Thanks dudley, for the sensible and well thought-out post.
I think most of the shocked reactions come from different persona expectations about the release date.
I'm disappointed that the wait is still pretty far away, but if that's what's best for the new album then I'm all for it. Plus, it's not like we won't hear anything from Carrie till May. I'm sure that besides the lead single which will be coming very soon, there will be lots of other things lined up as well. I really hope as well that people won't judge the new guy at Arista before the new album era has even begun. All the speculations and pessimism only takes away from the excitement surrounding the new album. Let's just wait and see first.

^^Makes sense. I've waited this long, and if the album is as good as predicted, it'll be worth the wait.

I'm a little confused by the hysterics considering most ~sane, ~intelligent, ~realistic stans have been predicting / expecting a mid March - late April album release date for a while now. I mean the first of May really isn't that far off from the majority of the expected dates I've seen posted around the webz.
On another note, the FC Party is going to kick ass this year. Everything is going to be so fresh. I can't wait.

I really wouldn't mind a May 1 release. We've waited this long, what's an extra month or so? If this is album is truly going to be as awesome as anticipated, I can wait as long as they want...well, not TOO long ;). And to everyone who thinks May is a bad month to release an album, I don't think the month really matters. GaGa's Born This Way album came out in May, and it seems to be doing pretty well. Considering how much people are anticipating new Carrie music, I think she'll be fine, no matter what month the album is released in.

Looks like the May 1 release date is just a rumor. Carrie says even she doesn't know the release date yet.

Now I'm officially getting excited! I've been trying to not get my hopes up too far with the release of the album and the single but now things seem to actually be getting done! I've learned from past albums to not speculate too much. Things will happen when they happen. I'm glad that it seems the May release date is a rumor too! Squeeeee! Haha!

AH! THAT BLOG To summarize: -Done recording (except for one background vocal) -She'll listen to the final product over the holiday once the producers are done -Have the lead single down to two (great) songs -Might have an album title selected -Release dates circulating across the internet are just rumors. -The photo shoot she did this past week that we were all speculating about? Single cover & potentially some album art packaging. -Still hasn't done all of her Xmas shopping. Love this girl. SO EXCITED!

Adding to the summary posted above: They have got the lead single narrowed down between a song they received early in the album making process (a non co-write?) & a recent Carrie co-write that apparently blew everyone away.

Looks like the May 1 release date is just a rumor. Carrie says even she doesn't know the release date yet. The New Release Schedule I receive from a major label says may 1st. BUT, that is 4+ months away so of course it could easily change. Madonna's album is out in late March. Maybe April for Carrie?

I'm so excited. By the looks of it we'll have a single soon after Christmas? Mid/late January?

Maybe she'll release the same day as Madge like she did with Some Hearts Ooooh if it follows the same pattern with sales, I certainly don't mind that

Wasn't Madonna the one that kept a 7x platinum album from being number one?

Wasn't Madonna the one that kept a 7x platinum album from being number one? She was, but both albums were debuting, and at the time Carrie was relatively unheard of by most... Madonna - the complete opposite. Now Carrie is arguably more relevant than Madonna so things could go differently. But Madonna is Madonna, you never know.

Wasn't Madonna the one that kept a 7x platinum album from being number one? but remember that it was REALLY close and we didn't know who would be #1 until the last HDD update... I don't see Madonna topping Carrie in the US... But worldwide, Madonna would own!!

I'm here for a new Carrie album. But I can definitely wait till May 1st if it means the album will be perfect. :)
There better be another BHC/LN/UI type song on the album. It wouldn't be a Carrie album without one.

Forbes: Carrie Underwood seventh highest paid woman in musicChecotah native Carrie Underwood's been named No. 7 to Forbes annual listing of top-earning women in music. The magazine estimated the country starlet earned $20 million this year and the "Idol" winner earned more than Kelly Clarkson and Adam Lambert combined. The top three on the Forbes list were Lady Gaga ($90 million), Taylor Swift ($45 million) and Katy Perry ($44 million). USA Today also reports that Underwood's confirmed that she's finished with the early stages of her next album, expected in 2012. Methodology: Our numbers encompass all pretax income earned from May 2010 to May 2011, before subtracting agent and manager fees. The totals were compiled with the help of data from Pollstar, RIAA and others, as well as extensive interviews with industry insiders including lawyers, managers, concert promoters, agents and, in some cases, the musicians themselves. www.forbes.com/sites/zackomalleygreenburg/2011/12/14/the-top-earning-women-in-music-lady-gaga-taylor-swift-katy-parry-alicia-keys/
