I really think it's time a teen male breaks through in the Country genre. I may not enjoy Scotty's voice, personally, but that's true!

I'm not saying I won't root for Scotty, but for me to root for him, he needs better material than this song. This song is probably among the worst out there right now. Hunter Hayes might be more of a country-pop type guy, but he's very talented, and I hope the success of the AI country teenagers doesn't hurt his chances of breaking through. Because Hunter's "Storm Warning" is much better than this song..

Hunter and Scotty I see both becoming big in 2012, even competing for "Best new artist" on some Country award shows. Hunter has the pop Country crowd locked and Scotty has the traditional crowd locked. Hunter is almost 20 and Scotty is almost 18, so Scotty will soon technically be the only "teen" between the two. "This Big" I think is great but the other song of his "Out of Summertime" I feel will be his breakout hit. Its a Tim Nichols written song and I could have heard anyone from Kenny to Tim to Dierks singing it. Scotty was lucky to get ahold of it. While "This Big" may crack the top 20, "Summertime" may hit the top 5 and be his lead into the first signs of superstardom that will surely be shown when his full CD comes out if its as good as "Summertime" is!

Hunter Hayes actually looks like he's 15 or 16 so he could still be considered a 'teen' singer for years, much like Bryan White was. As for McCreery's 'breakout' hit, I'm pretty sure "I Love You This Big" is that song.

Very nice review Scotty McCreery 19 Entertainment/Mercury I Love You This Big Not being a regular viewer of American Idol, listening to this single is my introduction to Scotty McCreery. If I hadn't seen a photo first, I'd think that he was a mature country crooner of 35 or so. It's no surprise that he wowed the TV audiences this season with that big booming baritone. The first single is solid Country music, showing a lot of potential for this young man to be a power balladeer in the realm of John Michael Montgomery or Tim McGraw. "I Love You This Big," is an impressive first step. Impacting now. By: Jim Asker www.allaccess.com/country/cool-new-music

Currently on Mediabase as of today he has had 66 adds since the song being released only a week and half ago, and that is out of 236 reporting stations. Infact 21 adds just this morning! Alot of new artists don't get that in a month much less a day! WOW! So far this week he has been added by 36 stations, 12 more than Carrie and Brad's single!
Update time. As of mid day Scotty has had 40 adds JUST TODAY!! He's smokin' the Carrie/Brad song (His 55 adds this week compared to 41 for them)! He has total of 85 adds in 10 days!!! He should make an even higher jump on the billboard chart this week when it comes out Thursday. This isn't normal for a new artist I don't think, isn't this more apt for a major artist?

After debuting at #32 on last week's BB chart, McCreery will probably move up to #29 or 30 this week. He could pass the Brantley Gilbert song, and Miranda Lambert and Ashton Shpeherd going recurrent would give him a three-notch move.

Wow right now he is at 64 adds this week with 94 total. No one is even near him in his week 2! He should break 100 today. I mean the kid DOUBLED his radio station adds in a matter of hours. Seriously is this normal?

Its now saying 100% reporting is in. So that means 97 adds with 67 this week,52 just today. Carrie and Brad fell behind him with 58 adds this week. So Scotty is officially the #1 added artist on Country radio this week. Who would have thought it just 2 weeks ago. This kid is off to a phenominal start.

He just won American Idol. And I don't think the Brad/Carrie song has even been officially sent to all radio stations either, though if it has, it was only very recently. That one hasn't had an official adds date though either, since it more or less took off on its own as "Old Alabama" held at #1.

Winning American Idol hasn't been a ticket to this quick of radio play in many years. Not even Carrie got this quick of play after she won. So its not just the American Idol factor playing in. Listeners are really reacting positively to the song, even ones who didn't watch Idol in the first place. With or without the Idol factor this is still quite a milestone for Scotty and a rarity for a new artist making the rounds with his first single.

^Carrie was the trial run, though, and there's been no country artist on Idol since then to do as well as she did. They weren't going to debut her song this high, but she had a steady rise and "Jesus, Take The Wheel" is one of the biggest hits of the past decade.
So no one really knew how Carrie's career would turn out. She was the first major country succes from Idol, but she won't be the last. Still, her debut exploded pretty big, and her career...well, we all know it's going great :) So nothing about Scotty's decent start has surprised me much, other than the fact that radio is buying this as a good song. I like Scotty and I want to root for him, but this song is not good and I can't root for this one. I hope, for my sake at least, that this doesn't become one of the biggest hits like "Jesus, Take The Wheel", "The House That Built Me", "As Good As I Once Was", "Live Like You Were Dying", and others from among the biggest hits in the last 10+ years.

