Actually, a Rebecca Black remix would be awesome. And she'd be the youngest female to hit #1. In my mind, this remix has already happened! haha! I suppose a worse album could have tied Jackson's record; I guess I've made peace with the Katy thing. Rebecca Black needs to go back to the total obscurity that she came from.

Week Ending June 22, 2011. Bad Teenage Dreams Posted Wed Jun 22, 2011 6:07pm PDT by Paul Grein in Chart Watch Share retweet Michael Jackson may soon have to share one of his most cherished chart records. Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" vaults from #31 to #4 in its fourth week on the Hot 100. It suddenly has a real shot at becoming the fifth #1 hit from Perry's Teenage Dream album. Jackson's 1987 blockbuster Bad is the only album in history to spawn five #1 hits. That album locked up its fifth #1, "Dirty Diana," in July 1988, when Perry was three..
"Last Friday Night" surges in the wake of the release of the song's video, which is a sweet-natured homage to ‘80s pop culture. The song vaults from #28 to #1 on this week's Hot Digital Songs chart (which is a key component of the Hot 100, along with radio airplay). The song sold 235K copies this week, which constitutes a 259% increase over last week. It's the fifth song from Teenage Dream to top the digital sales list..
The five #1 singles from Bad, for benefit of my younger readers, were: "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," "Bad," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Man In The Mirror" and "Dirty Diana." The creative peaks were clearly the third and fourth singles in this sequence, which were the two songs that Jackson performed live on the Grammys on March 2, 1988..
Bad and Teenage Dream both received Grammy nominations for Album of the Year, but both lost to critically-hailed rock albums. Jackson lost to U2's The Joshua Tree; Perry to Arcade Fire's The Suburbs..
Perry's previous hit, "E.T." (featuring Kanye West), tops the 4 million mark in digital sales this week. It's her fifth song to reach that plateau. No other artist has taken five songs (or even four songs) to the 4 million mark. Perry's closest competitors are Lady Gaga and Rihanna, both of whom have had three 4 million-sellers..
What's more, Perry has been in the lead position on all five of her hits: "Hot N Cold" (4,915,000), "California Gurls" (with Snoop Dogg, 4,879,000), "Firework" (4,531,000) and "I Kissed A Girl" (4,067,000)..
"E.T." is the second 4-million seller for West. His 2007 smash "Stronger" has sold 4,402,000 copies..
It's a mark of how dominant Jackson was in the 1980s that he's still the one to equal in many respects..
Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" logs its seventh week at #1. It's the first song to spend seven weeks on top since "Love The Way You Lie" by Eminem featuring Rihanna last summer. It's the first song by a female solo artist to stay on top this long since Ke$ha's "TiK ToK" had nine weeks on top in January and February 2010. It's the first song by a British artist to stay on top this long since Elton John's "Candle In The Wind 1997" had 14 weeks on top in 1997-'98..
Lady Gaga's "The Edge Of Glory" holds at #6 in its sixth week on the chart. (The song has climbed as high as #3.) The song features a sax solo by Clarence Clemons, who died last week. Clemons also played on Aretha Franklin's sizzling "Freeway Of Love," a #3 smash in August 1985. He and Jackson Browne had a top 20 hit in January 1986 with "You're A Friend Of Mine." And of course he was featured on numerous hits by Bruce Springsteen. Clemons was the second member of the E Street Band to pass on. Danny Federici died of cancer in April 2008..
Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 songs..
.
1. Adele, "Rolling In The Deep." The song holds at #1 for the seventh straight week in its 24th week on the chart. This is its 12th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #5 (188K)..
2. Pitbull featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer, "Give Me Everything." The song holds at #2 for the fourth week in its 12th week on the chart. This is its seventh week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #3 (200K)..
3. LMFAO featuring Lauren Bennett & GoonRock, "Party Rock Anthem." The song holds at #3 for the second week in its 13th week on the chart. This is its fifth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #2 (209K)..
4. Katy Perry, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)." The song jumps from #31 to #4 in its fourth week on the chart. It's Perry's eighth top 10 hit. Digital sales rank: #1 (235K)..
5. Katy Perry featuring Kanye West, "E.T." The former #1 smash dips from #4 to #5 in its 19th week on the chart. This is its 17th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #11 (116K)..
6. Lady Gaga, "The Edge Of Glory." The song holds at #6 for the second week in its sixth week on the chart. This is its fifth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #6 (151K)..
7. Jason Aldean, "Dirt Road Anthem." The song jumps from #9 to #7 in its 11th week on the chart. This is its second week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #4 (189K)..
8. Nicki Minaj, "Super Bass." The song jumps from #10 to #8 in its eighth week on the chart. This is its second week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #7 (150K)..
