I think that is comparing apples to oranges, seeing since those five acts you mentioned are NOT geared to the country market. Danny Gokey and Crystal Bowersox both released to Country music. Crystal wasn't specifically geared towards the country market. They kinda are marketing her that way now.

Ya and hopefully they can do like Carrie and in time have Idol as their "past" where people don't even first think thats where they came from. It took Carrie til her 2nd album to start getting past Idol but with Scotty it could happen like that given his CD is a major blockbuster like her debut was and have multiple #1s. I know hes just starting but the trend looks good!

It's much better to surpass low expectations than fail to reach inflated ones, especially for someone coming from Idol. I think I'm just going to hope Scotty does well enough not to be dismissed as a flop and leave it at that for now.

With Scotty's jump to #22, it should make #20 or #19 by next week if his 4th week is as good as his first 3 have been! I know I'm hearing him alot more, so it looks like Mercury is really pushing the song! With the tour fixing to start and Scotty making radio station rounds it should be a good summer for him on the charts!

Yeah I don't expect a #1 by any means. It'd be nice but theres too much in its way. Thats something hard for any new artist to do esp with the first single. I think Easton Corbin was the last to do that with "A Little More Country." But I can see "This Big" at least peaking around #8 or so. That'd be a great set up for his first "real" single this fall from his debut album! The skys the limit at this point, Scotty is the new artist I've been most intrigued to hear since Easton! And they both prefer the traditional route, always a great thing!

With it going from 22 to 19 that may allow some stations to add it next week that haven't yet. I know some stations wait til a new song gets in the top 20 to even consider adding it.
Interesting note, no one I hear anymore is making the Turner comparison. This song and the leaked one "Out of Summertime" showed alot of people that this guy is for real and not out to copy anyone. Josh is at #16 and Scotty at #19, that'd be something if Scotty actually jumped over him. With the rate this song has been climbing thats a good possibility!

It's a shame, because even though Josh's song is a cover song, I like it a lot better than Scotty's song. I know not everyone here likes Josh's song, but I'd say the vast majority of country music listeners do, since it had been the #1 song at callout for a few weeks (and I think it's at #2 now).
Yet, it took over 30 weeks for a Josh Turner song to crack the top 20. I sure hope Scotty doesn't hurt Josh's career. Josh is known to climb the charts a little slower, but not this slow. I was especially surprised since he was coming off 2 straight #1 hits in "Why Don't We Just Dance" and "All Over Me". I don't think Scotty will pass Josh, though, because Josh will probably go recurrent before Scotty can. But I agree that Scotty is likely to outpeak Josh..
Personally, I hope Scotty's song will go away soon...it's not his fault he was given such a lame song. I'll be cautiously optimistic for his album and other singles, as opposed to this cheesy "coronation" single here.
Scotty has such a huge advantage over other new artists and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Carrie did too, but she debuted with some much stronger material while Scotty's team has pushed this coronation type of song into the top 20 and couldn't break through Randy Montana. And they haven't focused nearly as much on Lauren, whose song is better, at least to me, yet it's stuck in the 40's. It's crazy how big the difference is between 1st and 2nd place...

Carries coronation song "Inside your heaven" was awful, it didn't even make it past 50 on the Country charts. Her strong debut was her first "real" single with "Jesus take the wheel." I think "This Big" is alot better than that song. As a fan of the show out of all 10 coronation songs I think this was the best or at least tied with Kelly's "Moment Like This." Would this song be flying up the chart had some other new artist recorded it, probably not. Like Carrie tho Scotty has a built in fanbase and it shows on the chart. If this song was a dreadful as Kris Allen's Kara Diagiardi written song was that I cant even remember the title of, even the fans wouldn't have saved it. Scotty has signed on with Carries manager so they are going to try to get him along her path, and given the right material, this Fall alot of people could be surprised as they were with Carrie's origonal music. He won't sell 7 million, nobody does these days, but Platinum isn't too far of a stretch. Double if its really good! The Josh song I feel is just too slow. I mean its a slow, slow song, kinda how George Strait's last single was. Alot of radio listeners like music they can drive to, you can only drive to that song in rush hour traffic, lol! Even Josh said in a recent interview it was never intended to be a single when he recorded it.
btw I heard it moved from 22 to 17 on Billboards count today! Thats 2 more up than Mediabase! Thats pretty huge!

