The presence of this song probably only helps prolong Despacito's stay at #1
No new challengers

While the No. 1 iTunes ranking probably will be short-lived, I also wonder if streams for "Total Eclipse..." will have taken off today.

kworb.net/pop/Did iTunes or kworb just get hacked, look at the gap between #1 and #2! EDIT: Or is it the eclipse mania doing all of this?

I don't get how you go from "I'm gonna watch the eclipse" to "I need to spend $1.29 on Total Eclipse of the Heart", but hey, it's a good song at least.

What else would you listen to while you watch the eclipse, Michael Jackson? (Ironically one of the small cities in the path of totality actually were playing Billie Jean before the eclipse actually happened)

Will it have another surge in less than 7 years when total crosses from SW to NE in US? Funny how ignorant people are in terms of buying hype. It's only 'once in lifetime' if you're not around in 2024.

Omg I seriously did not expect "Total Eclipse of the Heart" to go #1. it doesn't deserve to either Combined it's 1.3076 over Despacito's combined 0.7238. Wow.

Logically this song, being 34 years old will go away quickly. (Having said that it is currently blowing up on iTunes with a big lead at #1) With people buying and paying attention to this song which has no real chance of returning to #1, that takes away the focus on songs that could potentially go to #1. Again, Total Eclipse of The Heart is turning into a big hit again so what do I know - LOL

Imagine if it dethroned Despacito. That would be amazing because it would prove the point (again and again and again) that you cannot predict the future for songs that have not yet come out, such as See You Again in 2015. This will have next to no radio play and I can't imagine streaming being high so realistically it probably won't even go top 20, but still, it's nice to dream

If TEOTH actually did re-enter at #1 (I'm thinking hypothetically) It would be the highest ever re-entry, AND it'd be the first time in 55 years that a song was at #1 in two separate chart runs. Remember The Twist is the only song to do so, and is currently labeled as Billboard' Greatest Song of All Time.

Will it have another surge in less than 7 years when total crosses from SW to NE in US? Funny how ignorant people are in terms of buying hype. It's only 'once in lifetime' if you're not around in 2024. For many, they won't be around. Not to mention, the totality, the only part that really matters, is only in a specific part of the country. The 2024 one has a different path that this one. The last one in the US was 38 years ago. After 2024, there won't be another one until the 2040s. If you live in California, for example, you won't see either of them very well. The difference between totality and partial is seeing a cookie bite out of the Sun (partial) and seeing a marvelous glowing ring around a dark circle as day turns quickly to night with a huge temperature drop and bugs flipping out. I don't know why so many people here are acting like this is ridiculous. Do we not see songs surge every year from holidays? Sure, during Christmas, that makes sense, but other than "This Is Halloween," none of the Halloween songs actually have anything to do with Halloween. Outside of a few songs, barely any of the 4th of July annuals have anything to do with the holiday. Same can be said for a few Christmas songs too, like "Winter Wonderland." People just love to have music coincide with major events in their lives, and for many, a total solar eclipse is one of those things. I really don't see the need to criticize others for getting into the spirit. Lighten the hell up. But as far as weird occurrences, this has nothing on the UK sending Ding Dong the Witch is Dead to #1 after Margaret Thatcher's death.

But as far as weird occurrences, this has nothing on the UK sending Ding Dong the Witch is Dead to #1 after Margaret Thatcher's death. Yes, I'm well-aware of the difference between totality and partial. Remember, totality was a small zone and with very few exceptions, largely tiny towns (I know my family is near St. Louis so they had chance to see it, while I'm in Denver and we got 92%) but the hype of "ONCE IN A LIFETIME" warranted wall-to-wall TV coverage on the networks and cable and got a lot of people to spend $$$ and travel for fear they'd never see one. I bet if media said 'Yes, 99 years ago, but the next one is less than 7 years away,' it wouldn't have been such a big deal. No matter, I'm just glad that the horribly underrated (in US) Bonnie Tyler got some props. Too bad more people didn't pick up her "Very Best" instead of (logically) the single. At TEOTH isn't some novelty song and, not only was a #1, but also from the Steinman catalog.

There is an "eclipse" lyric in "Feel It Still", people should have also send that to top 10.

"Total Eclipse..." still at No. 1 on iTunes- and it apparently had some 302,000 streams of Spotify yesterday, apparently.
