This might seem boring/mediocre, but it's a boring/mediocre country song and Scotty's a country singer trying to get played on country radio. So he got a much better deal than most other Idol winners, who might have been R&B or pop or soft rock or whatever, but were still stuck with the typical "I'm Blessed To Be Proud Of Rainbows In This Moment" adult contemporary winner's song anyway.
I think it's good to strike while the iron is hot instead of letting months go by without radio hearing anything from Scotty. I don't see much of a downside to ILYTB getting airplay. It's on the radio yet it's not quite seen as a "real" single--everyone knows it got picked because it was a "you just won American Idol" song, so if it stalls in three weeks it's not going to be a huge deal like it would if OOS were rejected the same way.

In Atlanta when Scotty was performing at Microsoft he said that to him the song reminded him of Christ on the cross saying "I Love you this big" with his arms open wide. That put this song in a whole new perspective to me. "His arms were stretched out, as far as they'd go, nailed to the cross, for the whole world to know — I love you this much" oh wait... that's I Love You This Much by Jimmy Wayne!

With it Top 30 already, now we know why the label is stopping the youtube leaks of the other song. Good for them, really. I'd rather hear that other song when it becomes the second single in august/sept or on the album when that comes out.

LOL at the mistake Scotty McCreery’s American Idol 10:Scotty McCreery continues to sell well, giving the show’s winner another 8,000 fans of the iTunes compilation of Scotty’s biggest Idol hits. He also has moved inside the Top 30 on the charts this week with “I Love You This Much,” which tells me that, even with a so-so single, the singer is too big of an artist (already) to not garner attention from country radio, despite what many programmers originally said about him. www.roughstock.com/blog/brad-paisley-and-jason-aldean-rule-the-album-charts-this-week

I will say this in response to the radio programmers... every single time a new idol is crowned most radio programmers now go on the defensive and say they wont play their music. Its always fun to watch them eat their words.

You'd think they'd know by now they'd know when not to even "take their shoe" off to try!

I think they should roll with this and go all out. Music video, promo, etc. And just have it be the lead single from the album.

I don't think they've done a video for one of the winners' songs since Ruben, even when the song's been a hit, like with David Cook. It wouldn't be too much effort to throw something together between show footage and new clips of Scotty in a theater or singing to a crowd or whatever. I'd like to see what they would come up with for a concept. Scotty recorded several songs yesterday, I think they will be focusing on him in the studio over doing a video that seems to be getting airplay without one.

He did a great job with this and the full version of "Check Yes or No" on the Opry last night! This song seems to be doing well around the Country this week again. I'm looking forward to see how many adds he gets next week!

I expected Scotty to do well on the country format, but honestly not with this song. It's okay, but if this is a sign of what to expect with Scotty, and I hope it is, a star is born.

This is awesome news! I am so excited that Country radio is taking so well to Scotty. I really think he's gonna be one of the big names to move alot of records and concert tickets in this decade.

^If the crowd's reaction when he appeared to sing with Josh Turner at the CMA Fest is any indication, he's going to do great :)

Up to #25 on Billboard this week and still getting strong adds! This could make the top 10 before its all said and done, not bad! I think people are genuinely liking the song and its no longer the Idol hype as some had said at first. He may very well end up having one of the top selling Country CDs of the year by the end of 2011 if his momentum keeps up thru the fall. With him touring the Country playing arenas and visiting radio stations all Summer, he should very easily keep building fans outside of Idol!
Carrie did it in 2005 now Scotty in 2011, I think Scotty just might have saved that Idol show's repuation after the past few winners never caught on nearly a tenth of what he has! Country is a good thing for Idol!

Country is a good thing for Idol! Agreed. Scotty and Lauren will become Idol's next two big stars, something they've lacked for the past 3-4 seasons. Very impressed with this song's run, and even though Lauren's song hasn't had as great of a run as Scotty's, it's still doing respectably and she's still making headlines with the CMA Fest and all. They're both going to do fine in Country music.

If Scotty McCreery lands ten number one hits like Carrie Underwood did during her first five years away from American Idol, than I can see where you are going with your line of reasoning. I do think he has a bright future ahead of him. His likability factor is certainly up there!

None of the following have had the debut single success that Scotty's currently having: Lee DeWyze Kris Allen Adam Lambert Crystal Bowersox Danny Gokey Scotty and Lauren have helped rejuvenate Idol's once-slumpy reputation. None of the artists above, which are from Idol's past few seasons, had the automatic breakout success from the show like what Scotty and Lauren are currently having. They just performed on the Grand Ole Opry, and they're not even a full month out of the finale.
