going on. I can see Carrie being "disappointed" for any leaks of her demos.
I have a feeling she's wants to present her sound when it's the finlal work and when best and so these demos are not up to her standards. I also have a feeling her singing on the demos are just references for the actual demo singer, whomever it will end up being.
It's possible if a demo is leaked and heard many times over and for a while, it wont' end up being on an album because the surprise factor is gone and possibly costing herself and co-writers cuts on any future albums.
Hence, i've always championed the cause of not making public any demos of Carrie's that any super die hard fans of her have in their posession (it's like giving a baby a shotgun kinda). Sure we all want to hear any new Carrie music out there (demos included) but leaks can cause a lot of damage for her and her team.
Reference her post on the FC for you FC members out there.

Carrie dragged someone for posting a direct link to DL "Oklahoma Wind" over at the FC message board. I didn't get a chance to see the post myself, it's since been deleted, but apparently she was pretty upset about the whole thing. She basically said that the leaking of OW has prevented it from making any of her future albums and she wishes ppl would stop spreading the link around b/c it's cutting the co-writers short from the profit they deserve.Somebody also posted the clip of "Wine After Whiskey" and its lyrics over at the FC. Carrie hasn't addressed that one but I really don't get how anyone would think that's a good idea. On one hand I can understand why Carrie would be upset, but why would leaking songs prevent them from making an album? The OW demo only got around to diehard fans, so it's not like everybody has heard it. And the writers aren't losing any money by having their songs leak on Youtube; this is the technological age, and stuff like this is bound to happen, no matter how much Carrie wants it to be prevented. If she wants to writers to get their due for one of her songs maybe she should release on an album instead of blaming the fans for getting their hands on something they enjoy listening to. I don't agree with Carrie's stance on this at all. We don't know what the deal is behind the scenes with all the co- writers involved and we certainly don't know how the Oklahoma Wind working tape (the one with Carrie's voice) leaked. It's possible that she knew how and who leaked the tape and she's upset with the breach of trust. Tbh, I don't agree with you as well. In a way you're also saying all those who download music illegally are not at fault just because they seek out the music they like and it's all there on the internet.

I guess I just don't understand why it's officially ruled out forever, when it's obviously a fan favorite song, and a fantastic song at that. I can understand her being upset that it leaked (and that it was spread around so much), but I don't understand why that translates into refusing to put the song on any album in the future.

On one hand I can understand why Carrie would be upset, but why would leaking songs prevent them from making an album? The OW demo only got around to diehard fans, so it's not like everybody has heard it. Carrie would hardly be the first artist to think that a song has been compromised by the release anything short of the completely finished version of a song that she, her producer, the engineer and the instrumentalists had had time to realize from start to finish. I often find it interesting to hear a song in various developmental stages. But it is true that one can't get back the first time one listens to a song. If that's something to which the artist attaches a lot of significance as the one that shapes a listener's experience of a song, then it's not a surprise that a demo leak would prevent a song's inclusion on an album. I guess I just don't understand why it's officially ruled out forever, when it's obviously a fan favorite song, and a fantastic song at that. I can understand her being upset that it leaked (and that it was spread around so much), but I don't understand why that translates into refusing to put the song on any album in the future. If I'm not mistaken, most of the leaks were of songs cowritten by writers signed to Wrensong Publishing (certainly the Ashley Monroe cowrites and the Bill Anderson/Jon Randall cowrites leaked via Wrensong). There was some breach of trust there that led to the leaks, and it is easy to imagine a strict policy of retribution there -- leak the working tapes, your publishing house doesn't get the cuts. And missing out on a Carrie cut is a pretty steep price to pay for these folks. From what I have seen, Carrie seems to value the ability to trust over most things in her professional relationships. It's a real shame that "Oklahoma Wind" may have been a casualty of that (and that Bill Anderson and Jon Randall lost out on a Carrie cut). But on the other hand, strict adherence to the policy is probably the best way to ensure that similar breaches don't occur at other publishing houses. Sure, Carrie is fighting against a leak-infested reality that most fans have settled into. But it's understandable why she is taking a stand.

