The creator of the old thread is no longer a member, so the thread title can't be edited when the album title is dropped, figured I'd just start a new one. ;) ASHANTI SUPPORTS LL COOL J’S WIFE AT JEWELRY SHOW, TALKS NEW ALBUMAshanti added some shiny accessories to her closet while shopping for jewelry at the Simone I. Smith Jewelry trunk show in support of LL Cool J’s wife at Shag in New York City. The R&B songstress recently chatted with Us Weekly about her upcoming fifth album. “Single is coming out way sooner than you think,” she said of the undisclosed song, adding that it is not a ballad. She also shared two track titles from the project, “Paradise” and “She Can’t,” saying the new body of work was inspired by her time in Los Angeles and real-life experiences. www.rap-up.com/2011/06/17/ashanti-supports-ll-cool-js-wife-at-jewelry-show-talks-new-album/Keep in mind, she is now on Dr. Dre's label. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Seems like short notice, though I haven't really followed Ashanti much of late.

One thing I never understood about her situation with Irv Gotti/Murder Inc was whether she was restricted from even writing for other artists. It seems like her career just came to a standstill. She usually has 3 or 4 songs that I love on each album so I'm cautiously optimistic about her return.

If Ashanti was ever going to have another successful era, this is the perfect time. Good that she's on a soundtrack and getting back out there before putting out her first single

Her vocals seem to have vastly improved. They don't sound nearly as thin as usual.

Not the comeback song I was hoping for, but still looking forward her new album.

She needs a motivation type banger to reintroduce herself to the masses.

everything was right about Ashanti during the Murder Inc days...She shouldn't be this big of a flop today.

The 3 and 4 year hiatuses after flops is what wiped her out more than anything. I always tell people, artists should never ride out a flop era with a long stretch b/w albums. Keep throwing out fresh music a la Chris Brown, even if it's on mixtapes, and something will eventually stick. Stay on your grind.

She sounds good on this song. She's gonna need a gigantic hit in order to do well. I hope she gets it. Also, she's releasing her music on her own label so she'll need all of the support she can get.

I want her to do her R&B stuff, but I'm wondering if she should take Rihanna-type sound approach with this next album to get her name back out there?

She had two Top 10 pop hits as a lead artist in her entire career, and the last one was 8 and a half years ago. It would be much smarter for her to continue to cater to Urban (where she had a major hit from her last album) than to risk Urban for a format that's never been particularly loyal to her.

She should stick to Urban music with elements of Pop.

She needs to come back with either a sexy mid-tempo a la Motivation featuring a rapper or a strong ballad to make people take notice again. She really caught people off guard with Foolish as lead when she debuted.

No shade but its not going to happen again for Ashanti. She may get another R&B hit like "The Way I Love You" but the "Foolish" days are looong behind her and its her fault for taking so many years between flop albums. People are so far over Ashanti.

I agree that her POP days are all but over, but she still has the potential to rack up some R&B smashes like Monica. Ashanti's another one a reality show could do wonders for.

She only had one album that didn't perform well, and even that album still sold around 300k. She may be able to score a few pop hits, it just all depends. But she could definitely score some r&b hits and perhaps some rhythmic hits as well if the music is what it's supposed to be.

Aahanti was NEVER on Monica's level and doesn't have her solid core audience so her having that type of comeback is unlikely. Monica also has exceptional vocal talent which is another reason she has been so warmly welcomed and Ashanti certainly doesn't have that either.
