ADELE’S THE REAL DEAL U.K. Pop Diva Will Spend an Eighth Week on Top; The Lonely Island, Christina Perri, Tyler the Creator Bow
May 11, 2011
Can you say “Rolling”?
So far, 2011 has been the year of Adele, as her XL/Columbia album, 21, looks headed for an eighth week atop the HITS Album sales chart, with sales north of 100k, which should send her total soaring over 1.6 million here in the U.S.
Topping the list of chart newcomers next week will be Universal Republic’s The Lonely Island, the music-comedy troupe headed by SNL’s Andy Samberg with partners Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. The band’s sophomore album, Turtleneck & Chain, the follow-up to 2009’s Incredibad, should do between 65-70k, impressive for a comedy album.
Fueled by the massive, 2.2 million selling “Jar of Hearts,” Christina Perri’s Atlantic Records debut, Lovestrong, should do around 45-50k, and maybe more, if there’s a Glee effect from Lea Michele’s performance of the song last night, one of three performances from the episode in iTunes Top 10 this morning.
Odd Future rap provocateur Tyler, the Creator’s XL/Beggars bow, Goblin, the follow-up to his much publicized 2009 Bastard mixtape, is on target for 40-45k.
The reunited Cars’ new Hear Music/Concord album, Move Like This, their first since 1987’s Door to Door, looks to be in the 30-35k range.
Glee’s lovable show choir teacher Mr. Schuester, Matthew Morrison, should see his self-titled Mercury debut sell in the 15-20k neighborhood, as will Columbia’s Raphael Saadiq and Manchester Orchestra.
The market was up 16% vs. last week, up 3% vs. same week last year and still down 2% year to date, which is pretty remarkable since we're coming off at least seven years of double-digit deficits.
Now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work on Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign.

Awful for Matthew Morrison considering he's on one of the most market-friendly shows on TV right now. Anyways, it might get a new high once he does his own song on the finale.

Is that acceptable for The Cars? I mean, it's the band's first album in 24 years!

I think that is pretty impressive for The Cars, especially with all things considering! Also, wow at The Lonely Island! :O The album has some pretty good tracks, but some are just either way, happy for them Shocked about Morrison. They should be promoing during GLEE. It is a great pop album though. And of course, ADELE is slaying it!!!!!!

Good numbers for The Lonely Island
Morrison seems to be rather quiet about this project, I don't think I've seen it promoted anywhere which is unusual given his great visibility on Glee
I really hope Adele is going to be on the American Idol season finale, with this week going above 100k yet again an airing of "Someone Like You" on AI would send sales even higher

Adele will scan close to 4 million by year-end. If she gets another big radio hit, then it's possible. Otherwise, I can see it closer to 3m.

Kinda expected more for Tyler but that's still okay.... That's about 20-23% of his Twitter following, which is really quite impressive.

No surprise that Adele holds onto the #1 spot next week with her XL/Columbia smash 21. In fact, she's expected to stay at the top until the week ending May 29, when Lady Gaga will debut at #1. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:
Adele 21 (XL/Columbia) 120-130k Now 38 (Capitol/EMI) 75-80k *Lonely Island (Universal Republic) 60-65k *Christina Perri (Atlantic) 45-50k *Tyler, The Creator (XL/Beggars) 45-50k Beastie Boys (Capitol/EMI) 40-45k Jennifer Lopez (Island/IDJ) 35-40k *The Cars (Hear Music/Concord) 30-35k Mumford & Sons (Glassnote) 27-30k Fleet Foxes (Sub Pop) 27-30k Jason Aldean (Broken Bow) 24-27k Lemonade Mouth (Walt Disney) 19-22k Foo Fighters (Roswell/RCA/RMG) 19-22k *Manchester Orchestra (Columbia) 17-20k Adele 19 (Columbia) 17-20k Chris Brown (Jive/JLG) 17-20k Stevie Nicks (Reprise) 17-20k Bruno Mars (New Elektra) 17-20k

Kinda expected more for Tyler but that's still okay.... i've been reading a lot of people expecting more from him, but i don't see that as reasonable. ask anyone outside of hardcore hip-hop fans about tyler, the creator and you will be met with blank stares. no radio, 1 video, no real promo, lyrics/subject matter that are far from mainstream, and still selling 50k? that's amazing in my book.

When was the last time an act had their debut go back into the Top 20 because of the success of the followup?

I wonder for how much longer she'll keep selling after the 'Rolling In The Deep' hype has faded. She'll need a big 2nd single.
