Couple more Celines.
Linda Ronstadt - Dreams to Dream
From An American Tail: Fievel Goes West The song was offered to Celine Dion, who recorded a demo for it. However after hearing the original demo, Linda Ronstadt, who sang the theme from the first movie with James Ingram, decided she wanted the song. Since Celine was not as well known at the time, the song was given to Linda. Linda got to #13 on the AC chart with the song, and it was nominated for a Golden Globe.
Celine Dion - Taking Chances
The song was written with the Pussycat Dolls in mind, however Kara Dioguardi & Dave Stewart decided to keep the song for themselves for their side project Platinum Weird. When the project got shelved, they offered the song to Celine.

The Wanted's "Chasing The Sun" written by British rapper/singer Example originally wrote it for Kylie Minogue.

For the UK fans:
Rachel Stevens - Some Girls
The song was written for Girls Aloud, but Simon Fuller thought the song would be better suited for Geri Halliwell. He ultimately gave the song to Rachel Stevens instead, which upset Geri. The reported incident caused by this inspired the song "Me Plus One" by Annie.

Didn't Celine Dion reject There You'll Be? I'm not sure this is the case. I remember reading somewhere that Diane had submitted a song for Titanic but it wasn't taken. (we got James Horner's My Heart Will Go On). When she submitted her song for Pearl Harbor we got There You'll Be. I always sort of assumed that There You'll Be was the one written for Titanic (the lyrics seem more suited for that movie than Pearl Harbor, but i digress...)

Regina co-wrote her 1986 Top 10 hit "Baby Love." It was first offered to Madonna who turned it down. "Islands in the Stream" was rejected by Diane Ross.

René & Ángela offered "My First Love" to Janet Jackson for her 1982 debut album, among several other songs they offered her (including the Top 10 R&B hit "Young Love" and Top 20 R&B hit "Say You Do"). The label rejected the song. René & Ángela released the song from their own album, Rise, in 1983 and the song went to #12 on the R&B chart. Despite initially missing the Top 10 there, the song has gone on to become an R&B classic and was turned into a #4 R&B hit by Avant and Keke Wyatt in 2000. I'm kind of glad the song was rejected for Janet's debut album. She was 15 when she was recording that album, while René Moore and Ángela Winbush were both in their 20s. Coming from a teenager, the song would have come off as a puppy love ballad, while I think René & Ángela were able to infuse more maturity and depth into it. It's Àngela (not Ángela).

Dunno if this one has been mentioned yet: Milli Vanilli - Blame It On The Rain The song was rejected by The Jets. I had read that Diane Warren wrote that song with someone like Whitney Houston, Taylor Dayne, or even Exposé in mind to record it, but Clive Davis wanted the song for Milli Vanilli and they ended up recording it (well the guys who sang as them for that album).

So did MJB just record that song as a demo? Was it ever offered to her?

So did MJB just record that song as a demo? Was it ever offered to her? According to what it says on Wikipedia, Sia originally recorded it and then somehow Mary J. Blige recorded it and it leaked later on and he didn't want it to.

(we got James Horner's My Heart Will Go On). I mentioned earlier, but Diane did not submit anything for Titanic because James Cameron did not want any "pop music" in the movie. He reluctantly agreed to MHWGO after James Horner (who did the score) worked with Celine and Will Jennings behind his back.

Yeah it would be interesting to hear Titanium with Katy, but Sia's voice just sounds glorious on the song.

I actually think Katy would sound pretty good singing 'Titanium'. I'd like to hear her version.

I actually could see Leona singing "We Found Love" in her "Bleeding Love" vocals. Now Rihanna's vocal style makes sense to me now, she was channeling her inner Leona. Go RiRi! Leona is right, the success of the song wouldn't have been as big if it was her song. I am intrigued in hearing her version though.

Kelly Price's You Should've Told Me was written for Anita Baker; she turned it down immediately.
