Congrats Katy!
That was some chart drama this week!
Not a fan of the strategy but I'm glad Rolling in the Deep is still the longest running #1 for 2011 (of course PRA still has a shot to tie it next week)

Katy did it? That's good, the interns who must have been in charge at Capitol last week will get good reviews after all.

BEST NEWS OF THE WEEK! Unlike the days when MJ was around and ALL singles were essentially surpressed until they were released to radio, this is a remarkable feat. A track that has been available for more than a year, hits #1 on digit chart, #1 on Radio chart. Outstanding.

^What do you mean suppressed? The cassette singles back then cost almost 3 times the digital singles these days and MJ actually sold more than 3 times what Katy sold in albums, which could effect single cassette sales, so I'd say MJ getting his 5th #1 single back in '88 was also impressive.

By repressed he means the release of the Cassette was held back until the Song had gained Radio Traction.

He meant the physical single release was held back until it was big on radio. You can't really do that in today's day and age. But, yes, his #1 is just as impressive as Katy's. He of course held the record up until now. And even now he still holds it, but now he just has Katy with him.

Singles weren't repressed back in 88. Songs usually went to radio and retail at the same time, and songs usually debuted like they do today...in the 60-99 range.

^I think that point is somewhat irrelevant considering the album sold millions and was out for 10 months. Actually each point cancels each other out. Even if the cassette single was repressed, millions of ppl bought the album and had the single and to my knowledge, there weren't any remixes on the cassette that made somewhat of a difference in it's #1 placing that week it hit the top.

No. I think what they are saying is that the cassette single wasn't in stores until the actual song was a commercial release to radio. Then the record label shipped the cassette single to the stores. I doubt when the album was released in August of '87, the record label sent 5 different single titles to retail outlets. That would be ridiculous.lol

Nothing was impressive with this #1, smart? maybe yes /hatemode I agree that cheap tactics were used, and I'm truly supremely disappointed it all worked, but I won't go so far as to say this shouldn't have been number one. It was a strong single in both sales and airplay, and just happened to peak on both at different times.

Congrats to Katy on her flawless era.
It must be even more tastier for her and her team because she was deemed a vapid novelty whose second era would flop becuse it would have to compete with the pop stars of Britney, Gaga and Beyoncé.
Now let the pressed haters roll in despair trying to paint a bad picture of her success.

SW : 10,000 MLJ : 6162 LFN : 350 + 4287 = 4637 PRA : 350 + 3848 = 4198
Lil Wayne appears to have stopped climbing with a 62% lead. If you count the fact that he released on Tuesday, chances of selling 300k+ are slim. Maybe Katy can get a second week because of the discount on the original.