9. Bruno Mars, "The Lazy Song." The song drops from #5 to #9 in its 17th week on the chart. This is its ninth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #9 (133K)..
10. Lupe Fiasco, "The Show Goes On." The song rebounds from #11 to #10 in its 25th week on the chart. This is its third week in the top 10..
.
Two songs drop out of the top 10 this week after long runs. The Black Eyed Peas' "Just Can't Get Enough" drops from #8 to #11. "One The Floor" by Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull drops from #7 to #12..
Jason Derulo's "Don't Wanna Go Home" jumps from #18 to #14 in its fifth week..
"Lighters" by Bad Meets Evil featuring Bruno Mars debuts at #16. Eminem's decision to bring in Bruno Mars on this record echoes his decision last year to reach out to Rihanna for "Love The Way You Lie." Both singers are constant pop radio presences. This would be Mars' third trip to the top 10 as a featured artist, following his star-making collabos with B.o.B and Travie McCoy. Digital sales rank: #8 (132K)..
"Tonight Tonight" by Hot Chelle Rae jumps from #22 to #20 in its 10th week...."Who Says" by Selena Gomez & the Scene jumps from #27 to #22 in its 14th week. This is the highest ranking to date for the song, which delivers the self-esteem boost of Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" but with a peppy beat to match..
"Remind Me" by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood jumps from #59 to #32 in its second week. This seems certain to become Paisley's highest-charting hit on the Hot 100, topping "He Didn't Have To Be," which peaked at #25. It's already his highest-charting collaboration, topping pairings with Alabama, Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss and Keith Urban. .
The Band Perry's "If I Die Young" jumps from #46 to #36 in its 30th week. A pop radio remix is giving the song a second life. It peaked at #19 originally..
Coldplay's "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" drops from #14 to #52 in its third week. (The title suddenly seems apt.) But I have good news for Coldplay, too. See below..
Four more songs by contestants on NBC's The Voice enter this week's Hot 100, joining Dia Frampton's version of Kanye West's "Heartless," which jumps from #78 to #57 in its second week. The new entries are Javier Colon's version of Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" at #64, Vicci Martinez's remake of Dolly Parton's "Jolene" at #76, Casey Weston's version of KT Tunstall's "Black Horse & The Cherry Tree" at #90 and Xenia's version of "Price Tag" by Jessie J. featuring B.o.B at #99. Like American Idol and Glee before it, The Voice is making its mark on the charts..
Shania Twain's "Today Is Your Day" debuts at #66. It's her first Hot 100 hit since "Party For Two" seven years ago. "Today Is Your Day" contains the kind of peppy philosophy you would expect from someone who titled her fourth album Up!.
"Rain Over Me" by Pitbull featuring Marc Anthony debuts at #75. These are two of the biggest pop stars of Latin heritage, but both were born in the U.S. Pitbull was born in Miami (of Cuban parents). Anthony was born in the Bronx. Anthony made the top 10 with "I Need To Know" and "You Sang To Me" in 1999-2000..
"Stereo Hearts" by Gym Class Heroes featuring Adam Levine debuts at #85. The band's biggest hit, "Cupid's Chokehold," also featured the lead singer of a rival band: Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. It's a tribute to Levine's star-power that the credit doesn't mention Maroon 5. The credit for "Cupid's Chokehold" actually read: "featuring Patrick Stump (of Fall Out Boy).".
Britney Spears' "I Wanna Go" re-enters the chart at #89..
Joe Jonas' "See No More" debuts at #92. Jonas landed two top 10 hits with Jonas Brothers, "Burnin' Up" and "Tonight.".
Paramore's "Monster" drops from #36 to #100 in its second week. The song is from the upcoming movie Transformers: Dark Of The Moon. (It will probably have a resurgence after the movie opens.) .
Example's "Changed The Way You Kiss Me" is #1 in the U.K. for the second straight week. It's nowhere to be found on the Hot 100 for the second week..
. Coldplay's rousing 2008 smash "Viva La Vida" tops the 5 million mark in digital sales this week. It's the second song by a British act to reach this milestone. Taio Cruz's "Dynamite" hit the mark three weeks ago..
Gnarls Barkley's 2006 smash "Crazy" tops the 3 million mark in digital sales this week. The song set the stage for Cee Lo Green's rafter-raising "F**k You (Forget You)," which has sold 4,820,000 copies. Black Eyed Peas principals Fergie and will.i.am have also topped the 3 million mark with both group and solo endeavors..
"I Need A Doctor" by Dr. Dre featuring Eminem and Skylar Gray tops the 2 million mark in digital sales. It's Dr. Dre's first song to reach this threshold. Keep in mind that most of Dre's biggest hits, including "Nuthin' But A "G" Thang" and "Dre Day" (both with Snoop Dogg), were released well before the digital era. 2Pac's 1996 smash "California Love," on which Dre was featured (along with Roger Troutman), has sold 1,300,000 copies. The good doctor is very close to landing a second 2 million-seller. "Crack A Bottle," his chart-topping 2009 collabo with Eminem and 50 Cent, has sold 1,992,000 copies..
Lupe Fiasco's "The Show Goes On" tops the 2 million mark in digital sales this week. It's his first song to reach this level. His equally well-crafted 2008 hit "Superstar" (featuring Matthew Santos) has sold 1,449,000 copies.. .

