What do grammys have to do with anything? Lots of artists deserve those but some don't have them. Monica is still very relevant and is a major force in the r&b circuit. I'm not saying that Ashanti won't be successful again because her last album didn't do that terrible inspite of what she was dealing with. But Monica as a singer/artist has alot of respect. Monica has been successful for a good period and she still is. Some may gripe about them, but Grammys are a gauge of artist success. If they weren't artists wouldn't continue chasing after them and submitting for them and nominations. Nor would they be attending them. It's still the industry's highest honor. For Monica being a 'major force' in the r&b circuit it's not reflected in her current song's run. No shade, but she hasn't been anything close to a 'major force' since the 90s.

Grammys are critical awards, which is why they are so coveted. They aren't Billboard awards. And let's not forget that Monica did have the #4 and #11 biggest R&B hits last year. In any event, Ashanti announced this morning that the new single is called 'No Good' and will be released soon. Didn't feel like reading through all the fan war to see if that was posted already.

OMG! I can't even believe you people are comparing Monica and Ashanti. They are two different artists with different styles. Comparing Grammys noms and wins is pointless too. Mariah Carey has less grammy's than Whitney and Toni Braxton. Does that mean she is less respected , or had less success? Hell no.

Ashanti got more Grammy nominations because of her being a resident hook hoe for years. Thank God they changed Grammy rules this year, for this exact reason of people getting undeserving wins and nominations. And are you SERIOUSLY saying Monica and Ashanti are EQUALLY respected by their peers? Monica who has been doing this consistently for how long and remains relevant while Ashanti was washed up after 3 or 4 years? LMAO...seriously in what world? Certainly not this one. Really its not worth discussing because there is only 1 or 2 delusional people that thinks Ashanti and Monica are even close to being in the same league and i'll let them have their fantasy. No one would've cared without the hook to the song. The bottom line is Ashanti was writing and singing the hooks on the songs that were popular at the time. She deserved every grammy she earned.

Rihanna doesn't write lyrics though. I just wanted to clear that up. Ashanti went from writing lyrics to background vocalist to hook girl to lead vocalist.

Kelis would be a major fail. Ashanti has the right age, sex appeal and name status combo that could actually make it work. This would be a huge come-up for her and would get her back on POP.

That just seen odd to me if she does it. If BEP was the same BEP when they first came out then I could see it but BEP is so pop that Ashanti will look like a misfit. But if it works for her than ok. Why is Fergie leaving though?

Why would Ashanti be with BEP? That makes no sense at all.

ASHANTI ANNOUNCES NEW RECORD DEALAshanti is taking the independent route with her next album. A day after releasing her Busta Rhymes-assisted single, the R&B diva has officially announced her new record deal. The Grammy-winning singer will release her fifth album, the follow-up to 2008’s The Declaration, through her own label Written Entertainment under a worldwide distribution and label services deal with eOne Music. She was previously signed to The Inc./Universal Motown. The first single from the 2012 release, “The Woman You Love,” features Busta Rhymes and was produced by Jerry “Wonda” Duplessis (The Fugees, Mary J. Blige). It is available now on iTunes. “eOne is proud to have a partnership with Ashanti and her label Written Entertainment,” said Alan Grunblatt, President of eOne Music. “Ashanti truly has the independent entrepreneurial attitude that eOne was built on, and we’re thrilled to be working with her. Ashanti added, “I’m so excited to have my own record label, Written Entertainment. With eOne as my distributor, I feel that their innovative and ambitious approach to the music industry, really gives my label a worldwide presence. They have the top radio people in the business and are hungry to win! The more I learned the business the more I knew this is what I wanted. Ownership is so important. As a business woman this was a great move for me!” www.rap-up.com/2011/12/15/ashanti-announces-new-record-deal

Not here for that mannequin makeup she's got going on.
I should probably wait until hearing a HQ version before passing judgment, but I'll give my initial opinion on the song anyway. I like it a lot - in fact I was surprised at how instant it was for me and I have been playing it on repeat - but there is something about the production...it's lacking that one little thing that makes me think this fits in perfectly with urban music now. I can't quite put my finger on what it is that she could have added though. A little synth on the syncopation? An extra bass drum? Emphasizing the backing chords in the verses more? All of the above?
It feels like classic Ashanti, and that's not at all a bad thing. But Ashanti hasn't been relevant for five to seven years now so it's also not necessarily enough. I hope she does well, regardless.

I can say that I L-O-V-E "The Woman You Love"...the production, the lyrics, the vocals, and Busta, everything is on point for me! I've listened to it four times so far today and I want to hear it more!
