I don't get it also.. Lol
I like Scotty . Just watched him sing this and that old King James on the Opry. Old King James isn't perfect , but way better than the first two singles.
Nashville is trying to capitalize on Scotty McCreery "The High School Romeo" and it simply makes him look stupid. It would be different if the label could have gotten a song like Blaine Larsen had when he first started, but with that said ..we can all see where Blaine is now!

True . What I meant by that is they should be getting something deeper and not watered down like the first two singles.

Actually Blaine's first single charted single was "In My High School" which is obviously more along the lines of Scotty's first two singles (only much better). When BNA signed him they chose not to continue with that song and wisely pushed How Do You Get... I still think it's such a shame Blaine didn't work out, his first two albums were really great.

I was really hoping Scotty would sing "How Do You Get that Lonely" on Idol! That'd been really good! It is a shame Blaine didn't make it, as he was in Hunter and Scotty's age range when he put out his albums and both were very good.
I enjoyed hearing Scotty sing TTWG with no symphony track, just the Opry band. I don't think its a bad song, its just that overproduction takes away the raw music. "Old King James" was is a great song and it could be a "3 Wooden Crosses" type hit if it would be released. But Scotty really needs to start releasing/performing his uptempo songs soon, cause those are the best ones on his entire album! His voice really carries those fast paced songs well, thats why "Gone" was his best performance on Idol to begin with. I want to hear him perform "Water Tower Town" "Write My Number..." "You Make That Look Good" "Walk in the Country" etc! Any of those could hit the top 5! btw I don't see anything in his music making him look like a high school romeo. This song nor any of the other songs on CAD are romantic. He has said he did that on purpose, not wanting to sound like hes trying to be older than he is.

He's not being portrayed as a romeo/casanova/heartbreaker exactly, but I do think that maybe they see him as some sort of country teen heartthrob type who can make the fangirls swoon and sway in the audience. With ILYTB, they may have tried to sell it as something more universal by throwing families into the video, but lyrically, it's clearly a love song from the singer to a girl. There are plenty of other songs on CAD about boy-girl situations, but TTWG is the arm-swaying ballad of the bunch and that's the one they picked as single #2. From a musical standpoint it makes little sense, but if the label was looking at it from the POV, which other CAD song seems the most like ILYTB...

I agree, but I think the whole high school romeo thing just doesn't resonate as much with guys. Maybe it CAN work for him, but it doesn't work for me. I look forward to them releasing something else.

Having listened to the whole album, and thoroughly enjoying every track (with the exception of ILYTB which is kinda in 'meh'/tolerable category for me), I have to say that I don't find this release the glaring mistake everyone else does. It would've served him better to perhaps release an uptempo song following his ballad debut, but I think the quality in this song isn't lacking. For me, its a far better ballad than his last, and I particularly enjoy the string arrangement and his vocals sound on-point.

I really have enjoyed hearing TTWG just with his band as Scotty has been singing it on all his promotional TV spots. I have never thought it was a bad song, the strings just sound too "Nashville Sound" era trying to be contemporary. It works to much better stripped down to basics. Scotty looks as he will have some good breaks on the chart, as alot of the songs on Mediabase below him are in the negative and the chart may have a "clean up" period allowing Scotty as well as several of the upper charting songs to make some big moves soon. Of course there are some songs from major artists like Brad, Kenny, and Dierks coming in from behind too. I would not be surprised to see it top 30 within 3 weeks or sooner, its getting nice AI over the last week or so, alot due to promotion and album release.

This kid performs like he is 30 instead of 17/18 and I don't really mean that as a compliment. He does have the voice though so I can definitely see him being the next George Strait. George has always bored me to death too but he has had one amazing career so my opinion of either guy doesn't really matter much. ;)

I don't really like this song; I want to hear "Walk in the Country" or "Better Than That" on the radio!! :) Alot of people don't like it. I'm about as big of fan as it gets and I think it is the worst choice as a single from the album. But I didn't decide that til I heard the whole thing. The record label didn't have to wait like I did, lol, they should have released any of the upbeat songs on his CD cause they all sound like hits. I like all the songs but he really can hit an uptempo song out of the park, thats why "Gone" was regarded as his best Idol performance. The ballad "Clear as Day" however sounds like Single of the Year material IMO. That song is incredible. I'm hoping the next single will be "Water Tower" or "Write My Number" but of course I'd be happy with "Better than That" or "You Make That Look Good." Obviously "Out of Summertime" wouldn't work on the radio this time of year. If "Water Tower Town" had been released in August instead of this it'd be in the top 20 I believe right now cause it sounds like such a cool song for high school football season like "Boys of Fall" was last year. Mercury missed the boat on that one. Who knows, had that been the single instead of TTWG, then the album coulda even sold more than near 200k its first week, but that in itself is incredilble considering it sold near 90k the 2nd! It should be Gold very soon as stores stock for the holidays! Lets just hope the 3rd single isn't another mistake and this current single at least makes the top 20.

I imagine Walk in the Country will be next, due to the CD sticker, but I honestly am not too keen on that song. I'd much rather have Out of Summertime or Write My Number on Your Hand instead.
The ballads sound like the true gems of the album though, which is a shame since it'll be unlikely he'll release more than maybe one more ballad due to the first 2 singles being ballads. Dirty Dishes, Clear As Day, and Back On the Ground though are all quite remarkable. I don't hate this song though; I like it well enough, but ILYTB I can do with out.

I hope WIIC isn't next cause its a cover and I never think its a good idea for a brand new artist to release a cover song as a single. The only thing about "Dirty Dishes" and "Back on the Ground" is that they are mama songs and after Lauren's fiasco with her mama song I don't see either of them being released. "Clear as Day" sounds so much like a classic in the making tho. I hope it'll be the 4th or 5th single. I would love "Write My Number" to be next myself!

I like this song. I can understand why everybody wanted something upbeat, but I hope that this song does well enough. That said, I would really love "Water Tower Town" next.

Keith Urban recorded the song when he was in his Australian band, so next to nobody has even heard the original (myself included), and it would not be detrimental for him to release it in the least. 2) The topic of 'mama songs' didn't sink Lauren; she did alright for a debut female artist... much better than many of her colleagues have been able to do. Its a fact that radio is biased against females, and that's why she didn't receive a ton of airplay right off the bat. And while I personally like LMMD, a lot of people just didn't like it either.

Yeah the female thing is against Lauren, which really stinks. Alot of people didn't like that song like you said. After hearing her CD it makes me wonder what better material they coulda had her record back then. I know its a cover cause I used to blast the song when I was in high school, lol, shows my age. Alot of Djs tho know its a cover and there are quite a few DJs still not willing to give Scotty or Lauren a chance and are looking for any excuse not to play them. That it being a cover is just one of many some may try and use. If it was a single tho it could still do better than TTWG is, which seems not to be going anywhere fast and its AI is way less than it was 2 weeks ago. It may not be dead but this is kinda what happened to Pickler's song before it fell off a cliff. Hopefully its not gonna happen again.