The thing is, since Taylor's countdown songs were non-singles, they shot to iTunes #1 quickly but weren't really able to be weeklong digital #1's.
I wonder if any of this week's Voice contestants will go T40 next week.
Also, with Tonight Tonight in the T20, Glee's Chord Overstreet hasn't hit the T20 on H100, but his brother has. The second season's 6 were Gwyneth, Gwyneth, Blaine, Rachel, Will, and Finnchel, with none of their songs including a Sam solo line.
I'm kinda rooting for Party Rock Anthem #1.

It would have to be in the BDS/SoundScan era, as that's when chart longevities started being a lot longer than previous years. Pre-Soundscan: .716 90/04/21-90/05/12[ 4]NOTHING COMPARES 2 U _ Sinead O'Connor .717 90/05/19-90/06/02[ 3]VOGUE _ Madonna .718 90/06/09.........[ 1]HOLD ON _ Wilson Phillips .719 90/06/16-90/06/23[ 2]IT MUST HAVE BEEN LOVE _ Roxette Roxette is a group and there are vocls by Per Gessel in the song too...so tehincally it doesnt count as a female song.

The other examples also featured men. I think you'd have to caveat any of these lists as "female driven."

As noted in the difference between Mediabase and BDs for "Give Me Everything" for the 6/25 chart, Pitbull's BDs tota lwas only some 3m higher than the Mediabase Quick-Cut total. So much for the Latin stations making much of a difference there (it debuted on the 5/7 Latin Songs chart; we saw more of a difference with "On the Floor," though (in turn, I believe that didn't hit No. 1 on Latin Songs until it had peaked overall).

There was a 33 week reign of female led singles atop the Hot 100 in 1995-1996 ("Fantasy," "Exhale," "One Sweet Day," "Because You Loved Me," "Always Be My Baby"). I believe that's the longest. Thanks, Hm, if GMET gets blocked for another week by Adele, and then LFN takes over for 4-5 weeks, then we'd be at ~25. I wonder if Katy could stay at #1 long enough for Kelly Clarksons lead single to catch up in August. With LFN already reaching Top 5, E.T. Spending 15 weeks , and Firework spending 13 weeks in the Top 5 I wonder if she can spend 80% of the Billboard year (42 weeks) in the Top 5? That would be crazy! at the max though i think kellys single will only be number one for a week.

According to the Billboard site, Mumford is at both 84 and 91 with The Cave. What gives?

When you know as much about 50 years of charted hits as Paul Grein, Then maybe you can roll your eyes.

Didn't the lead single from her last album shoot from 98 to 1 when it was released to itunes?

^Which made it her second #1 single ever.
Not sure how someone who has had 2 #1s over nearly ten years is at all considered a lock for another #1. It's certainly possible but hardly something to count on. (I do love Kelly C, but it's odd to think she's somehow guaranteed a #1.)

I mentioned Kelly because I can't think of any other female releasing soon that could take the #1 from Katy.

I see why Kelly would be mentioned (keep the female-at-#1 streak going) but #1 for her is not a guarantee. Even if her first full week is strong she'd have to override other songs that will be having strong sales AND strong airplay at the same time. If there is an ET or RITD-like chart ruler at the time then #1 is almost completely out of the question. That said, I think a top 10 or even top 5 debut is fairly possible, and if the song gets a good response from radio and the public she'll probably stay in the top ten up to the album's release date (as MLWSWY did).
I'm thinking PRA and/or GME will be #1 next week and the week after so it's kind of a moot point, I guess.

How much time was there between the radio premiere and the iTunes release? There was at least a week. Back then there were often delays between the two. Now they almost always happen simultaneously.

For MLWSWY, you mean? Yeah, there were a few days in between. According to wiki, the song debuted on Z100 on January 13 (though the official adds date was the 19th), went to Amazon's mp3 store on the 16th, and went to iTunes on the 20th. These days I guess labels fear that a week on radio but not on iTunes will cost them sales. I don't necessarily think that's the case.
