Pretty much this goes for the mainstream/pop top 40. What songs do you remember your top 40 station playing, but they failed to crack the top 40?

Jive Jones - Me, Myself & I (yuck) This hit #40 for a week (9/14/01). Speaking of 2001 though, that was definitely the year of Top 40 misses on WIOG. A few that I distinctly remember: Carly Hennessy - I'm Gonna Blow Your Mind (this got a LOT of play) Jennifer Paige - These Days Jelleestone - Money They also played P.O.D.'s "Alive".

Related to this, does anybody remember a radio show called The Cut? It went by a different name in the nineties. It was a radio show relating to new music and played a lot of songs that missed the top 50. I remember hearing: Toni Braxton - Spanish Guitar Limb Bizkit - Rollin' (Bay Area Remix) Among others I can't remember. I seem to be the only person who listened to this show.

This thread seems a bit pointless as every song that missed the top 40 was still played by some stations?

Songs that I remember hearing when living in Houston in '97-'98 include overlaps of the OP: Amber - One More Night (Remix) Anggun - Snow on the Sahara Daft Punk - Around the World Gloria Estefan - Oyé Jocelyn Enriquez - A Little Bit of Ecstasy Jocelyn Enriquez - Do You Miss Me* Le Click - Call Me Sweetbox - Everything's Gonna Be Alright When I lived near the Oklahoma City, etc., markets, I heard others listed there: I'm trying to not include songs I heard on the latter that were played on other programming a la Open House Party or just on new music surveys, but songs that appeared to actually be added by the station. I could try to think & dig deeper in it and add some from those & I wouldn't be as certain of the market here since I don't tune in long even when I do have it on the CHR/pop station. I do know our station is probably the reason why "The Kill" got in the top 40.

This thread seems a bit pointless as every song that missed the top 40 was still played by some stations? I think the intended point was really regarding songs that your station kept playing after they were no longer record label priorities, fell off the Hot 100, etc. They indeed did get airplay somewhere, but if it's not from being leaned on by a label for promotional goodies, stations visits, concerts, etc., then the station would drop it as soon as possible ... unless it was getting decent response from the listeners! I uses to remember these readily, but am forgetting many in my old age, and would need to look at lists of music to rekindle my rememberies, but here's a few: LET ME GO Heaven 17 DANCING IN HEAVEN Q-Feel CANDY GIRL New Edition CHANGE Tears For Fears ATOMIC DOG George Clinton & NASTY GIRL Vanity 6, both I think bubbled under at #101 ANY LOVE Luther Vandross TURN BACK THE CLOCK Johnny Hates Jazz SILENT MORNING Noel FOOLISH HEART Sharon Bryant I LOVE THE BASS Bardeux THE BLUES Tony! No, I'm pretty sure the OP meant songs that your station played that never made the top 40 when they were released.

Oklahoma City's CHR/Pop station played "I Like It" by Sammie (which didn't even make the top 50 on CHR?) a bunch. He did play some radio station concert but still, you'd think instead of missing the chart that it would have gotten in the Top 20 and would have lasted 3 months on the chart based on how it was played.
Oh yeah, they still had "(She's Got) Skillz" by All-4-One on their playlist at least a few years after it was already out.
*I think the intention is that the songs were added/heard at least semi-regularly in rotation at the time. I don't find that pointless; it's what used to make more stations unique and local then.

It was hosted by Sylvia Amarito (sp?). One time she was introducing the Goo Goo Dolls' "Slide", and for some reason called the song "Screw", twice. (I have a weird memory.)

Although this hit top 40 (I think), I think I should still mention it: Mims - Like This (They used to play this 10 times or so a day)

Oklahoma City's CHR/Pop station played "I Like It" by Sammie ... Oh yeah, they still had "(She's Got) Skillz" by All-4-One on their playlist at least a few years after it was already out. And that reminds me of "I Like You" by Phyllis Nelson! And yep, All-4-One was a good one, even the Pop station in Lawton OK (90 minutes SW, 3rd largest city in OK if you don't include OKC and Tulsa suburbs) played it for ages. But that market has a higher percentage of R&B listenership than OKC; this station also faithfully played all four singles from Brandy's first album, and Adina Howard, Soul For Real, and Montell Jordan felt like they were Top 5 Pop smashes. Here's a couple more random ones: THESE TIMES ARE HARD FOR LOVERS John Waite DON'T YOU COME CRYIN' Linear STIMULATION Wa Wa Nee GET TO YOU The Dan Reed Network 20/20 George Benson BASKETBALL Kurtis Blow WISHING ON THE SAME STAR Keedy SHANGRI-LA The Steve Miller Band FREAK-A-ZOID and WET MY WHISTLE Midnight Star JUICY FRUIT Mtume FOR YOU Michael W. Well that takes a big chunk out of the rest of them! But it reminded me of a few more, plus two I thought of earlier today when I heard "The Warrior" on Casey:
