On 4/30/11, 66% of the 293K sales for S&M were of the remix. On 5/14/11, 68% of the 246K sales for TTWE were of the remix. Also, for what it's worth, on those respective weeks, S&M got up 108% gain in sales and TTWE got up 102%. Thank you! Ok so she can celebrate her sixth number one. All I have to say is, after hearing all the bitching about Mariah manipulating the charts to get her #1s....the shit better hit the fan when LFN goes #1 as well.

Thank you! Ok so she can celebrate her sixth number one. All I have to say is, after hearing all the bitching about Mariah manipulating the charts to get her #1s....the s**t better hit the fan when LFN goes #1 as well. For some reason, Pulse has been overly kind to quickie remixes released just to gouge fans to get a higher peak. Like, I have heard artists SLAMMED for doing PROMO to promote a single and try to get a higher peak-like, it is "cheating" to perform a song live too many times to try to promote it. I have seen artists attacked viciously for pages for even mentioning they have a new single out on twitter because apparently that is "cheating, cheap, and desperate". But, the same people who attack others for those reasons seem to be oddly quiet when it comes to more deliberate and obvious #1 grabs like this. I think it depends on the artist-Katy, Rihanna, Britney are all Gods of Pulse right now and nothing they do can will be criticized. I just better never see anyone shriek about how unfair and "desperate" promo or tweeting about a song is from here on out

I see some sort of rule change in Billboard's future. Not necessarily to address the release of remixes to "manipulate" a song to #1 but to address the phenomenon of changing a song credit after it has been released, then changing it back again.
Just an opinion, just a guess but...I say this to mention they have responded to changes in market trends before with adjustments to their charts and I suspect they will again to respond to this latest trend involving remixes.

^ If Billboard is going to change anything, then the only sensible option is not to combine versions of the same song sung by different artists, whether it is a remix or not. For some reason, Pulse has been overly kind to quickie remixes released just to gouge fans to get a higher peak. You're probably not paying attention enough. People complained and still complain about S&M. As they will about LFN if it hits no. 1. Fans/stans are the ones "overly kind" to the remixes. Mariah fans defend whatever tactics Mariah has used and will use, same for Britney, Rihanna, Katy, Madonna whoever. When it is not their "fave" they easily jump to attacking party.

LFN's AI aren't dropping; the daily gains are just less than they were. The only difference in TTWE was the beginning part, I think, with Nicki Minaj's rap; after that,l it was pretty much the same, just with Ke$ha's vocals tacked on. Remember, though, that "E.T." wasn't an afterthought "remix" with Kanye West; it was released right around the time the track started climbing in airplay. TTWE also had dubstep added in

I'm already picturing Rihanna tweeting 'Cheers' to Katy when she matches MJ.

Imagine if it still managed to peak at just #2 on the Hot 100. What would their next move be? What other tricks could they possibly have up their sleeves after all this? Gimmicky video with tons of cameos, gimmicky nerdy alter ego complete with seperate twitter account, last second remix released to iTunes that maximizes retail week AND is discounted to nearly 50% compared to other singles...what's left? Maybe they could just flat out BUY chart points?
That said, I like the remix.

I think that if halfway through the week they see that PRA is still in the lead they might discount the normal version, remixes, video etc too if they can, but likely if this remix fails it was their last chance.

PRA is not a pulse fave and no one has mentioned being outraged by them using a remix to help their song get to #1. The general public does not care.

Record company really failed here...and hard core! There was no need for this remix since they had three other remixes that worked just as well if they'd just release them to iTunes already and quit holding on to product.

+1. I'm just wondering, since majority of Pulse's faves have used this tactic if there will be anyone left to contest it. That's not true. PRA is not a pulse fave and no one has mentioned being outraged by them using a remix to help their song get to #1. The general public does not care. LMFAO's remix is different than the Katy/Rihanna/Britney remix situations. My point anyway was that label using these slick discount/remix tactics are being used for many of Pulse's faves (Gaga/Rihanna/Britney and now Katy) so I'm saying the margin of people complaining is bound to get smaller. e.g. When Rihanna did it - Britney, Gaga and Katy stans might have complained; when Gaga did it - Britney and Katy stans might have complained; when Britney did then Katy stans might have, and now that Katy has done it...there's no one else having a problem with it. PMB is pretty much a Diva (gay pop) board so the people complaining now must be stans of male artists or something, who are pretty much miniscule when it comes to the PMB community.

Not to defend Britney or anything, but I honestly think it's ridiculous to group TTWE's remix with LFN and S&M. Same goes with ET. As far as I'm concerned, TTWE remix was released when the airplay hasn't peaked and was Jive or Britney for that matter even concerned of scoring a #1? Irregardless, TTWE was going to peak higher than #8 the next week. But kudos to Katy's label for being smart

^^^It was done for the same reasons though. It's just that Jive/Britney's team messed up once again and mishandled the release.

IIRC it was released sometimes around 80-90 AI too, it just got a little RHY boost from Nicki. Either way, the Britney remix is the same as the other 2.

"TTWE"'s remix was done with the intention of getting a higher chart placement mid-chart run. Whether or not they believed it would hit a certain position (#1) is irrelevant. I'm sure it wasn't a thought that didn't cross their mind considering Britney was on the "S&M" remix which did.

People aren't exactly gobbling up the Katy remix are they?
#164 the last time I checked.
