HG has every right to his opinion: JLo's recording career had been dead for five years. Most of us who have followed the charts for decades and know a thing or two about artist life-cycles would have agreed that she was lucky to even chart on Hot 100 Airplay in 2011. So things changed. It happens very occasionally. Was Paula Abdul guaranteed to have an airplay hit with "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" - she was kinda in the same boat!

TTWE still slaying! And theres nothing bad about its digital showing thus far....E.T has sold like 2.5 million and its been the top song of the year, TTWE selling a million is very good and like fanatic says, her digital showings are because she doesnt promote her songs really. they just get thrown out there with a video and hardly anything else

Damn I wish the record labels had put out CD singles for "Oops" and "You Drive Me Crazy" or even "Toxic" (although that was a little late in the game).
More than anyone else, Britney's early chart career is so uneven compared with her recent hit streak.

HolidayGuy is not "pressed" about anything, thanks much. :) And like most other people, I am not immune to thinking one thing and another thing happening. Scary, I know. Firstly, I never said anything related to either of those two tracks would happen with certainty- if I say "more than likely," that's what I mean. That leaves a chance for something else to happen- and in these two cases, it did. I'd think people understand that. In any event, one of the cases involved mega hype and promo on the No. 1 TV show in America, and also having a red-hot collaborator did not hurt. I feel like it'd be better if you just admitted you were wrong and moved on. This is really being blown out of proportion but you stated many times that you didn't expect "On the Floor" to even enter top 40 on Airplay and it did. Whenever it had a small petty increase, I'd see a comment from you saying it wouldn't go anywhere. Guess what? It did go somewhere, you're human, your prediction was wrong, we're all wrong sometimes, some people just need to get their ego's out of the way and admit it.

This is like the 10th time you've copy and pasted her acheivments somewhere...we get it.. I wonder though who are the artists that have scored #1s in both hot 100 and bb 200 charts in three decades.

Brit's hot streak continues; hopefully Jeremih fades more quickly & J. Lo slows down.
I'm not worried about Rolling. If anything, next week should be it as it steadily gains on ET in airplay and the wonderful Glee cover airs.

Well don't come to the Britney Spears thread because I am doing that and adding her weekly billboard 200 albums position with that stuff at the bottom...doing the same with Nicki's thread. Just thought I'd warn you... I will present it at anytime...and it's probably more like I have copied and pasted it 20 times or so by now. Muah... ;)

You're right, there really is no guarantee of anything- but, the Idol exposure didn't hurt in propelling the single and maximizing exposure- that much we can say. Oh no you didn't list that paid-for Walk of Fame as a part of the "legacy,'"did you? All of the others are chart/sales feats, which is fine and impressive- but she has not really left much of an artistic legacy up through now, outside of a couple of singles. And she may not- but her chart/sales legacy (especially on a worldwide scale) is indisputable- most successful female pop star of the last 12 years and change. I did...well I focused on sales because statistics are hard to manipulate in comparison to something like "impact...appeal...etc." I could go outside of that range but it would be too opinion driven.

More than anyone else, Britney's early chart career is so uneven compared with her recent hit streak. People thought single sales would affect album sales. I think if napster and those illegal downloads didn't keep her from selling over 10M then releasing it as a cd single might not have done much damage to album sales. Plus, many fans would have purchased both the cd and cd single. I think that Oops...could have been #1 although I don't really like that song Crazy could have been top 3 Toxic would have been top 3 because Yeah was too dominant Also, Slave/Everytime would have probably gone top 10.

Of course this is academic at this point. but I think if Paula had released a single during AI's season 2 or 3 it still would have flopped. She still would have been in her early 40s and the musical climate of 2003 / 2004 would have destroyed her (NO dance pop artist would have stood a chance against 50, Em, Alicia et al). It also didn't help that Paula's new singles sucked.

^^ Judge me if you will but I actually thought "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" was not a bad song. What really crippled Paula was that while she was an affable judge on AI, her last hits were early 90s. New Jack Swing was far past its prime by the time AI became the number one show in America and her fanbase had largely defected after her absence from music for so many years. J.Lo remained commercially successful until 2003 and had a hit with LL Cool J in 2006, so her fanbase, while thinner than it was during her peak, has somewhat remained in tact. This made her comeback not as unlikely as Abdul, but we'll see how successful her album performs this week.

JLo wasn't hurt by the fact that she held some relevance outside of Idol, while Paula was just 'that Idol judge'. JLo still had a "name", despite no hits. Paula's last hit was like a decade and a half ago so...

And "Oops" definitely could if it had a CD release, for various reasons. I think "Everytime" is the song I most wanted to reach top-10. That's one of my favorite singles from her.

With physical singles: Sometimes could've been #1 cos it was top 15 airplay (#15) Crazy could've been #1 cos it was top 10 airplay (#6) Oops could've been #1 cos it was top 10 airplay (#8) Lucky could've been top 3 cos it was top 20 airplay (#18) Slave could've been top 10 cos it was top 30 airplay (#30) Toxic & Everytime had physical singles right? Cos Toxic peak was #10 airplay but could make #9 Hot 100 and Everytime peak was #16 airplay but could make #15 Hot 100.

^I think so, but by the In The Zone era, physical singles were dead.
Then again, with physical singles, ...BOMT wouldn't be the 14xPlatinum smash album it is. Christina did physical singles for all her singles (and those were also bigger in airplay), and only sold 9xPlatinum.
I do think Lucky needed the physical release, as it had a very short run.

44M and 40k are quite different. The first thing that came to my mind was 40k difference between Adele and E.T. in sales.

I see the point the other poster stated in that Crazy was a remix and not on the album so it wouldn't have been a damage to albums sales...that leaves Sometimes. When did Xtina go 9x platinum? :o

Finally Judas reverses the series of negative updates.
Till The World Ends is fast nipping at the heels of Toxic to become the biggest radio hit of Britney's career.

So happy to see TTWE becoming Britney's biggest airplay hit! She keeps shattering everyone's expectations without even trying. Such an amazing flawless legend!

I really thought TTWE was slowing down. Guess I was wrong -- after seeing the S&M remix have such a temporary effect I figured the TTWE remix would have the same fate.
Adele could be #2 in airplay within a week or two, unless BEP keeps accelerating.

poproyalty- in terms of BDS numbers, "Toxic" is NOT Spears' biggest airplay hit. It topped out at 70m-80m (more likely closer to 75m). I guess you didn't see my other posts in regards to this matter, with supporting info. :) Via BDS, "Hold it Against Me" probably attained her highest weekly audience tally- though TTWE may surpass it.
RE "Toxic"- it had a 12-inch vinyl single, not a CD single. And, like any other radio hits from that era, there's a lot of "coulda-reached-this-number" if a CD single was released. Backstreet Boys and N Sync also probably would have had a handful of No. 1 hits, too, for that matter.
As for "egos" (no apostrophe), none here- I figured "On the Floor" would not take off as it has, so I was wrong on that count. But am I surprised that it did, given the circumstances and promo? Absolutely not.
