Lil Wayne just hit #1 on iTunes in about 12 hours. Looks like he could challenge for #1 next week.

Yeah, and people keep talking about Katy, making LMFAO out to be the bad guys. No one once stopped to think that maybe they don't want an interruption at #1. Maybe they want to make sure they have the longest #1 of the year.
Maybe they want a record.

yup next week is a 3 way race between Lil wayne, LFN and MLJ; PRA will probably fall to #3 or #4

Lil Wayne would have to do some over 300k, I don't really think that's likely.

Lil Wayne's sales are always so front loaded. I wonder if Maroon 5 will be back at #1 later this week.

I don't get why it is childish for anyone to do discounts or quickie remixes except for the pop divas. Like, I know this board loves them to death, but it is the same exact thing for a rap artist to discount a song or do a remix as it is for them.
I think Katy should barely get the #1 before slipping a bit faster than previous singles which is expected for a fifth single.

With Capitol discount the original version, LFN is back above PRA.
Current Pop Bars: LFN : 5333 + 736 = 6069 PRA : 5379 + 500? = 5879

Does it matter if Lil Wayne is front loaded? Born This Way shot up to #1 in only 3 less hours, and still managed 500k+ in less than 3 days. Obviously this isn't going to sell that much, but haven't like all the songs that shot up to the top in 12 hours or less sold over 300k? I don't see how we can count him out so easily.

BTW stayed #1 for like 4 weeks though, this probably won't. I would die though if LFN gets above PRA next week, but still stays at #2 because of Lil Wayne debuting at #1.

But it doesn't need 4 weeks. It just needs 1 good one. Lol.

LMFAO should discount their track as well just to block this chick. That's what Destiny's Child Tommy Mottola did with Bootylicious in 2000 to Mariah Carey's Loverboy. Adjusted release date and pricing to block her. What Tommy did at the time was simply out of spite, Bootylicious could have waited a week or two and easily been number one just the same. Unlike Tommy/Mariah LMFAO and Interscope have no personal reason as far as we know to be spiteful to Katy, so I don't see any reason why they would cut their track just to block her. They've been #1 for several weeks now so it's not like they're scrambling for the top spot themselves. They also are really not in contention for longest #1 of the year. At best they will get #1 this week and tie RITD for it, but I don't see PRA having enough power to hang on to #1 next week. With that said, I do agree that Capitol has botched this via late timing on the remix, a half-assed job on the remix, and no promo appearances anywhere to promote it. Katy should have gotten to #1 two or three weeks ago, not struggled this week just to lose by two or three streaming points or something. Even if she did or gets #1 next week it will be because, as someone else worded it, she will "back into" it by virtue of LMFAO simply falling faster in airplay than she is in sales. And that is without any consideration for how well MLJ and She Will sell for the remainder of the week. It just shouldn't have been this hard for her, and it's all the more surprising for me to see Capitol stumble because of how flawlessly they'd handled the era up to this point. A #2 peak for LFN is not a travesty though. It's not like the only options are "she made history!" and "flopped like a dead bird." This era has been great for her, there is no shame in that. Few albums have even achieved four #1 singles so she is still in high company.

Airplay is irrelevant. We were talking about sales.

But it helps to have your song played on the Radio to have sustained sales throughout the week.

Airplay is irrelevant. We were talking about sales. Without airplay Lil Wayne will start falling in two, tree days, Gaga had like +50mil audience in first 3? 4? days so she could stay at the top for much longer.

That wasn't my argument though. I was saying that you can have front loaded sales and still be #1. Let's say GaGa didn't have that massive airplay and was released on Tuesday and shot up at the same rate, and did just as well the first 3 days, but plummeted Friday morning. It still would've sold 500k+, and still would've been #1.

Not Afraid was able to debut at number 1 despite big competition from OMG. Considering nothing sold over 200k last week, and nothing in the top 20 mediabase is making +1 mil gains.. it's certainly possible if Lil Wayne can keep a nice enough lead over the next week.

My point was more arguing "front loaded sales = no number 1". It doesn't matter. All that matters is how loaded those first days were.

Lil Wayne won't hit #1. His sales are always frontloaded and he hits #1 on iTunes fast before dropping down later in the week.

Although "She Will" doesn't have "Born This Way" level first week airplay, it is blowing up at Urban and Rhythmic so it's not like this is some kind of random iTunes release that is getting no airplay. There is a decent amount of airplay factored into the equation. I doubt it's enough to get the song to #1 next week, but it's there.

Right, when exactly was the last time Lil Wayne dropped a song on iTunes and it went to #1 in this quickly? Gonnerhea? 6 ft 7? Nvm, I dont even think those songs rose this fast. The next couple days will determine if this really is a threat though.

Lil Wayne is front loaded and has always been able to sell well out of the gate and then fall off towards the end of the week. However #1 in only 12 hours is impressive.