I'm sure the demo and the final product would sound 100% different anyway, and the general public has no clue of the OW demo's existence. Plus the song is not in great quality at all. I had to look up the lyrics to understand what she was saying on the verses in most parts. So I don't really understand why Carrie would completely write off not allowing OW on any album ever. The vast majority of people that have heard the leaked demo of OW will still purchase the song and her album if OW ends up on there. It's not like people would be like "Oh, well I have this LQ acoustic demo of OW so I'm not gonna buy the HQ studio recording." Most people that would buy OW would never know of this leaked demo and of the people that do know, most of them are dying for a studio recording on an album. I just don't understand how Carrie is thinking this through. OW is a gem and needs to be recorded on Carrie's album.

Damn. Been gone a day and some sort of hell breaks loose. Interesting. I don't entirely agree with Carrie's stance, and I think it's somewhat silly to let a gem like "Oklahoma Wind" go to waste just because she's a bit scorned. But in the end it is her career and her album so she's entitled to do whatever she wants.

Thanks for explaining it that way, dudley. That makes a lot of sense, and makes it easier to understand Carrie's decision. It's not necessarily about this specific instance - it's more about preventing those kind of leaks from happening in the future. If people know there are consequences like that to leaking, the chances of a leak happening decrease significantly.
Perhaps this is why there's yet to be a single demo of any Carrie co-writes leaking for this era.

Carrie has always taken her stand strongly since the start of her career (e.g. not succumbing to pop debut album, fighting against remixes etc), so I'm not surprised as well that she's fighting to make sure no one betrays that trust again.

Ah. Carrie's post was actually really tame. Actually she didn't sound anywhere near as upset as I had been led to believe.

Brings me back to the Kelly demo leak days...of course, that was like 70 songs, not two.
The only part of her frustration that I don't really get or agree with--and I may be off because I can't read what she wrote, only what people have said--is the songwriter's losing money angle. She's actually, in the end, the one denying them that by refusing to put a leaked demo on the album. Now, if it was a demo for someone else to sing, that makes more sense, because I can see how country artists would feel less comfortable performing a song that already has Carrie's voice on it. But if it was always for her, why is one great track leaking automatically out of the running? Totally her call, but seems like a knee-jerk reaction that would only really hurt her and her team in the end.

She doesn't even mention money in her post. Somebody posted a summary over at CFANS which had led me to believe that she was upset that the song was out there and the writers were going unrewarded. But, in actuality, nothing like that is even addressed in her post.
Sorry for the confusion, it's just that the mods had deleted the thread Carrie replied in which left me summarizing a summary.

Judging by our lack of info on this new cd Carrie's stance on this has worked. :) Now I just wished she would throw us a bone and give us some kind of concrete info on the cd.

Perhaps she said what she said to scare us all off of going around and sharing any future links to demo's. I can't believe someone actually posted that they would share OW on the FC ???. Dumb ass! I wouldn't be surprised if OW does show upon a distant future album because people seem to like it so much.

I know something you all don't know I know this for a fact because I have a ticket to said "something"... I was asked to keep it TOP-SECRET only giving slight hints to build anticipation. So here is a little bit... It has something to do with CMT and the Superbowl. News about it should be out VERY soon but I thought I'd give something to add to the before-album discussions. And yes, in this I'm bragging as well. I've never once known something like this before the masses, so the feeling is great! Now I know how it feels for all you who have access to her music before the rest of us!

Well, I know CMT Crossroads was planning to do something at the Superbowl this year, weren't they? But we hadn't heard which artists it would be for. Now I'm guessing Carrie! And I'm still feeling like her Crossroads partner will be Steven Tyler/Aerosmith.

Don't even count me as excited if the Crossroads is with Steven Tyler. But, yay for exposure.

I'm surprised they'd be doing it so soon. I figured they'd wait until her new album came out so they could perform some new material for the episode. But maybe they still will? At least the lead single?

If it is Steven Tyler, I can just imagine his JTTW version, "Jesus take the wheel, hep, hep, hep, take it from my hands". Or, I could be surprised. I'm just saying. As for the PR value, uh, yea.

Wow. So I guess we should be counting on a live broadcast of Carrie & Steven Tyler's Crossroads special come February 4th? Exciting.
That EW summary linked above is great, too. It's like Carrie's telling me everything I want to hear. :'(

I want a Carrie-Adele crossover Me too but is she even better from her surgery yet? That pairing would be HUGE!! :o Plus I can see Adele singing Carrie's songs more so that Aerosmith/Steven. However, maybe they won't even do JTTW.... ;)