I actually really like this song now. It took a bit to grow on me but I think it's sweet. I'm glad it's starting to be successful. :)

Don't worry jhomes, ILYTB won't become as big as those songs lol. It'll do great and probably hit top 5, but it won't be that huge. It is surprising in the way that nobody expected this particular song to do this well, and Idol has nothing to do with it, winning Idol doesn't guarantee anything anymore. The day after he won everyone was predicting this song would die after a week, but it looks like it won't be dying anytime soon imo.

I think the reason a lot of us thought it would "go away" is because it doesn't seem like the type of quality song to be a lead single. But it does appear that Mercury is going to actively promote this as his first radio single. I still don't find it surprising that Scotty is doing well--it's the buzz from Idol, and he's different than recent winners. Why? Because he's COUNTRY, and country music fans are loyal. I need to listen to this again--not to make myself like it (doubt that will happen), but to see if I think it can go to #1. The buzz and hype is there, and again, I like the kid's voice...but this song is pretty lame. I'm not trying to stir up any controversy...it's just my opinion on the song.

In Atlanta when Scotty was performing at Microsoft he said that to him the song reminded him of Christ on the cross saying "I Love you this big" with his arms open wide. That put this song in a whole new perspective to me.

I like both singers, but I don't think this is a good song and I would be very surprised if it got close to #1. I could see it missing the top 10 or maybe even the top 20 if Mercury decides to go with a different song for a lead single.

It could also be that people just like his voice. Personally, what I like the most about the song is Scotty's voice, and he sounds even better on Out of Summertime. They should release that song as his second single.

That put this song in a whole new perspective to me. I can see that. I'm not saying people have to agree with me about the song. Personally, the song just comes off as too generic and cheesy to me. The title alone makes me think of the Jimmy Wayne song "I Love You This Much", which was much better (both lyrically and grammatically ;) ) I do like Scotty's voice though, and I like Lauren a lot though. I'm just a little disappointed, though, because with such big buzz, he could take a really strong song and it would do well, and maybe have more of a "legacy". With this song, they're just playing it safe. I do want him and Lauren to do well, but again, I'm waiting on better material from them.

It's impossible to compare his success to other Idol winners because they weren't country, and Underwood didn't release her coronation single. His success thus far is almost entirely because of winning Idol, because newcomers simply don't take off like this on their own merits. It's also way too early to say which way listeners are trending on this single, it hasn't even been out two weeks yet. I'm glad I'm not alone on all this. A format superstar like Carrie or Brad might be able to take a song this weak to #1, but I'm not buying that a newcomer can do so, regardless of the hype surrounding him. I foresee a run like some of Toby's recent singles; rise fast into the T20, then flame out in 12-15 weeks. Given the uniqueness of this situation, I could see it cracking the top 10, but no higher.

"This Big" litterly tripled the stations playing it today, so it looks like the song is gonna fly up the charts very fast, passing alot of other songs that have been out for awhile. I give it til mid July and it will probably peak in the top 10. Then it will be the perfect time to release "Summertime" since mid to end of July is when kids are coming "out of summertime" to get back to school, so this song would just be pure gold for great timing for a release then. If I were a betting man I'd put alot of money down on Mercury doing just that.

It would only be about 8 weeks old at that point, and there's no way it can amass the 25 mil it needs to reach the top 10 in 6-8 weeks. (for comparison, it gained 1 mil this week). I'm not saying they won't release that song, I haven't heard it, but opinion seems to be that it's much better than this. But if they're going to release it during the summer, they'll have to pull this to do it, or wait til next summer and make it the 3rd single.

Yeah you're right about that, it even could still work around late August or early September, since thats right at the end of the Summer and its more of a Summer leading into Fall song. This is a Tim Nichols song and radio loves playing stuff he writes, so they may go with this as the single right before his album drops. If "Summer" came out in Sept and the CD in November, that'd still be good timing.

It picked up a bunch of adds on Country Aircheck and this is what a "callout research" is saying: This week we asked Radio's most Loyal Listeners scoring songs online at Radiofeedback from Radio Station Loyal Listener and Social Media databases to weigh in on the singles from America Idol Winner Scotty McCreery and runner up Lauren Alaina. These musically conservative listeners and for sure "Country Music" traditionalists give a solid thumbs up to both, at least overall.. With Scotty ranking as the # 8 song overall out of the 35 songs in the sample with "I Love You This Big" and at # 12 Like A Lot / Passion for the week.. Lauren debuts "Like My Mother Does" at # 15 and # 25 Like A Lot / Passion.. Both titles skew to 35+ adults for their strength and are stronger with Females..
