Also nice that Stevie topped 50K- not too bad for a woman who has not scored a notable radio hit in more than two decades. But, she's an established legend as part of Fleetwood Mac, and while her solo material for the most part has not rivaled the FM material, she's still got a decent fanbase.

Beastie Boys Score No. 2 Debut on Billboard 200, Adele Holds at No. 1

While Adele's "21" spends a lucky seventh non-consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, a near-record eight debuts arrive in the top 10, led by Beastie Boys' "Hot Sauce Committee Part 2."

"21" holds atop the list with 155,000 (up 26%) thanks to likely Mother's Day-fueled purchases while a number of the new entries on in the top 10 probably benefit from the holiday as well. With seven weeks at No. 1, "21" marks the second-longest run atop the list for an album by a woman since 2000 next to only Taylor Swift's 11-week reign with "Fearless" in 2008 and early 2009.

Adele has more reason to celebrate -- the album's first single, "Rolling in the Deep," reaches No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart for the first time (294,000 downloads; down 2%). More on that in just a moment.

Back on the Billboard 200, Beastie Boys' "Hot Sauce Committee Part 2" bows appropriately at No. 2 with 128,000. It's the rap trio's first proper studio release -- backing out the 2007's instrumental set "The Mix-Up" -- since 2004's "To the 5 Boroughs," which debuted at No. 1 with 360,000. "Hot Sauce" is the Boys' first studio set to miss the top slot since "Check Your Head" debuted and peaked at No. 10 in 1992. All told, "Hot Sauce" is the hip-hop act's sixth top 10, stretching back to its full-length debut, 1987's "Licensed to Ill," which spent seven weeks at No. 1.

With "Hot Sauce" the first of eight debuts in the top 10, it marks only the third time in chart history that we've had that many new entries in the region. It last happened on the tally dated Dec. 4, 2010, when Jackie Evancho's "O Holy Night" EP led the debut parade at No. 2. Previous to that, it first occurred on Oct. 17, 2009.

"Now 38" starts at No. 3 with 124,000 -- the second "Now" set released this year timed perfectly to a holiday that lends itself to music gift shopping. Earlier, "Now 37" hit retail on Feb. 8 -- the first time a "Now" album had come out the week of Valentine's Day.

Fleet Foxes' "Helplessness Blues" starts at No. 4 with 91,000 while Jennifer Lopez's "Love?" launched at No. 5 with 83,000. Fleet Foxes' last album, its 2008 self-titled set, debuted at No. 83 -- eventually peaking at No. 36 the following year. J.Lo's last English-language album, 2007's "Brave," bowed at No. 12 with 53,000.

Stevie Nicks' "In Your Dreams" -- her first studio album since 2001's No. 5-peaking "Trouble In Shangri-La," enters at No. 6 with 52,000. It's the Fleetwood Mac member's fifth top 10 on her own and seventh solo studio release.

Sade's second greatest hits effort, "The Ultimate Collection," bows at No. 7 (38,000). It's the group's (yes, Sade is a group led by singer Sade Adu) ninth top 10 album in a row -- its entire output. They're second to only Led Zeppelin for the most career-launching consecutive top 10s. Led Zep did it with its first 10 albums from 1969 through 1983.

Musiq Soulchild's "MusiqInTheMagiq" motors in at No. 8 (35,000). Musiq's last release, "OnMyRadio," debuted and peaked at No. 11 in 2008 with 91,000. Mumford & Sons' "Sigh No More" is the second holdover in the top 10 from last week's chart as it descends six rungs to No. 9 (32,000). Closing out the top 10 is Sixx: A.M.'s "This Is Gonna Hurt," bowing at No. 10 with 30,000. The act, led by Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx, saw its first set, "The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack," debut and peak at No. 62 in 2007.

Right outside the top 10 is Fleetwood Mac's 1977 album "Rumours," which re-enters at No. 11 with just under 30,000 (up 1,951%) thanks to exposure gleaned from the May 3 episode of Fox TV's "Glee," which dedicated its entire hour to the album. Of its almost 30,000 haul last week, a full 91% were downloads. The week previous, the set sold just over 1,000 total copies. This is the highest re-entry for an album since the Rolling Stones' "Exile On Main St." was reissued and came back on the list at No. 2 on June 5, 2010.

