The Hot 100 stopped using small market non BDS stations 3 years ago. Ohhh really? Is there an article on this? I want to know what their logic was.

technically speaking it's a good site in theory but the execution is bad IMO. Yeah, I think the idea of the site is fantastic. But, it's just horribly ran. The charts update much later than they used to, the Launch thing on the side is incredibly annoying, and the historical chart data is messed up. Also don't forget the spam on the comments section. Execution is everything. The launch thing is annoying.

AdJan- like I said, the number of small-market stations that BDS did not monitor was a small amount, anyhow. When Billboard made the big chart change in December 1998, the number of small-market stations stood at just 23. BB also mentioned that prior to December 1998, small-market stations accounted for 10% of a single's total points (which, of course, would differ from track to track)l, but as of December 1998, it was just 5%. Before BB dropped any remaining small-market, non-BDS-monitored stations, I think the count was down to a handful or so.

They dropped the small market stations on Aug 11, 2007 when they added streaming and changed the sales divider. The article appeared in the issue before the change.

The only thing I use Billboard for anymore is to get the Top 10 for previous weeks, but even then it's more useful to just use other sites that have the full Top 100 archived. Which site do you use for the Top 100 archived?

There was an article in the 8/4/07 Billboard (Over the Counter section) announcing that streaming would contribute to the chart starting with 8/11/07, but there was no mention of small-market radio stations- just that the Hot 100 Airplay pnel was expanding by some 250 stations to include all currents-based stations that BDS monitored.

Which site do you use for the Top 100 archived? I use aCharts. It's really handy. Great updates for Maroon 5, Rihanna and Foster the People today. However, the updates overall seem to really have been lacking this past week or so. No 1M+ in the top 20 today. MLJ should bust into the top 20 tomorrow or the following day though, with PUK and Cheers following relatively soon.

Glad they are discounting. As I said in another section, LFN has been #1 on all other key components charts, so what if Capitol does whatever it can to get to H100 #1? It's been done for Destiny's Child/Beyonce, RiRi and MiMi - except for us chart freaks, nobody cares.

Yeah the goal should be to get the #1 single keep it there for as long as possible and then move on. Sell as much as you can as fast as you can.

But the airplay tracking hasn't ended yet. So even the insiders don't know the final result yet. I bet her label just thinks it didn't make it because of digital sales which would explain the discount. They're probably thinking correctly, though. It's close, but I think LMFAO will still take it.

^The label probably already have the digital sales figures sent to them. Maybe it was lower than what they had anticipated? So they decided to lower the price this week to get more action.

If PRA holds on this week and next, it's the longest #1 of the year. I would never have seen that coming when it first hit #1.

Looks like MLJ is starting to make some good audience gains. By next week it should be around 60m AI. I also think Katy's airplay is going to start to "tumble" this week, while PRA looks to be staying a decent decline.

I think with this new discount Katy has a shot at #1. The airplay difference should still get a tiny bit bigger, and the remix hasn't tumbled yet, it still has a pop bar of about 0.1000.

Yes, it will lose a bit more at pop, but it still has a decent bullet at both rhythmic and Hot AC. It will max out at both very soon, but probably not for another week. Also I'm very curious to see what M5 sell this week... definite contender for #1 very soon.

LMFAO should discount their track as well just to block this chick. That's what Destiny's Child did with Bootylicious in 2000 to Mariah Carey's Loverboy. Adjusted release date and pricing to block her. Honestly, labels that focus on chart peaks instead of overall long-term performance are short-sighted. It may get them some press but they should be spending their time and money on artist development rather than chart gimmicks.

Adonis, HolidayGuy, Sorry I was wrong:
I knew it happened during one of the 'recent' overhauls of the big chart: They did away with non monitored smaller market stations during the week of the big digital sales revision of the Hot 100 on 2/12/05. It is described in the "Singles Minded" column, but no reason is given; Presumably as HG stated, at that point - after 13 years - the information was too minuscule to be of any impact.

So is all of Capitol's frantically desperate chart manipulation. Pull one or two tricks out of your hat in the hopes it might give your single that extra push it needs, but they are starting to look like idiots with all of these cheap tricks.

Actually that would just be "playing the game" the same way that Rihanna, Britney and now Katy have been doing.