Yes, but Carrie's "Inside Your Heaven" was never officially sent to country radio stations like Scotty's song here, so there's a big difference. She debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 and got some minor unsolicited airplay on country stations to chart, but they never pushed the song as a single.
I'd like for Scotty to get some good material. I hope that that's what he and his team are working on. In the meantime, I'd just rather not listen to this song because it's really boring to me.
As for his jump on Billboard, not too bad. I thought Billy Currington would get back ahead of him since Billy outgained Scotty on Mediabase, but I'll bet it was close. And now I'm wondering if Josh Turner went recurrent on Billboard...he was showing only about +10k on Mediabase, and I thought for sure he'd be at #17, just behind the Eli Young Band. I'm in a library right now so I don't have all my numbers to look at but I didn't think Billy or Scotty would catch Josh yet this week. I'm starting to wonder if it's a situation like we had a few weeks ago, where Steel Magnolia gained a very small amount of audience (only 10k) on Mediabase but went recurrent on Billboard due to a small AI loss there. That could've happened with Josh Turner.
Anyway, with Scotty at #17, that probably means that Billy, Rodney, and George all entered the top 20...unless I'm wrong and Josh Turner is still on the chart.

I'd say Scotty had nothing at all to do with Josh's slow climb. IWBAM was released on October 2010, before the American Idol auditions had even aired, lol. I think they will be able to co-exist just fine. Josh Turner's just always had a spotty record with country radio... I wish it wasn't that way, but it is what it is.
I'm quite impressed with how this song is doing. I'd love to see it go all the way to #1, but just a Top 10 peak would be nice enough for a debut artist. I'm certainly not thrilled with this song from a lyrical standpoint, but he's got a great voice so its still listenable for me.

No, I don't mean that this song hurt Josh's current single at all. I never said that. I am a little worried though that down the road, if Scotty becomes a big star, Josh won't be appreciated quite as much because his voice won't be seen as unique. I think Scotty has a good voice, but Josh's is better. I just hope that Universal doesn't push guys like Josh Turner and Easton Corbin aside a bit, and even Randy Montana, to make Scotty their golden boy.
But I agree about Josh's spotty radio record. For some reason he can't ever seem to get more than 2 strong singles from an album. While I do like IWBAM, it wasn't the best choice--it should've been "As Fast As I Could".
Anyway, hopefully both Scotty and Josh can do well, and hopefully both come out with a big lead single this fall or so...

Josh never hurt Trace Adkins when he came on with his deep voice. So I doubt Scotty will hurt Josh. Really when Scotty and Josh sing together you can tell Josh's is still a couple octives deeper. Same with Chris Young, very deep voice. Country has plenty of room for all the deep voices who sing good music.
Question...now that Scotty is #17 on BB this week, is this the highest chart position a for a solo teenage male singer on the Country chart ever? I can't think of another 17 y/o guy to have a top 20 hit. So did he break a new record by doing that?
I know when the Wilkinsons had "26 Cent" out in 1998 the son in that group was maybe 14 or 15, so he may hold the record as the first male when the song went top 5. But for solo I think its Scotty, correct me if I'm wrong tho.

^ Well LeAnn Rimes started out young at 13 and had a #1 hit...
And according to One Way Ticket's Wikipedia page, she was the fourth teen to reach #1 on country.
So, I'm gonna say that Scotty's the first in awhile probably, but nothing that has never been done before.

Thats what I was thought too. I didn't know Billy made it that high! Leann started at 13 but shes not a guy...I think LOL j/k!
If we're talking girls theres several...Brenda Lee, Tanya Tucker, Taylor Swift, Lila McCann, and maybe a couple others.
Unless it was a singer WAY back in the day, I can't think of any male under 18 to make it into the teens on the chart as a solo act.

Sorry I did a lot of editing to my post after I wrote it, but LeAnn Rimes was apparently the fourth teen country act to hit #1, so unless the other 3 were women, I'd say that Scotty is prob. not the first.

I guess Scotty does break the record of being the youngest solo male to make it past #20 on the Country Singles chart. Tyler Wilkinson of the Wilkinsons made it to #2 or 3 I think with "26 Cent" back in 1998 with his family group.