Over on the Digital Songs chart, Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" hits No. 1 for the first time, selling 294,000 downloads (down 2%) as last week's topper, Katy Perry's "E.T." slips to No. 2 with 237,000 (down 21%).

Following Lady Antebellum's premiere performance of "Just a Kiss" on "American Idol" last week (May 5), it debuts at No. 3 with 211,000 sold -- the act's second-largest sales week for a single. (Its "Need You Now" glowed at No. 2 a little over a year ago with 212,000 following the trio's Grammy Awards performance of the song.) "Kiss" is from the trio's forthcoming third studio album, due out later this year.

Jennifer Lopez's "On the Floor" rises four slots to No. 4 (175,000; up 25%) in the wake of her album's release and her performance of the song on "American Idol" (May 5). Trailing Lopez is Bruno Mars' "The Lazy Song," slipping one rung to No. 5 with 172,000 (down 12%).

Lady A's single isn't the only debut in the top 10, as David Guetta's "Where Them Girls At" (featuring Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj) starts at No. 6 with 162,000. Pitbull's "Give Me Everything" rises four slots to No. 7 (153,000; up 25%), the Black Eyed Peas' "Just Can't Get Enough" falls three to No. 8 (148,000; down 16%) and Britney Spears' "Till the World Ends" collapses six positions to No. 9 (126,000; down 49%) after its remix-fueled rise last week. Closing out the top 10 is Chris Brown's "Look at Me Now," sliding down one to No. 10 (117,000; down 11%).

Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending May 8) totaled 6.23 million units, up 16% compared to the sum last week (5.38 million) and up 3% compared to the comparable sales week of 2010 (6.07 million). Year to date album sales stand at 108.11 million, down 2% compared to the same total at this point last year (109.78 million).

Digital track sales this past week totaled 24.03 million downloads, down 5% compared to last week (25.31 million) and up 9% stacked next to the comparable week of 2010 (21.95 million). Year to date track sales are at 462.37 million, up 10% compared to the same total at this point last year (421.99 million).

Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2010 when: Justin Bieber's "My World 2.0" headed back to No. 1, rising four slots, with 60,000 (down 6%). The highest debut was the National's "High Violet," which bowed at No. 3 with 51,000. The previous week's leader, Godsmack's "Oracle," fell to No. 9 with 43,000 (down 63%).

I had not realized that Lopez's Rebirth debuted with 261K, with a track that only peaked around No. 30 in airplay. Granted, that followed a more successful album than Love? and it was 2005, but it also did not have the benefit of weekly Idol exposure and a top 10 airplay and sales hit.

Rebirth had a solid debut no doubt about it but the fact that it so quickly crumbled is what makes it a flop in many people's eyes I think. I see Love? maintaining some stability in sales, hopefully reaching Gold in the end. Obviously a second hit single in "I'm Into You" would greatly foster this

^I think people need more singles or songs to convince them. Her profile may be up, but even I, who loved J. Lo back in the day, needed some convincing. It took hearing On The Floor, I'm Into You and Papi to convince me to buy the album. I'm sure it's no different for others. I actually think I'm Into You will help sell the album.

Also, is it possible to see a year-to-year gain? I wonder how big of news that will be. If you notice, album sales started really plummeting with the economy. People are spending money on music again, which can easily be obtained illegally. I can't help but feel a little optimistic about it. I guess it's all mostly thanks to Adele though. I wonder where we would be had she not released or been as successful?

Well aside from Adele, the sales on the rest of the chart seem to be up a bit from last year if you look at the #20 album, #40 album, #100 album etc on a weekly basis compared to the ones from 2010.

And it should be interesting to see how the year-to-year comparisons look the week of the 24th because that's the week Gaga is poised to open to huge numbers and there are a few other notable releases that week I think. On the flipside though we will see how the market fares compared to the weeks Eminem dominated with Recovery

Since 1991? Can't be true.

Pearl Jam released Vitalogy on vinyl only in 1994 and it debuted at No. 55 and sold over 30 000 copies.
