Excellent hold for Tony!
And I have a feeling Scotty will break 200k... just because he's an Idol alum and those teeny boppers are really unpredictable.

And that also ties into the fact that being an Idol alum ≠ good debut sales. As a matter of fact, it was just released today that Lee was dropped from RCA.

*Scotty McCreery (Mercury Nashville/19/Interscope) 170-190k The projection has gone up. Can he go over 200K? I hope he does. Go Scotty! Am happy he's proving the haters (i.e those who said he didn't deserve to win and that he will flop) wrong.

Scotty is Country, they both weren't. Scotty appeals to millions of different people. Country music is known for it's die-hard dedicated fans of which Scotty has many. Also the Idol Kris and Lee won is almost a completely different show from what Scotty won. I just really have a hunch he'll break 200k, which would be awesome!

I mean, Danny Gokey came in third Season 8 and wasn't even a country singer during his Idol season, and even his country album had a 65K opening week. Why wouldn't Scotty move at least twice that? The Kris and Lee comparisons never did make any sense when they're not even in the same genre, and Scotty's path to the Idol win was a lot more dominant than theirs (bigger fanbase = more first-week album buyers).
If Scotty has a 200K opening week, where could his sales be by the end of the holiday season?

i know there has been some talk, including this thread about what Lady Gaga was releasing later this year. On Nov 21 she will be releasing a remix album for Born This Way and on the same day The Monsters Ball will be getting a Blue Ray / DVD release. pitchfork.com/news/44233-the-weeknd-remix-lady-gaga/

Impressive sales for young Scotty! Probably will end up with 175k.
Although Adele will be #1 next week. LOL. I don't believe there are any big-name releases on 10/11?

Evanescence was expected to do 200k I think, but the first single completely bombed so it is not likely they'll do that much.
That's what happens when you wait too much between albums...

Martina McBride, ElevenLauren Alaina, WildflowerJoe Jonas, FastlifeEvanescence, EvanescenceBj?rk, BiophiliaThose are the biggest names. Then there's a Britney Spears remix, a William Shatner release, and a Peter Gabriel release. At this point in time, I say the #1 is a competition between Lauren Alaina and Evanescence as debuts, and Adele as a current-charter.

With Idol contestants (winners+runner-ups) it all depends on what the label does or doesn't do with them. If they give them the shaft, they won't do well. If they don't, they usually do well. Country almost always sells with Idol contestants.
That said, I don't know if you can really compare Lee to Kris, atleast Kris had a semi-radio hit and you know, still wasn't dropped by his label after the reshuffle.
I don't expect much for Lauren. I'm going with just under 80-100K, nothing over.

Evanescence will be #1. They are expecting 175k Was that the projection from before or after their lead single dropped harder than a boulder? I heard that song once, and it wasn't even on the radio, lol. I'm not sure how many people even know if Evanescence is releasing this week (I wasn't aware that their album dropped this week until someone mentioned it to me in a PM a few days ago, in all honesty), because with the lack of promotion they've had lately, I don't see how that projection could be accurate unless I'm living under a rock and missing all of the promotion for them that actually is taking place.

175K would be a stunning number for them considering the last cd didn't do that well, it has been years since that cd, the first single was a beyond big bomb, and I haven't seen any promo at all. Excellent numbers if they hold true!

The last Evanescence album is over 2,000,000 sold total.
Also, long gaps between albums dont effect sales. They don't hurt Tool any.

It is only #8 on itunes in pre-order status, I am sure it will be #1 once it comes out but that kind of indicates it will get a modest reception by the fact it isn't already #1. 100K-200K is reasonable

I think you need to look at the drop in sales from their debut to their second, and how the single is doing at their core formats compared to previous efforts. Interest in them has steadily plummeted.

The last Evanescence album is over 2,000,000 sold total. Also, long gaps between albums dont effect sales. They don't hurt Tool any. ...their last album was released 5 years ago, before the economy really plummeted. Not only that, but their album before that, Fallen, which was released 3 years before The Open Door, sold 7.5 million. They had an enormous drop from album 1 to album 2, and that was just in 3 years with successful lead singles for both albums ( Bring Me To Life and Call Me When You're Sober). With this next album, it's been 5 years since their last effort, their lead single is sitting at the bottom of the trash barrel, and there's been virtually no promotion at all. Long gaps hurt them the first time, and I won't be surprised at all when it kills them this time around.

No, I did not compare them to Tool as far as sales go. What i did say is long gaps don't guarantee failure at all. This album will be lucky to go platinum for Evanescence. But as far as debuting #1...That's going to happen. No doubt in my mind.
Regardless...I see Evanescence live on the 24th this month and then Puscifer on the 19th next month. The new Puscifer album drops on the 18th this month. Also looking forward to that.
Yes, I guess you could call me a Maynard James Keenan stan if you wish. That will be my 3rd time seeing Puscifer. I have seen Tool 5 Times and A Perfect Circle 3 times as well.
This will be my 2nd time seeing Evanescence. I saw them in '06 as well.
I think LPL is probably on the money with that estimate they gave for this album though.

I'd compare Evancescence to Blink 182.. The latter did above my expectations last week so wouldn't rely on Evanescence doing worse than 150k. They might be number one and then drop like a stone.

For some reason I thought he would pass 200K. Seems like a big album-seller to me. Well, maybe he'd stay consistent, but only time will tell. After the past few years you have to wonder how many copies they shipped to begin with. For the Idol tour, they cut back the dates and booked some smaller venues, so they might be cautious in other areas, too. The record for biggest male country debut week is just 90K and Scotty will beat that record handily. Good point. Looking around over the weekend and a lot of places were sold out of Scotty's album. I thought the same thing and wondered if they were conservative on how many they shipped.
