Things seem quiet and calm on radio. What song is gonna be next racing to the top? The five that got +1M updates today, basically. I meant Katy Perry like 350-400 daily spin gain and +3M AI gain.

Spears looks on the verge of having her biggest BDS airplay hit, yet the sales don't really correlate with that level of airplay success (both singles and albums sales). Is it just because a good amount of people simply refuse to buy a Britney Spears title? We may see somewhat of a boost if the track features on the VMAs, though.
Despite the large losses at pop radio (currently -1,491), "Best Thing I Never Had" isn't plummeting in overall, thanks to strong rhythmic and urban play (where the bullets are +370 and +274, respectively).

I'm not sure I understand this, it was top ten on itunes for like over 6 weeks and is still moving 100k+ a week, there's nothing disappointing about that? Considering all her previous third singles performed weaker than this on the Hot 100 and in sales/airplay, I don't know if there's any validity in blaming it for its airplay success, especially while it's still in the Hot 100 top ten?

If Britney keeps making these gains and miraculously makes it to 120 million she has a chance at going #1 on Hot 100 Airplay. Even if 'Lighters' were to pass her she would make it to #2 which would be huge for her. I guess we will find out in the next 2 weeks!!

Life, I meant when compared to other acts whose big airplay singles see larger overall sales than Spears'. I didn't say it was disappointing, just that the sales do not receive the kind of boost from major pop radio play that some other acts may receive. But, that may have more to do with what I had said in another post, about her being limited in the ability to attract new/different consumers- if that makes sense. :)

Surely ALL artists have a target audience and also a certain group of people that just won't buy their album/songs regardless. But yes, she might not have Katy Perry-level sales (4 million with nearly every single) but then Britney's commercial peak was in 2000 when she was selling 10 million+ albums with both her debut and its follow-up. So the fact that "I Wanna Go" went top ten at all, eleven years later, is enough for me. Like you said before it came out too, it went beyond your expectations as well, as you only predicted it to do as well as "If U Seek Amy". And like I said, it's still in the middle of its run, I wouldn't be surprised if when said and done it shifted 2 million which would be a very decent result.

Definitely nothing disappointing about IWG's performance- her first album to yield three top 10 hits on the Hot 100. About the "refuse-to-buy" comment- I agree that each act will have people that won't buy their product. It's somewhat intriguing, though, that the power airplay has not resulted in a big boost for album and singles sales. Even with album sales in the state they're in, I would have thought Femme Fatale would be performing better, with hall the airplay exposure/success.

It's just like when Katy goes to #1 with a song and her "lack of sales" gets brought up. It's expected, Either way, you are right. It's amazing that 13 years into her career that she is getting traction on radio especially considering that she is more of a video artist than a radio staple. It would be great if she can manage 2 million before years' end. I'm okay with decent/okay sales at this point...I just really want her adding to her already impressive record sales (single/album). If she doesn't score a 4/5 million single seller, it will be okay. I don't see I wanna go getting past 110...I think it will peak before then but I hope I am wrong.

Although there are countless examples of radio staples not being strong sellers and vice versa, I would still hope for a better performance but given the Circus era and lack of promo throughout the era...I'm not too surprised that it will just be videos and tour and minor "interviews" here and there. At least that VMA tribute will be a much added boost of exposure and promo. I wonder if they could pull that for next year's Billboard awards...one last boost before the era completely ends.

I find it very weird that I Wanna Go is huge hit in the US and has pretty much average going everywhere else. It also was an infamous disaster in the UK.

^ Her newer songs haven't clicked with the crowds in Europe e.g. when look at her singles' performance in Germany where she used to hit the top ten with her opening single at least.

falkos- Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan, among others, were geniuses and deserved more than ZERO No. 1s on the Hot 100- same for Bruce Springsteen and James Brown. And Aretha Franklin- one of the most revered acts of all time- deserved more than two Hot 100 No. 1s. So, Lil Wayne is pretty fortunate to have No. 1s at all. :)
As for Spears in the UK (and Europe)- you'd think the singles would fare better than they have- dance usually fares decently in that part of the world, doesn't it?

As for Spears in the UK (and Europe)- you'd think the singles would fare better than they have- dance usually fares decently in that part of the world, doesn't it? "I Wanna Go" peaked at #6 in France and is still in the top 10 there... so it's not a complete flop in Europe like some of you are gloating... make a little birdhouse in your soul. :)

I don't think anyone was really trying to push the flop idea forward, but if I'm correct it hasn't even charted in the UK yet so there is much validity in the "under-performing in Europe" idea despite any exceptional performance in France (and I'm not sure if its performance has been exceptional since peak =/= success in some occassions). Great gain for You and I today!
