Thanks, grouper. There must be some kind of price-slashing boosting some albums (i.e. Let's Talk About Love, Daydream). Best Buy has a $4.99 album promotion going on right now. The albums are in a big bin. I refused to go digging through a bin. Walmart does that and it's trashy.

Actually, Push, Evita IS credited to Madonna, by Billboard, RIAA and Record Research. When it charted, her name didn't appear on the chart, but in retrospect, like other soundtracks where one act dominated (i.e. Saturday Night Fever, The Preacher's Wife, etc.), she is credited. In the SoundScan database, those albums do not appear under those acts, but those sales would be tacked onto those acts' totals.

Ah - I was under the impression that she received no credit by the RIAA. When searching for it in the Soundscan database, the album doesn't show up when searching her name.
Thanks.

^I noticed it was on sale at Target as well. Not that it would be selling thousands but The Singles Collection probably put a bit of a hamper on its catalog sales

Anyone know what the biggest drop inside the top 200 might be?
Slow Grind - Various Artists was #9 last week and this week is #172 on Top Current Albums and completely off the BB 200.
A 163 spot drop on TCA
and off the chart from #9 on BB200 is getting up there

I'm surprised Madonna doesn't have any albums on the Catalog chart...thought Immaculate Collection was brought back to life?

Aside from Immaculate Collection (last appearance in the top 50 was 2008), Madonna has never really had albums on that chart.
Catalog history:
Immaculate Collection (281 charted weeks, peak at #8 in 2001) Ray Of Light (1 chart week in 2000, peak at #50)

I'm surprised Madonna doesn't have any albums on the Catalog chart...thought Immaculate Collection was brought back to life? TIC is back in print but obviously WB isn't going to press nearly as many copies of it as they do Celebration, the newer compilation. Celebration has decimated TIC's catalog sales, and now they're pulling from each other for sales from casual record buyers looking for her hits. There's also the 3x Platinum STR and Platinum GHV2 eating away at TIC and Celebration a little bit as well.

Yes- The Immaculate Collection enjoyed quite a run in the catalog chart top 50- it no doubt impacted catalog sales of the four studio albums that came before it. It logged 141 weeks on the Billboard 200 and then racked up 281 weeks inside the top 50 from 1995-2008. It's one of the longest-running female albums, in terms of combined weeks on the BB 200 and catalog top 50.
A brief history: 1995 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 36
1996 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 41
1997 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 5
1998 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 26
1999 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 38
2000 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 36
2001 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 25
2002 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 38
2003 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 27
2004 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 6
2005 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 1
2006 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 0
2007 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 0
2008 Total Weeks Spent in Top 50: 2

However, only 2 80s era albums would have made it to the catalog cart had there ben one: "Like a Virgin" lasted 108 weeks and would have spent at least a few weeks on the catalog chart "Madonna" lasted 168 weeks The others would not have impacted the catalog chart at all

^That is true. Aside from its time in the top 50, Immaculate also has spent a lot of time on the non-Billboard-published SoundScan top 200 catalog albums chart. I imagine its most recent top 200 appearance may have been the week in which it returned to iTunes earlier this year. WB put it on hold for retailers to order once Celebration was released (and it was taken off iTunes, as well), and I imagine it's now available for order on a wide scale. It will be interesting to see if Immaculate returns to the catalog chart when new material hits- that's more likely than Celebration getting a big boost, I'd think- unless WB prices the latter album reasonably.

So back to the original point, I am not surprised that Madonna is not on this weeks catalog, with only really one exception (or two I guess), Madonna albums have not been big catalog sellers ever.

^Not surprised, either- and that's because Immaculate snared the lion's share of her catalog sales. Few acts see their studio albums continue to sell big after they have a big-selling hits album- Michael Jackson is one exception. Prior to his passing, his handful of big studio albums sold decently (especially after those snazzy reissues), but prior to his passing, MJ never had a compilation sell like Immaculate, either.
As with some other acts, we may see one of the compilations return to the catalog chart when she has new material out.
