Not sure where this would go, but Nostalgia seems the most appropriate, since all the songs likely to be discussed would be old, and there's not really another "general music" forum that isn't news, isn't a poll forum, or an opinion forum.
This past weekend's show on American Top 40: The 80s, where Casey played a clip of Eddie Rabbitt's & Juice Newton's version of "Friends and Lovers" got me thinking...what other songs are there that have both a country and a pop version? I know there's these:
John Michael Montgomery's "I Swear" and "I Can Love You Like That", both covered by All-4-One
98 Degrees' "I Do (Cherish You)", covered by Mark Wills
The Tony Rich Project's "Nobody Knows", covered by Kevin Sharp (I used to think it was the other way around)
Any others?

Pretty much every single on Shania's Come On Over album. EDIT: Oh we're talking about remakes "What Hurts The Most" by Rascal Flatts was originally done by Jo O'Meara from S Club 7 a year before. Cascada covered it as well.

Sara Evans covered I Could Not Ask for More and My Heart Can't Tell You No (both pop ballads), and released them as country singles (the former in 2001, the latter this year).

"Life Is A Highway" was first a pop/rock hit by Tom Cochrane in the early 90s and Rascal Flatts covered it a few years ago.
Vertical Horizon's "Best I Ever Had" was later covered by Gary Allan (or vice versa).
"Shameless" was first recorded by Billy Joel and later by Garth Brooks. Garth also did a cover of Kiss' "Hard Luck Woman".

Mark Chestnutt has recorded covers of Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" and Brandy's "Almost Doesn't Count."
Tim McGraw & Faith Hill's signature duet "It's Your Love" was a minor pop hit for She Moves.
And of course who could forget Reba McEntire's version of Because of You with Kelly Clarkson?

LeAnn Rimes and Trisha Yearwood - How Do I Live I'd put an asterisk on this one, because Trisha wouldn't necessarily have recorded it had it not been for Disney rejecting LeAnn's version, which was originally supposed to be used in Con Air. Strangely, the Wiki article for the song says that Disney rejected LeAnn's version because her version didn't have enough of a "pop" feel to it. 69 weeks and one Hot 100 longevity record later... ;)

But, someone told me it was actually a matter of LeAnn's version not sounded mature enough, so that's why they brought it to Trisha Yearwood. Sounds much more believeable.

How can we forget "I Will Always Love You"? It was first a hit for Dolly Parton, and later on for Whitney Houston.
"We Got Tonight" was first done by Bob Seger and later by Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton.

How about "Touch a Hand, Make a Friend" (Pop/R&B hit for the Staple Singers, country hit for the Oak Ridge Boys).

98 Degrees' "I Do (Cherish You)", covered by Mark Wills Mark Wills was the original singer. The 98 Degrees version was the cover (Mark's version came out in 1998). He was also the original singer of What Hurts the Most, but it wasn't a single.

Dolly Parton's covered a number of pop songs in her career, including Stairway to Heaven, The Tracks of My Tears, and [She] Drives Me Crazy.

There's the song "When the Stars Go Blue". According to Wikipedia, it was first recorded by Ryan Adams. The Corrs and Tim McGraw are among some of the acts who have since covered it.

Martina McBride recorded a country version of Train's Marry Me. He also sings it with her as a duet.

I think I've seen a lot of lists like this in Opinion Please if that's a better fit? :) I started it in here because I'm not asking for songs that sound like they have both a pop version and country version, I'm asking for ones that do. A list like this wouldn't be opinion-based, IMO - some of the lists over there do belong there, but others...I don't get why they're in there.

I would mention also - "Islands in the Stream" from Kenny Roggers & Dolly Parton in 1983, later sung by the composers Bee Gees, included in the Number Ones compilation. In addition, the song chorus line was used in "Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are)" by Pras featuring Ol' Dirty Bastard and Mya. - "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers and by LeAnn Rimes (among many others) - "Inside Your Heaven" by Carrie Underwood and by Bo Bice - "You Got It" by Roy Orbison and by Bonnie Raitt - "Make You Feel My Love" by Bob Dylan, by Billy Joel, by Garth Brooks, by Trisha Yearwood, by Adele. - "Hard Luck Woman" by Kiss and by Garth Brooks (although the version was not as country-fied) - "Who Says You Can't Go Home" by Bon Jovi and by Bon Jovi with Jennifer Nettles. - "Born This Way" Pop and Country road versions by Lady Gaga
Also I remember the messy country version of "Irreplacable" at the AMAs by Beyonce and Jennifer Nettles. And as people have mentioned Shania Twain, I think the most obvious remixed version was "That Don't Impress Me Much". I'd also mention Taylor Swift with Pop mixes of her singles (Teardrops on my Guitar, Love Story, You Belong With Me), Lady Antebellum and both versions of "Need You Now" I think Faith Hill's "This Kiss" had a Pop remix version.

Hated Gary Allan's "Best I Ever Had" country cover of Vertical Horizon's original... that song could have stayed away from country.
Daryle Singletary's country version of Savage Garden's "I Knew I Loved You".... seriously it flopped so massively, for good reason. He released it less than a year after SG made it a mega hit. His version was awful.

Carrie Underwood
* Look At Me *You're Lookin' At Country *I Told You So *It Had To Be You * Desperado (Grammy's) *Bless The Broken Road *Praying For Time * Home Sweet Home *I'll Stand By You *Sweet Emotion *Instant Karma
Mark Wills also originally recorded "What Hurts The Most" years before RF made it a hit.
Rascal Flatts covered the Beatles "Revolution" in 2007 for "Evan Almighty"
And, a glaring omission, "Bless The Broken Road" was recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band way before RF sang it.

Hinder / Jack Ingram "Lips of an Angel" - I hated Ingram's version with disdain when it was on the radio. Please tell me I'm not alone on this!

"Bartender Song" by Rehab had a normal version sent out to Alternative, Pop and Hot AC, while the country version featured Hank Williams, Jr.
(side note: I don't know why they didn't just send out the original, it was country Enough)
