This song reminds me of a song Janet would do. This song is absolutely AMAZING. The guitar riffs, the vocals, the lyrics. She's clearly talking about Damon Dash and her aggression easily came out in this song. When I first got the album I KNEW this would make an amazing single. Aaliyah was truly in her own lane and FAR ahead of her time.

This was one of my favorites on the album. She pulled off the rock/R&B sound very convincingly with both this and "I Can Be". I would have liked to see her record more songs with this type of sound had she lived.

One of my favorites. I remember the critics praising Aaliyah saying that this is the album Janet wished she had made. I remember her saying that she was supposed to get in the studio with Trent Razor for the album but they couldn't fit the time in their schedules.
I keep forgetting that she recorded the album in Australia while shooting "Queen if the Damned".
I always felt they could have used this song on the soundtrack. Actually i think the session with Trent Razor was supposed to be for the soundtrack, and not her album.
I don't think this would have worked as a single but i think "I Can Be" would have done really well at Pop radio if it were released as the follow-up to "More than a Woman"

Totally agree that she pulled off the Rock/R&B flawlessly. I Can Be would've been a great pop single.

I hated this one when I first discovered the album, but I grew to love it, and it's now one of my favorites. I still find the guitar feedback at the beginning to be a bit grating, but everything else works. She truly sounds pissed off here.

She said her and Rashad used to listen to that album on rotation and the video was one of her favorites of all time. Damn I miss her spirit.

I like this well enough as a standalone Aaliyah track but in the context of the whole album, it's one of my least favorites. That says more about the quality of her self titled album than the song itself though.

I thought the production was a bit too big for her voice, but she pulled it off well enough. Definitely one of my favorites on that album.
